2017 Newsletters

Happy New Year to everyone and I hope the holidays treated you all well. We have a lot in store this month so pay attention and don’t be late. We start the new year with the annual Thursday/ Saturday Team Play Challenge. The date is Jan. 7 on Saturday. It is a little warmup before the league starts the following week. Come out and see the two teams battle it out before the big push to the championships in March.

January 15th is our first tournament for the year. It is on a Sunday and it is a scramble. See our tournament chairman, Cliff Aichele, to sign up. The first couple months are impacted because of the lack of daylight, so sign up early for a chance to play.

January 29th is our first away trip of the year. It will be to Recreation Park in Long Beach on Sunday . Make contact with Lucero our new Entertainment director. He will be running our away trips this year, so help him out and sign up early.

I look forward to seeing you all on the course and in the tournaments. We have a great club and we have a lot of events so there are no excuses why you can’t play.

DECEMBER 2016 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included some old fashioned comfort food: fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, salad, dessert and a drink, all for $7.

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 135 members in attendance (maybe we should have a raffle every month), including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison, Tom Retterath, Dick Scoville and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

New members present included Mickey Miller, Mark Trentacosta, and Mark Nogawa, who introduced themselves and were given “The Tour” by Past President Terry Fulford. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Matt Huntington announced the GOM winners for November: Omar Diaz with a gross 70, and Mike Collins with a Net 65. Good job men.

Matt then announced the events for this month’s Shotgun Tournament: Net par or better on # 1,3,7,9,10,12,15,and 18; Net par or better on #6,8,16 and 17; Second shot on #5 in the circle (A and B) or on the green (C); and Skins. He must stay up nights thinking this stuff up .We’re going to miss Matt’s creativity in developing Special Events. He also noted that the Triple Turkey last month paid handsomely with only 4 winners.

Director Jerry Leininger urged everyone to renew their membership before December 17 or be dropped from the roster and be required to rejoin the Club after January 1, potentially with a new GHIN # and a new renewal date. Jerry also noted that the Board will post your scores this weekend.

Entertainment Director Dennis Tramer reported that our next Away Tournament is January 29 at Rec Park in Long Beach. It will be a 5-some three best ball tournament. Dennis then introduced our new Entertainment Director, Priscilliano Lucero. Big shoes to fill Lucero, but I’m sure you can handle it.

Director Omar Diaz discussed the USGA announced changes to Rules 18-2, 18-3, and 20-1 regarding accidental movement of the ball on the green. The Club then voted to adopt this Local Rule effective 1/1/17. If you’re not familiar with this change, look it up. It could be a stroke saver. As Saturday Team Play Captain Omar noted that Team Play starts January 14; that he will finalize the team roster very soon; and that the Thursday Saturday Grudge Match will be January 7.

Director Mike Vaughn announced results and passed out trophies for the Flights Championship. Mike also discussed plans for next year’s Quad Club Championship.

Tournament Chairman/VP Cliff Aichele emphatically reminded us that the best way to get a spot in the upcoming tournament is to go to the meeting and put your name in. If it’s a last minute situation, email or call Cliff. Don’t talk to anyone else because they can’t help you out. Cliff’s the Man.

He then discussed the December 7:30 Shotgun Tournament. It’s a Two Best Ball out of Three event, played to your 6 month LI. Show up early to check in or get left behind. Remember – we have the course all day and we’re going to play no matter what the weather is. Cliff reminded us that the January Tournament is Sunday 1/15 with starting times from 6:42 to 11:48. It’s a 5 man scramble.

Director Mike Montgomery announced that raffle tickets would be on sale for 5 minutes after the close of the meeting. Mike noted what a good job Cliff is doing in the thankless job of Tournament Chairman (amen to that), and as spokesman for the Board wished all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Nick announced some changes to the Board make-up due to unforeseen circumstances. Omar resigned as a Director and was appointed to be in charge of Special Events. Mike Vaughn was appointed as Director in charge of the Flights competition and the Quad Club. The four elected officers remain the same. Nick also announced that Tom Retterath was retiring from the Board after many years of hard work on our behalf. Tom received a very well deserved round of applause. Thanks Tommy.

The $50 drawing winner was Rich Gilmore. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45, and the Annual December Huuuuge Give Away Raffle followed. Looked to me like once again Corey Smith scored big.

For once I will not be going into each flight and making fun of all the big winners. I just want to take this time to thank everyone for embracing the small changes I made to the Special Events the last two years and making it fairly easy on me. Let’s be honest this group of morons did not make it easy on me at all, but I was trying to be nice for once, oh well I guess that failed.

My tenure is up and Omar Diaz will be taking over an is gonna do an awesome job as he has much more Club experience from Skylinks, to Hacienda, and The Do!! I will be helping him out along with Dennis Tramer as he has his hands full with being the Team Play Captain.

The Raffle was a lot of fun and I want to give a special thanks to Tom Montgomery for supplying some high quality spirits that we raffled off. There were a lot of winners and a lot of losers, I was once again held to zero raffle prizes but I guess that is the new norm for me.

Once again Thank You to the entire club and I will see you all at the next meeting.

Happy New Year everyone! Are we lucky to live in Southern California or what? The weather we had for the Christmas tournament was perfect. Having to keep the carts on the cart paths due to the rain we had earlier in the week was a little bit of a pain for some of us, but more than worth it. Marc Lilleberg and his crew once again had the course in great shape. Thanks Marc. Rick Crowder and his staff went the extra distance on tournament day setting us up with rang balls, food, hand warmers and Bloody Mary’s. Rick has really done a great job for our club so if you see him around El Dorado be sure and say thanks.

There was a great turn out at 168 players, everyone showed up on time, check in went smooth, and the 3 derby’s finished with just enough light to see the ball. What more could we ask for? We had enough points to payout 9 spots in each flight, that’s almost half the field, way too many teams to name here. Like they always say, the blind draw helps and never hurts, which sure was the case for this tournament. The blind draw teams came in first, second, and tied for 7th. This is why I would like for everyone to work on filling out their teams, let’s make that a goal for 2017.

In a couple weeks we have the Sunday, January 15th Scramble. I still have some spots so if you’re interested in playing please contact me. Please note, that maintaining the pace of play will be critical in this tournament due to the limited daylight. The format is a 5-man scramble; 3 tee shots will be required from each player. We will be using a modified handicap system based on your January 1st index or modified index for those of you on the reduced list. The following is a breakdown of the modified handicap system:
0-3 = 0
4-6= .5
7-9=1
10-12=1.5
13-15=2
16-18=2.5
19-21=3
22-24=3.5
25 and above=4

At the end of the meeting I will be taking sign-ups for the Sunday, February 19th Select Drive tournament.

Hello Gentlemen,

January’s Scramble Tournament was a great success even with all the rain. A big thank you goes to Cliff Aichele, our Tournament Director. His organization was perfect, even though some of our players were throwing knuckle balls and curve balls at him. Good job Cliff. He will be taking signups for the March 26th Tournament and some fill-ins for the Feb.19th Select Drive Tournament at the General meeting on MONDAY FEB. 13TH at 7:00 PM. Remember its Monday this month because of Valentine Day.

Our first away trip of the year to Rec. Park was a smash with our new Director, Lucero, at the helm. Somehow he got 65 people to play The Rec. Good job Mr. Entertainment (Jr.). See Lucero to sign up for the next away trip to Rio Hondo on March 5.

Team Play is in full swing and both the Thursday team and the Saturday team are doing quite well. Come out and support your home team as they make their way into the playoffs. Keep up the good work Capt. Dennis and Capt. Omar.

Other important information to remember is all club members must have competed in 3 club events in the past 12 months in order to qualify to play in our big tournaments. Those tournaments are the Member/Member, the Club Championship’s, and the Christmas Tournament.

