President's Corner
Well boys summer is over and the kids are back in school. Just in time to get some last minute golf in before the daylight saving kicks in. So let’s get out there and play more golf.
The month of September was full with the Partner/Partner event taking place the 17th and 18th. This is always a lot of work and a special thanks to Cliff Aichele for running a smooth tournament.
The Flights Championships are continuing 2 more months so if you are still in it, get a hold of Mike Vaughn, who is the man in charge of this event, for tee times.
October 15 is our Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament. It is a 3 best ball affair and he who has the orange ball must use their score on the hole. It is a little different type of tournament and you really find out if you can handle a little pressure. See Cliff Aichele, our Vice President, if you are interested in playing.
We also have an away trip coming up on October 29th. We are going to downtown Lakewood to play THE WOOD. See Dennis Tramer for more details on available tee times.
Remember the Board of Directors (BOD) elections are coming up in November. If you are interested in running for an elected or appointed BOD position, please let a current BOD member now. We always encourage new ideas and new guys on the Board. It is you guys that make the club great and stronger for the future.
See you all on the links,
Nick Zamora, President
Meeting Minutes
SEPTEMBER 2016 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included salad, chicken fajitas, cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice, tortillas, chips, salsa, dessert and a drink, all for $7. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 75 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Steve Shure, Terry Fulford, Tom Retterath, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Dick Scoville and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. New member John Frixione, a marshal at El Do, introduced himself and got “The Tour” from Terry Fulford.
The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Jerry Leininger led a round of applause for the removal of the big tree on #10, noting that Rich Gilmore might be the Happy-est guy in town (see what I did there?). Jerry also noted that Saturday’s Partner/Partner round is not postable, and Sunday’s round is postable as a Regular score.
Directors’ Reports were as follows:
Special Events Director Matt Huntington announced the events for this month’s tournament. Saturday will be CTP on #9 and #12, and In the Circle on #3 and #17 (just on the green for us C Flight guys). Sunday will be Gross Skins, In-the Middle (net par or better on #4,5,6,13,14,and 15) and Bookends (net par or better on #1,9,10 and 18).
Entertainment Director Dennis Tramer reminded us that the Weekender at Sycuan Resort is on October 1-2. There are 60 people going. The next Away Tournament is October 29 at Lakewood.
Also, the sign-up sheet for Thursday Team Play is posted in the hallway.
Director Mike Moraitis announced the July Golfer of the Month Net winner was Rob Kuehn with a net 64 (more on this spectacular round later), and Gross winner was Jim Fuchs with a 68. The winner of the Nine Hole Tournament was Johnny Jimenez. Next month will be our last Nine Hole Tournament for the year.
Director Rob Kuehn, filling in for Mike (I hate these crutches) Vaughn, announced the Putting Contest winners. Second place points went to Justin Vanderbroek and Scott Chamberlain, while first place points were shared by Scott Davis, Brian Dauk and Corey Smith.
Director Terry Fulford announced the winners of the Senior Tournament. Championship Flight winner was Jim Fuchs, A Flight winner was Rich Dennison, and running away with the B Flight, winning by 9 strokes, was yours truly. My best two rounds in 20 years!
Terry noted that Steve Friend will be playing in the US Senior Amateur Championship in St. Louis this weekend. Terry also announced the Board proposed slate of officers for next year: Nick Zamora for President, Cliff Aichele for VP/Tournament Chairman, Livy for Treasurer, me for Secretary, and Mike Moraitis, Mike Vaughn and Matt Huntington for Directors. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the October meeting.
Tournament Chairman/VP Cliff Aichele noted that Tournament fees will go up to $60 in October. Green fees have gone up again. With several guys pulling out at the last minute, we had lots of foursomes last month. Make sure that your group understands that a commitment to play is a COMMITMENT. Last month three groups got slow play timing penalties, so keep up all day, not just on 16-17-18. Next month is the Orange Ball Tournament, and the order of hitting on your scorecard will be the order you turn in when you sign up.
Director Tom Retterath announced the results of our last of the year derby. Outlasting everyone else was the team of Matt Mendenhall and Jim Ridenour. Good job, guys, and lots of points.
Old Business: There was no Old Business.
New Business: Note that the Renewal Cards will be mailed out on October 1. If you sign up either by card or electronically between October 1 and November 8, the renewal fee is $110. After November 8 it will be $130.
The $50 drawing winner was Jerry Leininger. Jerry collected his check as he handed me “The Letter.” The meeting was adjourned at 7:40.

Director Report
Welcome to the arrival of the Witching season. October weather is almost always nice. Flight Championships have moved to the semi-final stages with all of the September matches having been played. October rounds puts the remaining (16) players head-to-head seeking their opportunity to advance to “Championship Saturday” November 5. As noted in the Conditions of Competition / Rules sent to all participants the match for each month is to be played between the first and last day of that month. It is a much easier tournament to run when exceptions do not need to be made. Your Matches are to be played at your 6 month LI the day of your match. I need to reiterate the recommendation to review the Rules of Golf for Match Play as applications and penalties are different from Stoke Play in a number of situations.
We have tee times for Saturday October 22 at 8:04, 8:12 and 8:20. These times are open for match placement. There are two matches playing Sunday October 30 which leaves no room for rescheduling as Championship Saturday is the next Saturday. If a match sees problems in playing before October 31 you had best figure out how to play it or you will be DQ’ed, no exception. As normal, matches scheduled for those days will be advised to the remaining participants on Wednesday evening of those weeks via email communication. If you want to play your match Saturday October 22 you need to let me know ASAP. Any times not filled will be returned to American Golf on Wednesday evening to avoid us being responsible for unfilled reservations.
Rob Kuehn jumped in and ran the Putting Tournament for me again in September. Report is it was contentious as the 1st and 2nd places were tied. Tying for 2nd place were Justin VanderBroek and Scott Chamberlain. Tying to first were Scott Davis, Brian Dauk and Corey Smith. Mark your iPhone calendars to be at the course meeting night Tuesday October 11 to participate in the last Putting Tournament for 2016 for your chance to take top honors. Rob may spice it up in effort to build a large prize pool. The contest will be under way by around 5:30 on the south green.
I look forward to running the Putting Tournament again next year.

Our final Derby of the year was held on September 13th. All 11 teams were ready and willing to claim bragging rights to winning the last Derby of 2016. First hole there was a 3-team chip off for 1 spot with the Kerry Bryan/Bill Ward team moving on. Hole 2 we had good scores for the 8 teams, 3 pars and 5 bogeys which meant a 5 team chip off for the final spot. Some decent chips were done but ultimately it was the team of Robert Creighton/Scott Chamberlain moving on.
Now to Hole #3. We had 2 balls on the green with Bill Ward hitting a nice shot to about 12 feet above the pin. Team Zamora/Reagan and Creighton/Chamberlain ended up making bogey 4’s. Kerry just missed the 12 footer but they settled for a 3. Jim Ridenour stepped up and made a nice lag putt to about 2½ feet which Matt Mendenhall calmly made for another 3. That left 2 chip offs for 1st and 3rd places. All fairly good chips by all teams but ultimately the day ended with Team Ridenour/Mendenhall in 1st, Bryan/Ward in 2nd, Creighton/Chamberlain in 3rd, and Zamora/Reagan in 4th.
Thanks to all who participated throughout the year. Also, thanks to Rick Crowder for providing the club with the 5:30 tee times for the event each month.