We have a lot of events planned this year so keep your eyes open or speak to the directors about anything. That’s what we are here for. We want this club to be the best it can be. So join in on all the fun.

JANUARY 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on a cold and wet Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting Italian night dinner included spaghetti, chicken parmesan, mixed veggies, salad, dessert and a drink, all for $7. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 85 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison, Dick Scoville, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Scramble Tournament: In the circle on #3; CTP on #9 and #17; and hitting Par 3s on your tee shot – 3 out of 4 for A and B Flights, and 2 out of 4 for the C Flight. Omar also noted that the Saturday Team Play guys “got their feet wet” in their match against the Thursday Team Play guys. He was referring to more than just the weather. Not hard to guess which Team won.

Director Jerry Leininger announced the winners of the coveted Most Improved Golfer awards. The 4th Quarter winner was Matt Mendenhall, and the winner for the year was Scott Lindman. Good job men. We’re all trying to get better, and you guys actually did. Jerry also reminded everyone to immediately see the Membership Director (me) if you haven’t renewed your membership for 2017.

Entertainment Director Lucero reported that our first Away Tournament of the year is January 29 at Rec Park in Long Beach. It will be a 5-some three best ball tournament. Cost is $70 plus $5 for skins. The next Away Tournament will be March 5th at Rio Hondo, with sign-ups at the February General meeting.

Director Dennis Tramer announced that we are going to re-introduce the “Little Brown Jug” competition. This will go to the member with the lowest 4 net score total from the Away Tournaments for the year. You must play in a minimum of 4 Away Tournaments (including the Weekender), and you can use your best 4 scores if you play in more than 4 tournaments. A Franklin to the winner. Dennis also noted that the Thursday Team beat the Saturday Team 42-28.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that he is finalizing the roster for the Quad Club Tournament to be held April 22nd.

Director Mike Moraitis announced the December GOM winners: Ed Walters with a Gross 70, and Charlie Kerr with a Net 67. He also briefly but expertly (with significant help from Livy) summarized the recently adopted rule regarding moving of the ball on the putting green. If you have any questions about this, Mike will be glad to explain it to you.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Cliff Aichele gave a shout out to EL Do staff, especially Bing, Marc and Desi (for the discounted Bloody Marys) for helping make the December Shotgun Tournament a success. We had a very good turnout – 168 players. This month is a 5 Man Scramble, requiring you to use at least 3 tee shots from each player. There will be tape on the pins identifying 24” inside of which all putts are good. In response to several long time requests (including mine) the Board decided that for the March Tournament we will have a Blue Tee Tournament and a White Tee Tournament. Your entire group must play from whichever tee you select. Let Cliff know when you sign up.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Nick announced that the February General Meeting will be held on MONDAY FEBRUARY 13, not our regular Tuesday, so you can spend quality time with your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day. Also, Kerry Bryant made a motion from the floor that, given the great job that the Board does during the year, the annual Director’s stipend be increased to $400. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

2017 is off to a good start. Quad Club is set for Saturday May 13. This year we are playing at Lakewood CC. As you know our team rosters are now 25 players. Cost to play will be $50 per player. This money needs to be paid to me in cash or a check payable to Mike Vaughn NLT Friday April 28. The first group starting time will be the Club Pros at 5:55 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with the rest of the groups to follow. The format will be Medal play using the old 3-2-1-0 point system. Speed of play is of utmost importance. Players who scored 3-points at Rec Park in 2016 as well as players who scored well at Skylinks in 2015 and El Dorado in 2013 are my first recruits. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2018 event when it comes back to El Dorado.

When Daylight Saving Time starts the Putting Contest will be held on meeting night during the months of April, May, June, July, August, September and October at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green. All players are welcomed back and new players are encouraged to participate in this fun activity. Format changes monthly.

Looking forward to summertime when the Flight Championships are put together. Those matches will get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signup sheets to be posted NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

Always remain a professional while at or on the golf course, regardless of how you played. Remember to always play to win.

After being pounded by some serious rain, we still managed to kick off our first event of 2017, the Scramble Tournament successfully.

There were lots of familiar names on the leader board like the Omar Diaz and Matt Huntington group, followed by Bret Holloway, Mark Perry and Mike Roddy in A-Flight; no surprises there. In the B-Flight it was team Leininger winning a card off for a gross win against the Jeff Benedetti, Mark Bernardini group. Mike Montgomery with “Who’s your Daddy” Don Marmion, the Followell brothers, and the lovable Dave Hasselman coming in a close second. Group Seabass with his usual gang won C-Flight gross.

Finally, who would’ve guessed it but the new board member Lucero put together a solid group to win the net spot in C-Flight. Finally, the D-Flight winners were Walter Gordon, Terry Cormack, Kevin Adams, and Bryan Knigge. However, despite some great results, there were 3 that were assessed penalties for slow play and it cost one of the team’s points. I realize it was cart paths only and that made it more difficult for some guys, however 31 of the 34 groups that played finished on time. Overall the tournament finished about 25 minutes late causing the final 2 groups to finish with minimal light. Just a reminder that we all need to do what we can to maintain the pace of play.

Coming up this month, on Sunday the 19th, is the Select Drive. This is our last tournament of the silly season. For those of you that haven’t played in this one it’s a “Shamble Format”, so each 5-man team of golfers selects the one best drive among them after teeing off, then all four play their own golf balls from that position into the hole. You can think of a shamble as a scramble off the tee and then regular ol' stroke play into the hole.

Each team will be required to use 3 tee shots from each player. Contact me if you’re interested in playing I still have a few openings.

At our MONDAY the 13th meeting I will be drawing names and taking sign-ups for the March 26th Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz.

Our first away tournament of the year at Rec was a success.
Thank you Dennis Tramer for all of your help; couldn't have done it without you.

It was a beautiful day at Rec and some of the guys came to play a good game. We got Randall Kervin's team taking 1st place with the score of 193,
followed by Matt Williams team with 197. The rest of the results are online on the website for you to view.

Our next trip March 5th, is at Rio Hondo. I will be taking sign ups at this month's meeting Tuesday February 13th. The cost is $90 plus $10 for skins.
Rio Hondo requires full payment 10 days before the tournament.

If you are signing up you are required to come and play or you are responsible for the green fees.

Hello Gentlemen,

Our second home tournament of the year is in the books and even though the conditions with the weather weren’t perfect, THE CLUB PLAYED ON, Rain or Shine. That is a testament to the integrity of our men’s club. I know Rick, our General Manager, appreciated it. Good job men. Even though we had all the mess and every round was over the time limit, all the teams finished the 18th without a penalty (except one). Thanks for trying.

Congratulations to the Saturday Team for making the playoffs once again. Captain Omar Diaz put the whole team in his boat and rowed us to victory. Good luck boys in the playoffs and bring home some gold in your quest of a championship.

The home tournament this month is on the 26th of March. It is The Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz. This is a tournament that we get to play our own ball tee to green. No more help from our fellow partners. You are on your own.

The next away trip is to Rio Hondo. See Lucero, our away trip guy, for details. The General Meeting is Tuesday, March 14th at 7:00pm. Come early for a buffet dinner in the tent.

FEBRUARY 2017 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner consisted of hot dogs and hamburgers – nothing special and certainly not the culinary delights that we’re used to at Chateau Eldo. Maybe next month. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 85 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Tom Retterath, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New members present included Paul Marinko, Trevor Moore, and (returning member) Eric Miller. Welcome aboard men.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Select Drive Tournament: In the circle for A and B Flights, and on the green for C Flight, on #3; CTP on #9 and #17; and third shot in the circle for A and B Flights, and on the green for C Flight, on #7. February Membership 341

2017 is off to a nice wet start. Quad Club will be contested Saturday, May 13 at Lakewood CC. We are not just playing but are playing for the 4th consecutive win! Team rosters are now made up of 25 players. Cost to play will be $50 per player which includes green fee and prize fund. Your handicap will be determined per your May 1 Current Index. Please have your money to me in cash or a check payable to “Mike Vaughn” NLT the April 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament on Saturday April 15. The first group starting time will be Club Pros at 5:55 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with groups proceeding from lower to higher handicap. Captain of the Lakewood team advised we will be playing from the White tees as they have two tournaments scheduled following the Quad Club and speed of play is of utmost importance. The format will be Medal play using the old 3-2-1-0 point system. The initial players sought to be on this team have been contacted. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2018 event when the event returns to El Dorado.

Daylight Saving Time starts this year at 2:00 am Sunday March 12 and ends Sunday November 5 at 2:00 am. The Putting Contest will be held on meeting night during the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green. All players are welcomed back and new players are encouraged to participate in this fun activity. Format changes monthly.

Looking forward to summertime when the Flight Championships are put together. Those matches will get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signup sheets to be posted NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

Well apparently nobody was listening at the last meeting, or nobody played a postable round at The Do in February. Nobody turned in a card for either Gross or Net. No winners this month. I turned one in but team play doesn't count...at least I learned something new.

Reminder when turning in a card you must write if you are going for gross, net or both. You must have your GHIN number, what tees you played, your score, net score if going for net, and another members signature. Please print that players name as well as I can't read these signatures at times. And if you forgot your own name you are disqualified for being an idiot.

Yes, I think we are all tired of the rain, tired of cart paths only, tired of the mud. But let’s face it, we needed the rain and maybe the drought is over at last. That’s not to say we shouldn’t continue to be water wise and not wasteful. Please Bring on Spring and let’s get back to the sunny SoCal weather we are all accustomed to.

February results show that Bill and John Hasselman along with Brent Huntington, Austin Berisoff and Michael Miller shot an untouchable Gross score of 22 under par. I guess these guys were firing on all cylinders. Mark Baldwin’s group followed in the A-Flight with the net win. Harold Kline and company Won B-Flight Gross in a card off over Mark Miller’s group. Miller’s group also was beat out in a card off for the net win by Monty Bisson’s guys. Lucero “Mr. Entertainment" Chairman's team won C-Flight gross followed by Ruben Gonzales’s group. There were 6 teams with less than 5 players that formed D-Flight which was won by James Coates, George Manyak, Eric Sasaki and Anthony Coyne. Coming up this month is the Pat Harris St Patrick’s Day Waltz. This means back to playing your own ball and posting your scores. You won’t feel out of place if you wear something green for this tournament. Make sure to ask some of the older members to tell you their Pat Harris stories. Pat was a great guy with a great outlook on golf and life.

We are trying something new this month: Your group has the option of playing from either the white or blue tees. I just need to know by Tuesday March 14th General Meeting night. If I don’t hear from you by default, your group will play from the blue tees. Depending on the number of groups that signup to play from the white tees will determine the size and number of flights. The format for this tournament is a 5-man team 2, 3, 4 waltz. You will count the 2 best balls on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, and 16. Count the 3 best balls on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17. And the 4 best balls on holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18. I still have room so send me an email or give me a call and I’ll do my best to fit you in.

I will be taking signups for the April 15th 1 Gross 2 Net tournament at our March General Meeting. You will also want to keep in mind that in May is the Member Member Tournament and requires you to have played in 3 club events in the prior 12 months to qualify. so I’ll see all of you then.

Well it was a nice and muddy day at El Do. We had a nice turnout for the Special Events in all flights. A-flight got some nice points for the closest to the pins worth 134. Not a bad payout for the circle on 3 worth 37. B-flight big winner this month was Walter DeMoss cashing in on both closet to the pins worth 210. C-flight big winners where Mike Montgomery & Brian Ball nice work guys on 129 payday. Now back to some regular special event with skins and the traditional Pat Dance back in action for this month tourney.

Saturday Team has qualified for the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. Both the Boykers playing some outstanding golf this year with Ryan shooting gross 67 at The Links of Victoria and Rich with a nice 71 net ave. score. Ted Embry, Matt Williams, Matt Mendenhall and Greg Englant just to name a few with all playing some solid golf. Playoffs will be starting on March 18th so. if you like to come support the guys and have a drink around 18 watching everyone come in would be much appreciated.

Handicaps / Posting Scores

In March we star posting scores for all our Monthly Tournaments. Here are a few reminders for you on posting scores:

1. Make sure to POST all your scores; home or away. You can POST on the computer at the course you played, on the SCGA/GHIN application from a smart phone, or contact me and I will be happy to post a score for you.

2. Use the Equitable Stroke Control chart The ESC sets the maximum number of strokes you can post for any given hole based on you course handicap fro that round.

3. Make sure to POST all scores within 48 hours of the round played to ensure your round is entered in the correct revision period.

Hello Everyone,

I hope we have all had enough of the rain for a year so we can all enjoy the beautiful fairways and greens. There is a lot planned this month so pay attention and get involved.

April 15th is our next home tournament. It is the 1 Gross/2 Net, see Cliff Aichele our VP and Tournament Director for more details. He is always looking for singles. Golf I mean…So get in touch with him.

April 22 is The Golfer of The Year Tournament. This tournament is for all 12 Golfers of the Month gross and net. See Matt Huntington for details.

Congrats to Saturday Team Play for their second round win against the always tough Brookside Gold. They tied in regulation and won in a card-off with the 2 line 1 teams. Good luck on April 1 against Los Coyotes of Buena Park boys and let’s get to the final 4.

Lastly, start thinking about May, because we got some fun planned. May 13 is the Quad Club Tournament with all the Long Beach Clubs. See Mike Vaughn for more details. Cliff Aichele will also be taking signups for the best tournament of the year. It is our own version of the Member/Member club tournament. It is a 2 day event on May 20-21. MARCH 2017 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner got a little more extensive than usual, including a cheese and cracker tray, an artichoke and sun-dried tomato on French bread appetizer, salad, cheese tortellini, meat ravioli, sausage and peppers, marinara sauce, garlic bread, desert and a drink. Heck of a deal for $7.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Tom Retterath, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New member Jeff Nakao introduced himself and was told all the Club secrets by Past President Terry Fulford. President Zamora then requested a moment of silence in honor of two long time members who recently passed away – Jim Lenahan and Mike Callahan. We’ll miss them both.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Pat Harris St. Patrick’s Day Waltz Tournament. Because we will, in effect, have two separate tournaments (one from the white tees and one from the blue tees) we’ll have separate prizes for each. Special events will include Skins, CTP on #3 and #17, and Net Par or Better on Holes #2,5,8,11,14 and 17. Omar also noted that the Saturday Team Play Team, which ended the season 6-0, starts the play-offs against Lakewood. Good luck men.

Entertainment Director Lucero reported the results of the Rio Hondo Away Tournament. Our next Away Tournament is June 4 at Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine. See Lucero to sign up.

Director Jerry Leininger discussed how to apply for the SCGA multi-club discount if you belong to more than one club. Jerry also mentioned the discount card in the current edition of Fore Magazine. See Jerry if you didn’t receive the magazine. Most importantly, Jerry reminded everyone that you must POST YOUR OWN SCORE in the rest of this year’s monthly tournaments.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that he is finalizing the roster for the Quad Club Tournament to be held May 13th. We have won three in a row, so let’s make it four! Mike also announced the winner of our first putting tournament of the year – Greg Englant. Some day I’ll ask Greg about the economics of entering the competition 27 times to win $20. Just kidding Eggplant. Good job.

Director Matt Huntington announced the February Golfer of the Month award winners: NOBODY. It seems that there were no Net or Gross cards turned in. My 98 with an 18 handicap would have won both Net and Gross! And those GOM plaques are nice – just ask Dudley. Matty also announced the winner of the pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament – Scott Davis.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Cliff Aichele reminded everyone that our tournament is March 26th and we’ll break it up into a Blue Tee Tournament and a separate White Tee Tournament, with about a 50-50 split of those signing up. There will be A and B Flights for each .The format is a 2-3-4 Waltz. The next tournament is on April 15th and is 1 Gross 2 Net. The Member-Member is May 20 and 21, so line up your partner asap. The Golfer of the Year Tournament (for GOM winners in 2016) will be Saturday April 22nd.

Director Bob Livingstone, filling in for Mike Moraitis, discussed a slew of new rules currently scheduled to become effective 1/1/19. Included are changes regarding drops, relief, hazards, time spent looking for lost balls, and many other items. Check on USGA.Org for a complete listing and explanation. Most, if not all, of the proposed changes are designed to speed up play, something we all strongly support.

Hey guys, Quad Club is just around the corner. We are defending our title Saturday May 13 at Lakewood CC. Player cost will be $50 per player which includes green fee and prize fund. Your handicap will be determined per your May 1 Current Index. Please have your money to me in cash or a check payable to “Mike Vaughn” NLT the April 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament on Saturday, April 15. The first group starting time will be Club Pros at 5:55 am. The President / Vice President group will most likely tee off second, with groups proceeding from lower to higher handicap. Captain of the Lakewood team advised we will be playing from the White tees as they have two tournaments scheduled following the Quad Club and speed of play is of utmost importance. The format will be Medal play using the old 3-2-1-0 point system. The initial players sought to be on this team have been contacted. Players who win 3-points this year will have a roster spot guaranteed for the 2018 event when the event returns to El Dorado.

We had a great putting contest at the March meeting. There were 19 participants in the “Aces Only” event with four tied for 2nd place with (4); Paul Standish, Matt Williams, Colin Boylan, and Mike Roddy. The winner with (5) was Greg Englant. Be sure to set your iPhone calendar to be at the south putting green April 11 to participate in next month’s event. It will begin at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm. Format yet TBD.

Flight Championships are also coming up. Those matches get underway as early as August 1. Player entry fee will remain at $20. Signup sheets to be posted NLT June 1. More on that when the time gets closer.

We had much greater participation for the golfer of the month in February thanks mainly to Mother Nature. We had some low net scores but Mr. Tom Conlisk fired a solid net 63 t win the plaque, Great round Tom!! For the gross we only had two cards, both from my own group. Ryan Boyker with a 73, and Dave Rubin winning with a very boring 70 that i had to watch. Look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.

The March Pat Harris St Patrick’s Day Waltz tournament with Blue and White tee options, was a success. The field was split right down the middle; 18 teams from the Blue tees and 18 from the Whites. There were 17 teams that won scrip and that’s more than a third of the field. What was not a success… was the 7 foursomes in a 5-man team event.

Please, when you’re putting together your tournament groups look at your calendar, check with the family, do whatever it takes to make sure you’re available to play. It really helps and what I don’t want to do is start splitting groups up to fill out incomplete teams. But that’s a possible solution.

Coming up Saturday, April 15th is our 1-Gross 2-Net tournament. I still have spots if you would like to play I’ll find a spot for you.

Next month Saturday, May 20th and Sunday the 21st, is our first Major of the year: The Member/Member. This tournament is tons of fun! You don’t want to miss it. There will be a pairings party in the bar area on Friday, May 19th starting around 5pm then the real fun starts on Saturday. Omar Diaz will be handling special events that will include Saturday and Sunday sweeps. There are a multitude of ways to be a winner in this event, just check with any of the directors or older members for all the ins and outs.

The overall winning team will have the opportunity to represent our club in the SCGA 2017 4-Ball Tournament held later in the year. If you’re a single I will do my best to pair you with another member, it’s a great way to make new friends.

Sign-ups end Tuesday, May 9th the cost is $125.00 per player. There are several ways to sign-up for this event outlined below:

1. Fill out a Sign-up slip, place it in an envelope with payment and give it to me personally at our Tuesday, April 11th general meeting or turn in at the April tournament check in table.

2. Place your sign-up slip with payment in envelope and put it in the right-hand drawer mail slot by the posting computer in the pro shop.

3. Mail your sign-up slip and payment to the club’s PO Box however, this is the least desirable method.

Sign-up slips will be available in the pro shop, on the web site, at the general meeting or at the check-in table during the April tournament.
Because the Member/Member is one of the few subsidized tournaments, you must qualify to enter by having participated in at least three (3) Club events in the preceding 12 months and have an established SCGA handicap. Club events include monthly tournaments, away trips, team play matches, and quad club. If you have questions or concerns about qualifying, ask any Board Member or look at the SOP available on the website for detailed information. This tournament will be played at your 6-Mo L.I. or adjusted index, whichever is lower. Format is Better Ball on Saturday and Aggregate Count Them All on Sunday. Hope to see all of you on meeting night or at the next tournament.

We had a nice day for the Pat Dance this year. We had 21 winners for the Pat Dance, good job guys. Shaun Ferguson was a big winner with being the only Blue Tee B-flight to hit 17 for a nice payday. All skin winners got a nice payday as well.

Saturday Team made a nice run getting to the Quarterfinals this year and losing to Los Coyotes County Club 28-20. We fought hard as most matches came down to the 18th hole and could have gone either way. I am proud of the team efforts and commitment to the team play this year with some extra weeks thrown in with rainouts and 3 rounds of playoffs. Thanks to Rich Boyker as my vice-captain this year for your help with scorecards and advice on pairings I couldn't do this without you. To all members of Saturday Team I want to thank you for making this a fun great year and can't wait till next year to do it all over again.

Starting for the second year the Handicap Committee and BOD will be awarding our Golfer of the Quarter and Golfer of the YEAR AWARDS. This award is given to the Most Improved Players for reducing their handicap Index in a selected period based on the USGA recommended method.

Our requirements for Golfer of the Quarter are as follows;
1. We use the quarterly GHIN print outs to verify results.

2 You must have played in at least 2 EDMC events( monthly tournaments, away trips, or the weekender).

3. You must have played and posted at least 4 rounds in the quarter.

Hello Boys,

I hope all is well in the Clubhouse for you and that golf is on your mind. We have a lot going on this month starting with the Quad Club Tournament. The four local courses tee it up for a battle for the city trophy at stake. Mike Vaughn is in charge so see him for details. The date is May 13 at Lakewood.

Next on the list is our famous Member/Member 2 day Tournament on May 20-21. It is the biggest tournament of the year with lots of fun and games. See Cliff Aichele for all the information.

Remember June 4 is our next away time. It is to the OC at Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine. See Lucero the Great for details.

We also have our next home tournament on June 17th. It is the Blind Draw Partner and the first day of the Club Championship, a 3 day event that will continue June 24-25. Entry forms are on the web and at the meeting.

Lastly I am running the pre-meeting Derby at Hole 1 at 5:30. It is a 2 man event and it will cost $25 including prize money and cart.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 65 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s One Gross Two Net Tournament. In addition to Skins, we’ll have Net Par or Better North of Willow, and In the Circle (for A and B Flights, and On the Green for C Flight) on both #11 and #14.

Omar also noted that the Saturday Team Play Team, which ended the regular season 6-0, suffered their first loss of the year in the semi-finals of the playoffs. It was a tough loss after a great season. Congratulations to all Saturday Team players and coaches.

Entertainment Director Lucero reported that our next Away Tournament is June 4 at Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine. Cost will be $75. See Lucero to sign up.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Cliff Aichele reminded everyone that for the April One Gross Two Net Tournament you must take the lowest gross score in your group even if a different net score would be lower. Cliff also vehemently reminded everyone that you need to make certain that all 5 members of your group show up on Tournament Day. We had way too many last minute cancellations last month. The Member-Member is May 20 and 21, so line up your partner asap. The Golfer of the Year Tournament (for GOM winners in 2016) will be Saturday April 22nd.

New Business: Nick Zamora announced that our first of the year pre-meeting Derby will be held in May. Play will start at 5:30. Sign up with Nick asap if you want to participate.

Hi guys, for all intents and purposes, Team El Dorado is expected to continue our winning ways at the Quad Club event at Lakewood CC on Saturday, May 13. Lakewood has two tournaments following Quad Club and has scheduled the event to start at 5:55 am. We have a strong team. Our roster is being submitted to the Lakewood team captain. When he returns the scheduled times it will be sent to all Quad Club team members. Are you set and ready to pull off the 4-peat?

The April Putting Contest was “Count ‘em All”. We had (13) players in this event. 2nd Place went to Todd “Curly” Thiele, $17, with a 1-Under 17. We had a three-way tie for the Win with 2-Under 16. The winners were Matt Williams, Greg Englant and Josh Castlen for $28 each. The format next month will be different so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick.

Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green.

We had a lot of participation in the Golfer of the Month in April and that is great. What isn't great is how bad you people follow directions on how to fill the scorecard. Luckily our two winners (both won in a card off as well) did everything perfect!!!! I will start tossing out any card that is not filled out correctly. I will be laminating a practice card that will be kept on top of the Men's Club area in the Pro Shop if you need help, which seems to be 95% of you.

You must get a new card and put on it: your name, your GHIN #, what tees you played, your handicap if you are going for net, what you are competing for (Gross, Net, or both), and the fellow member playing with you must sign the card and print their name, and do not forget the date either. Thanks to everyone for getting this right.

Golfer of the Year was a big success too as Dave Rubin took the Crown in cruise mode with a 71 as well as Don Didier with his net 68 was also an easy win. Dave had Steve Giroux 2 behind him which really was not that close, but Don won by 5 over the next closest person. Those Plaques will be ordered soon.

See you guys May 9th at the meeting and do not forget about the 9 hole tournament which will be played from the White tees.

The April 1-Gross 2-Net tournament is in the books. We had 158 players and only 2 groups that had less than 5 players-that’s great! The Hasselman brothers team won the A-Flight (no shock there) and it was also no surprise that the blind draw helped team Montgomery win B-Flight. C-Flight was won by Lucero and his boys… this guy just seems to keep picking winning teams. Check the website to see how your team finished.

We have a great weekend of golf planned for this month! It all starts Friday the 19th around 5pm with a pairings party in the bar area at El Dorado, then golf kicks off Saturday the 20th and finishes up on Sunday the 21st. Its the annual Member Member which is our biggest tournament of the year! Here are some things to know: entries will close May 9th on General Meeting night. Please take note that we skip the weekend after the general meeting due to Mother’s Day, and play the following weekend.

The best way to get the sign-up form to me is by putting it in the right hand drawer by the computer in the pro shop, cost is $125 per player. You must qualify to enter by having participated in at least three (3) Club events in the preceding 12 months, and have an established SCGA handicap. Club events include monthly tournaments, away trips, team play matches, and the Quad Club. If you have questions or concerns about qualifying, ask any Board Member or look at the SOP on the website for detailed info. This tournament will be played at your L.I. or adjusted index, whichever is lower. Format is best ball on Saturday from the blue tees using 90% of your LI and aggregate “count them all” from the white tees using 100% of your LI on Sunday. There will only be Gross payouts in the A-Flight, all other flights will be net payouts only.

There will be a pairings party in the bar area on Friday the 19th starting around 5pm, so come out and meet your fellow competitors and make a friendly wager with another team or two! Omar Diaz will be handling special events that will include Saturday and Sunday sweeps. There are lots of ways to cash in this event, just check with some of the long time members for all the ins and outs. If you don’t have a partner and are still interested in playing, contact myself and I’ll do what I can to pair you up. Once again, sign-up sheets with envelopes are available in the pro shop next to the computer, they are also available on the website. It’s shaping up to be a great weekend, I’m really looking forward to seeing all of you on the green!

At this month’s general meeting on Tuesday May 9th I will be taking sign-ups for the June 18th Blind Draw tournament, this is also the first round of the club championship.

We had some nice hot weather out there and some nice hot payouts for special events for the 1 Gross 2 Net Tourney. In A-flight the big winner was Frank Followell with the only skin on #15. B-flight big winner was George Manyak cashing in on 3 events. For the C-flight guys there where 2 big winners in Greg Ramsey with 2 skins & the On the Green on 11 and Dave Chamberlain the only other guy On the Green on 11. We had 29 winners of North of Willow for $22 each. Congrats to all of our winners.

Now on to one of the El Do Major: the Member/Member. We will be doing Sweeps for both days, the cost will be $20 a man. Now both guys need to get in sweeps together or you can't be in the sweeps. One player can pay for both guys if they choose.

We will be taking sign ups on Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th only. You must sign up for Sunday's Special Events on those days. We will not take any sign ups on Sunday. So just get your $60 buy in ready on Friday or Saturday. $20 for Saturday's events $20 for Sunday's events & $20 for Sweeps.

Hello Gentlemen,

Another month has come and gone. It seems that just yesterday we were unwrapping Christmas presents and I am still waiting for my gift, ( A GOOD GOLF GAME). The Member/Member was a great hit, as usual. We had some very low scores. Check and see if you won anything and remember my cut. This tournament has a lot of payouts. A huge THANK YOU goes to Rick Crowder, Bing Robert Smith, and all their staff for all the hard work both inside the restaurant and on the course. They do a lot behind the scenes to make this event the best in the City. Another Thanks for coming goes to Cliff Aichele and all the Directors for their time and support. It is a long two days and a lot is done weeks before.

Next on the tee is an away trip to the OC. It begins on Sunday June 4th and we go to Rancho San Juaquin in Irvine. Thanks Lucero for putting it in my backyard, I can walk home from there. See Lucero for more details and ask him about the July 29th away trip to Los Verdes in Palos Verdes. It may be the closest course a lot of us might get to Pebble Beach.

June 17 is the Partner Blind Draw Tournament and the first day of The Club Championship. You must play the 17th in order to play the next weekend. This is a 3 day tournament and I am running it. I have signup sheets on the website and I have entry forms at the computer in the pro shop. Don’t delay and get me your entry. You can put them in the drawer in the pro shop.

MAY 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting Cinco de Mayo dinner included salad, chips, salsa, tortillas, beans, rice, chicken enchiladas, chicken fajitas, desert and a drink. Much more appealing than last month’s road kill special. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 80 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. There were no new members present. . President Zamora then noted that there was a get well card for all who wished to sign for Steve Liebeck, who recently underwent amputation of his leg. Our best wishes go out to Steve during this tough time.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Member-Member Tournament. Saturday’s events include skins, In-the-Circle (or on the green for C Flight) on your second shot on #5, CTP on #17, and net par or better Down the Stretch (#15, 16, 17 and 18). Sunday’s events include skins and CTP on #3, 9 and 12. Omar reminded us of the Pairing Party on Friday night before the Tournament. This is always a fun event, including free snacks provided by the course.

Omar also announced the results of the 9 Hole Tournament. Don Didier narrowly edged out Mike Belcher for the win. And finally, Omar announced the winners of the Golfer of the Year Tournament. Gross Flight winner was Dave Rubin with a nice 71, and Net Flight winner was Don Didier in a runaway with a net 68. Looks like retirement is agreeing with Don.

Entertainment Director Lucero reminded us that the next Away Tournament is Sunday June 4 at Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine. It will be a Reverse Waltz foursome format. Lucero is also starting up the “Little Brown Jug” competition wherein your best Away Tournament scores are compiled and compared. See Lucero for a detailed explanation of this competition.

Director Jerry Leininger noted that all players must post their own score for this month’s event. Saturday will be from the Blue tees (Regular Score) and Sunday will be from the White tees (Tournament Score).

Director Mike Vaughn announced that he is finalizing the roster for the Quad Club Tournament to be held May 13th. He also announced the winners of the pre-meeting Putting Tournament, which had 20 participants this month. There was a 5-way tie for second place, but the big winners tying for first were Colin Boylan and Matt Williams.

Director Matt Huntington announced the April GOM winners – Vern Followell with a Gross 71, and Scott Chamberlain with a net 65.

Vice President/Tournament Chairman Cliff Aichele reminded everyone about the Friday Night Pairing Party before the two day Member-Member Tournament. He also noted that if there are 8 or more teams entered where the two players’ differentials are 8 strokes or more, then we will have a separate Flight for those teams. Cliff noted that there were only two teams last month that had a player not show and thus needed to use a blind draw for their fifth score. Cliff reminded us that the June Tournament is a Blind Draw event.

President Nick Zamora announced the results of the pre-meeting Derby. The Giroux/Tramer Team and the Vanderbroek/Standish Team tied for second, with first place going to the Englant/Reagan Team. Nick is going to be running a Derby before next month’s meeting, so see him to sign up. It’s a lot of fun. Nick also reminded us that the Club Championship Competition will take place on June 17, 24 and 25. You must have played in 3 events in the past 12 months to qualify to play in the Championship.

Hi guys, albeit we are having some great weather, Team El Dorado had to relinquish the Quad Club trophy to Lakewood as they won on their turf Saturday May 13. We got off to a slow start and a few players scored less than had anticipated. Our players that scored 3-points were Eugene Milner, John Wong, Bill Walton, Robert Creighton, Juan Rodriquez and Larry Bartley. Team scores were Lakewood 46.5, El Dorado 39.5, Rec. Park 35 and Skylinks 29. We took second and need to get ourselves psyched to win the trophy back in 2018 when Quad Club returns to El Dorado on April 28, 2018, the 4th Saturday of April.

The May Putting Contest was “Aces Only”. We had (20) players in this event. 2nd Place was a five-way tie with (3) Aces for $12 each. Once again we had a two-way tie for the Win with (5)! The winners were Colin Boylan and Matt Williams for $43 each. The format next month will be shaken up a little so be sure to get to the meeting early and bring your flat stick. Action will start at or about 5:15 and continue to 6:45 pm on the south green.

Entries for the Flights Championship will be taken starting meeting night, Tuesday June 13. Entry remains at $20 per player. All entry money will create the prize pool which will be returned.

I am going to become a broken record, but I will start off with how to fill out a GOM card again. Your name, your score, if going for net (-HCP) after your score, GHIN number, date, what you are trying to win (Gross/Net/ or both), what tees you played, and the signature AND PRINTED NAME of who you played with. Mike Drew you are being called out!!! Once again had you had the lowest score you would not have won as you had only your name, score and GOM on the card. I have said it before and printed it, your GOM does not count unless all these items are on there. Thank you, Mark Schmillen, and Sunny Nimkhum for doing that, and amazing playing by both of you to win. There are sample laminated score cards by the computer on our counter in the pro shop.

We will have a 9 hole tournament meeting night and the Club adds money to this event so try to get in as we have barely cracked 10 participants so far,.

The Member Member has come and gone, and that means summer is right around the corner! Based off everything I saw; the MM was a success. Rick Crowder, Robert Smith “Bing” and the whole El Dorado crew sure know how to take care of us, starting with the hors d’oeuvres in the bar Friday night and then continuing right on through the weekend. Thanks El Dorado for being the best muni in the area, hands down!

There were definitely some low scores on Sunday: Sonny Nimkhum carded an incredible 63 gross, and Mark Baldwin and Ryan Boyker shot smooth gross 69’s. Even from the white tees these are great scores and it goes to show we have some really solid players in our club. Team Diaz/Nimkhum had no problem winning A-Flight gross. Matt Williams and Matt Mendenhall won A-Flight Net, these guys have to be the two most enthusiastic golfers I have met in a long time and are only going to get better and better. Steve Cook with Mark Schmillen shot the lowest 2-day net score (198) winning B-Flight. C-Flight was won by “Who’s your Daddy” Don Marmion and Bill Walton, the Gap8 flight was won by “Seabass” Sturdevant and Plumridge, which actually turned out to be a very competitive flight with no huge runaways. Check the results tab on the website to see how your team measured up.

Coming up this month on Saturday, June 17th is the Blind Draw Partners. This tournament also doubles as the first round of the Club Championship; if you’re playing in the Club Championship you should first sign-up and pay separately for the Blind Draw Partners tournament, then secondly sign-up and pay separately for the Club Championship. Again, for accounting purposes its required and greatly appreciated if participants pay the $60 for the monthly tournament and then $100 separately for the Club Championship. The C.C. sign-up form is available on the website. Any question about the C.C. should be directed to Nick Zamora or any of the Board of Directors.

At the June 13th general meeting President Nick Zamora will be filling in for me and taking sign-ups for one of my favorite tournaments: The July 15th Red White Blue. I’ll be Looking forward to seeing on tournament day.

Another great Member/Member tourney has come and gone with some big payouts with 3 different chances to make some $$. Saturday Sweeps winners in A-flight where Roddy/Perry with a nice 61 net. B-flight Castlen/Henn 61 net. C-flight Walton/D.Marmion won tiebreaker 64 net. Gap-flight Ball/McGwire won tiebreaker 64 net.

Sunday Sweeps winners A-flight Williams/mendenhall 137 net. B-flight Cook/Schmillen 131 net. C-flight Moore/Belcher 139 net. Gap-flight Huntington/Huntington net 141.

There where some real nice payouts for special events for both days with the A-flight skins on Saturday being carried over to Sunday for a double pot skins game.

For this month Blind Draw special events will be Skins, Closest to the Pin on # 9, In the circle for A & B flight, C-flight On the Green for 2nd shot on #14. And Net Par or better on the First 3 holes & Last 3 holes (1, 2, 3, 16, 17, 18).

Your score will be held and posted automatically for you so please do not post 2 or more times You can always use your personal computer or cell phone to post without any issues.

Dear Handicap Chairs and Club Officials,

The USGA has advised us that for various reasons score posting and other features will be offline at various points during the rest of 2017. The most prevalent action that might occur is related to scores being posted at golf course computers. If this happens, the posting computers at courses will be placed in a “cache” mode, thereby holding members scores until the program is again online, most likely the evening of the same day. Club members will be aware when this happens via messaging during the posting process – “your score has been saved.” During this same downtime, guests will not be able to post at course computers and will need to find alternative means to post their scores (scga.org, ghin.com, mobile app, etc.)

The USGA is modifying its entire handicap platform in connection with the GHIN service and we hope that this will be a non-issue beginning in 2018. In the interim, periodic downtime will happen, and unfortunately we are not given notice on this. Please be aware of this likelihood and prepare your members and those who oversee the score posting computer operation at the course. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Hello Gentlemen,

Summer is in full swing and I hope you are all taking advantage of all the golf activities this club is putting out for you. We just finished the Club Championships and we had a great turnout this year. The 3 day event was won by Sonny Nimkuhm. He won the gross by 5 strokes, a crazy 206. The A net winner was Matt Williams who won by 7 strokes shooting a gross 74 on Sunday. The B net winner was Tim Hodge, who played pretty solid for 3 days except for a 9 on the first day that kept everyone in the hunt until he poured it on the next weekend. Thank you to everyone for participating and we will see you at the Senior Club Aug 26.

July 15 is the Red, White and Blue Tournament. See Cliff Aichele for information and tee times. July 29 is an away trip to Los Verdes. See Lucero for any details regarding this trip to Palos Verdes. This fills up quick so don’t delay and be left on the tee.

Mike Vaughn is in charge of the Flights Championships. He does a great job organizing this 4 month event. It is all about “MATCH PLAY” here so bring your competitive side out and play with the big boys.

We also have the Long Beach Open. This is a pro event that runs July 27 to 30. They have pro/am event Weds. the 26th. It is a full day of activity, starting with a full breakfast buffet. Next is a shotgun best ball golf tournament with one of the pros in the event. Finishing with an awards lunch and a raffle with some great prizes. We are selling raffle tickets at the meeting for 3 spots for the day. See Mike Montgomery for further details.

JUNE 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting Southern Redneck dinner included fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans, coleslaw, corn on the cob, desert and a drink. This was a welcome change from the frequent Mexican or Italian menus.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Past President Terry Fulford , who was filling in for President Nick Zamora, who was filling in for VP Cliff Aichele ,who was out of town on business .Terry led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 70 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New Member Wes McCollum introduced himself to the group. Terry gave an “atta-boy” to three members who made the round of 32 in the Long Beach Amateur Tournament – Mike Roddy, Ted Embry and Omar Diaz.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz was not present. We think the Special Events for June will include skins, second shot in the circle (or on the green for C Flight) on #14, and something else. Maybe Omar will decide after the tournament.

Director Dennis Tramer, filling in for Entertainment Director Lucero, discussed the results of the Rancho San Joaquin Away Tournament, noting that the course was in good shape and the staff treated us very well. The next Away Tournament is July 29 at Los Verdes, always a favorite course .There were only 7 participants in the 9 Hole Tournament, with Terry Fulford shooting a Net 28 to lap the field. The pre-meeting Derby was won by the team of Steve Cook and Greg Englant, with Skinner/Zamora finishing second and Huff/Williams finishing third.

Director Jerry Leininger noted that SCGA informed us that the may be “issues” with posting scores on the Pro Shop computer. You may have a message appear indicating that your score will be posted later. DO NOT POST TWICE.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that the Flights Tournament would be starting soon and urged everyone to sign up for this fun event. Mike also noted that we fell a little short in the Quad Club, finishing second to Lakewood. The pre-meeting Putting Contest ended up as a three way tie for first place with Monty Bisson, Todd Thiele and Rich Gilmore sharing the pot.

Director Mike Montgomery announced that he will be selling raffle tickets for the Long Beach Golf Festival at this month’s tournament and at the July meeting. Bring money!!

President Nick Zamora, filling in for VP Cliff Aichele, discussed the June Blind Draw Tournament, which is also the first of three rounds for the Club Championship. Nick also took sign-ups for the July Red-White-Blue Tournament.

Terry Fulford announced the Golfer of the month Awards for May. Gross winner was Sonny Nimkhum with an awesome 63 (a score unmatched in the history of ElDo except by Paul Goydos). Net winner was Mark Schmillen with an equally impressive 62. Great job, guys.

The June Putting Contest was a “Count Them All” that had 23 participants! We had a 3-way tie for the win at 3-under by Monty Bisson, Rich Gilmore and Todd Thiele for 33 skins each. Mike Roddy, Bret Holloway, Brian Dauk and Greg Englant tied for 2nd with 2-under getting 10 skins. Be sure to make the next putting contest on meeting night July 11. It will start at or near 5:30 pm on the south green. This is a good way to sharpen your flat stick skills.

The Flights Championship Match Play sign-ups are under way. I would like to fill five (5) flights, (80) players. Please note a signup sheet is not posted in the hallway due to some limited mobility. To enter see me at the meeting, at a home tournament, or by phone or email (714-420-1248 or mike.v@verizon.net). I need your name, GHIN Number, 6 mo. Low Index, telephone number and email. Place your $20 Entry (cash or check made payable to “Mike Vaughn”) in an envelope marked “Flights Entry” in the top right drawer in the Men’s Club cabinet in the Pro Shop or send your $20 to me in the form of a check to my home address, 320 Magpie Lane, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. Only entries that are prepaid are guaranteed to be placed in a bracket. Your August match is to be played from August 1 thru August 31.

Reserved Match Play times are being secured for Saturday and Sunday morning beginning in August and continuing through Championship Saturday, November 11. Players can secure these times from me. Dates and Times will be sent to all participants just before August 1. As soon as we have (80) or (64) participants the brackets will be put together and released to the players. The reserved times for the Flights will also be advised. Please note our group “Reserved” times not filled must be released back to American Golf on the Wednesday of the week of your match. More details on the Flight Championships will follow in group emails to the participants. Everything appears to be much the same. Enjoy this exciting heads up competition.

Well this month it finally happened!!!! Both people that should have won Golfer of the Month did not win because they did not fill out the GOM card correctly. I have expressed this too many times to let things slide anymore and I am sorry to both Canaan Owens who shot an amazing 69 but you did not put your GHIN number nor fill out your hole by hole scores correctly. Putting 1’s and 0’s to what you were to par on each hole does not count. Mr. Corey Henn you filled out a NET GOM card but did not write down your Handicap which is likely the most important part of a net card. You shot an amazing 75 which is likely a net 63 or net 64 but it gets tossed as well. You are both nice guys and like you both personally but I have been enforcing these rules for the entire year. THERE ARE SAMPLE SCORECARDS RIGHT WHERE THE GOM Cards are to be turned in.

I would like to start off by extending a big thank you to President Nick Zamora for covering for me at the June meeting, putting together the June Blind Draw tournament and taking signups for July. But, have no fear I’m back on the job and looking forward to this month’s Red White Blue Tournament.

It’s always fun to see who ended up with who in The Blind Draw Partners. There were some very interesting pairings… maybe even a little yin and yang going on. I’ll say sorry for all of us who played like crap and dragged down our innocent partners, but that’s the way the ball bounces. For some however, it was a perfect matchup, like Scott Brown & Vern Followell winning A-Flight, Steven Whitaker & Ron Lamerton winning B-Flight, Tyler Marmion & Warren Wysong winning C-Flight and finally Larry Bartley & Bill Ward winning a card-off in D-Flight. All of the results are posted on our website, check to see who you were partnered with.

For those of you that haven’t participated in the July Red White Blue Tournament, it’s a 5-man team event, teeing it up on 6 holes from the red tees, 6 from the white tees, and 6 from the blue tees. You will score the 4-best balls on the red tee holes, 3-best balls on the white tee holes, and 2- best balls on the blue tee holes. There will be 3 flights with net and gross payouts in each. Please contact me if you’re interested in playing, there are still spots available.

Make it a point to come out for the Tuesday, July 11th General Meeting. I will be taking signups for the Saturday, August 12th 3-Best Ball Tournament.

The golf course was in great shape the people that showed up had lots of fun.

This quarter we have a past winner in 2016 as our Most Improved Golfer for April- June 2017: Scott Lindman. Scott had a Improvement factor of 1.191 starting with a 9.2 index in April and ending with an index of 5.8.

Also in contention were Bill Copeland, George Frey, Daniel Kletke, Elliott Harkness, Greg Andersen, Nick De Lia, Mark Schmillen, and Don Spradlin.

Hello Gentlemen,
I hope all is well on the golf front and you are all enjoying this fine weather. A big men’s club golf clap goes to the entire staff at El Dorado for hosting the 2017 Long Beach Open. As usual, Mark Lilleberg and his staff have gotten the course in perfect shape. Good luck to all who are playing.
Flights matches are underway and all flights are posted. Check with Mike Vaughn to see who you are playing. He has done a fabulous job with organizing these matches with the phone numbers and emails. So there is no excuse for not communicating with your fellow competitor. It is your respocibility to get your matches complete by the end of the month or risk being disqualified. Mike is working with Rick to get us tee times.
The Senior Club Championship is Aug. 26-27. See Mike Montgomery for all the details. There is a signup sheet on the web. Remember you must be 50 years or older to qualify.
The Partner/Partner is coming up September 16-17. So get your sandbagger partner early or you might have to play with me. This tournament is a little different than most and it is a lot of fun.
A reminder that the BOD election is in November. If you have any interest in joining the board of directors please let one of the directors know. We are always looking for a few good men to help the best men’s club in Long Beach.
And yes I will be running a derby this month starting at 5:30. It is a $25 buy in and that includes golf, prizes, and cart.

JULY 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting South of the Border dinner included salad, chips, tortillas, rice, beans, steak fajitas, salsa, sour cream, cheese, desert and a drink. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Past President Terry Fulford , who was filling in for President Nick Zamora, who was out of town busy chopping down trees. Terry led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Rich Dennison, Mike Montgomery, Tom Retterath and Life Member Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Red-White-Blue Tournament. They include skins, Closest to the Pin on #3, second shot in the circle (A and B Flights) or on the green (C Flight) on #13, and a White Tea Party – net par or better on all the white holes (#2,5,7,11,14 and 17).

Entertainment Director Lucero reminded us that the next away tournament is July 29th at Los Verdes. Total cost will be $85. This is one of the most popular away tournaments, so if you haven’t already signed up, do so asap. The next away tournament after that is September 30th at Lakewood. The Weekender will be October 27-29 at San Vicente. Look on the website for more information about this fun weekend.

Director Jerry Leininger announced the winner of the Most Improved Golfer Award for the second quarter of 2017 : Scott Lindman. Nice job Scott.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that the Flights Tournament would be starting soon and urged everyone to sign up and pay their entry fee for this fun event. Mike is hoping to have five flights this year. The pre-meeting Putting Contest ended up as a six way tie for second place with Greg Englant returning to form and coming in first. Chief MW is Back!

Director Mike Montgomery announced that he is selling raffle tickets for the Long Beach Golf Festival and that the drawing will be right after the meeting. Mike also noted that he will be running the Senior Club Championship on August 26-27.

Director Bob Livingstone, nattily attired in a lilac shirt, substituted for Mike Moriatis and gave a brief rundown on various rule differences relative to match play.

Director Matt Huntington, even more nattily attired in a plum heather shirt, gave Dave Rubin his Golfer of the Year trophy. Nice job, Dave. Matt announced the winner of the 9 hole pre-meeting tournament as Lucero, who narrowly edged out Jeff Degraaf. GOM awards for June went to Scott Paul with a Gross 70, and Gary Lee with a Net 65.

VP Cliff Aichele discussed the format for the Red-White-Blue Tournament this month. You’ll count 2 scores on the blue tee holes, 3 scores on the white tee holes, and 4 scores on the red tee holes. You will post your own score as “white non-tournament.” The August Tournament will be a three best balls event.

Terry Fulford announced the results of the Club Championship. Winners were Sonny Nimkhum, Matt Williams, and Tim Hodge, each of whom won their respective divisions in a romp. Great work guys.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Bob Livingstone gave a heart- felt spiel encouraging everyone (but especially newer younger members) to get involved in the running of the club, either on the Board or volunteering at various events. We really need some new blood to help out, as some of us on the Board have been doing this for decades. Please help out!

The $50 drawing winner was Lucero. It was quite a good day for our Entertainment Director. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

The Long Beach Golf Festival drawing winners were Jim Fuchs, Dewayne Kirksey and Tom Herrin.

The July Putting Contest was an “Aces Only” game. None of the holes was longer than 12 feet so I anticipated someone would make as many as 7. We had (6) players tie at 3; Steve Cook, Brian Ball, Scott Chamberlain, Robb Kelman, Wes McCullum and Monte Bisson for 10 bones each. Our winner was Greg Englant who dropped 4 of them for 60 bones. Hope to see you all at the next contest on meeting night, Tuesday August 8. Probably run a different format. It will be starting at or near 5:30 pm on the south green.

The Flights Championship Match Play sign-ups are finished and we have (5) full flights! Brackets with the Guidelines for the Flights were sent to all the participants by email on July 31. Your August match is to be played between August 1 and August 31.

Reserved Match Play times have been anchored for Saturday and Sunday mornings, beginning in August and continuing through Championship Saturday, November 4. Players can secure these times from me. Participants were advised of the dates and times on the email with the roster and guidelines that were sent to them on July 31. Reserved times not filled must be released back to American Golf on the Wednesday of the week of your match. More details on the Flight Championships will follow in group emails to the participants. Well, Well, Well let me thank everyone that participated in the Golfer of the Month and turned in a scorecard. For the first month I did not get a scorecard that was incorrect, there was only one where the names were not printed on the signature line, but no big deal as it was not the winning card. Originally I thought Jim Coates had pulled off a net 63 to win but after looking at his actual Handicap from the White tees he was a 20 HCP and not a 21, so he shot net 64. Remember it is your L.I. for GOM. That made a great 3 way tie between himself, Dennis Tramer, and Scott Davis. Scott wins the tie breaker with an AMAZING 34 gross on the back for a net 30. Scott had you written GOM Net “AND GROSS” on the card your 72 would have won Gross as well as the Net GOM which has not happened in a while, or ever…not sure we’d have to ask Livy. So Eugene Milner was the only Gross Card in the bin and he wins with a boring 74. I would kill for a 74 but Geno normally shoots much better than my chop self, but it was still smart of him to turn the card in so he can potentially compete in next year’s GOY tourney.

Please remember GOM is always L.I., for most it does not make a difference but it did this month. Please come out to the meeting and participate in the 9 Hole tourney because there are only a couple left for the year. We will play White tees again, next month I will likely do Blue tees but the course is playing tough enough right now so White should be fine.

I hope everyone is enjoying summer, taking time out for vacation and playing a little extra golf.

No surprise the team net scores for the July Red White Blue tournament were all under par of 220. I also noticed when reviewing the individual scores, there were only 2 players in the field that shot gross scores below par: Ted Embry and Mark Baldwin. Good playing guys! However, it just goes to show that even with the shorter setup, El Dorado still has some teeth and can defend itself from the low handicappers. I also took note that quite a few of the higher handicappers were able to shoot ego boosting rounds, that translated to very low net scores. I’m keeping those names to myself to maintain their anonymity. I will let you know, several are current or former board members! The RWB results have been posted and here are a few highlights: Team Lilleberg edged out Team Diaz for A-Flight gross win followed by team Mark “Shark” Perry for the A-Flight net win. Team Degraaff -Degraaff won B-Flight net, Team “I Never Win Anything” Tramer finished second. Team Coates won C-Flight gross and “Team “Dudley” Dennison won net. You can find a complete list of results on the website.

Coming up this month, Saturday the 12th, will be the 3-Best Ball tournament. I have openings so please contact me if you’re looking to play.

Next month, September 16th and 17th, is the Partner, the last 2-day event of the year. Get partnered up and join in. This tournament has no eligibility requirements and is open to all current club members. The Cost is $120 per player. There will be 4 different formats: Saturday starts off with a 2-man scramble on the front 9, followed by a crossover on the back. Sunday the front 9 is a 2-man best ball, followed by count-them-all aggregate on the back.

Sign up slips will be available at the General Meeting, Tuesday August 8th, or next to the computer in the pro shop. Sign up slips are also available for download on the website. Signups end September 12th, please take note, the sooner I receive your sign-up sheet the better chance you have of getting the tee time you request! You can give your sign-ups sheet directly to me, or put them in an envelope and either drop it in mail slot of the drawer (by the computer in the pro shop) or mail it to:

First I want to start by saying what a perfect day for golfing we had great weather no fog, it was just great, at Los Verdes.
I want to thank everybody that showed up, we had only one absent, looks like our president had a little accident the previous day, fell off a bicycle, if anyone of you have any training wheels please bring them to our next meeting.

Handicap Newsletter

One of the key elements of the USGA Handicap is that of Peer Review and per the USGA definition: “Peer Review is the ability of golfers to gain an understanding of a player’s potential ability and to form a reasonable basis for supporting or disputing a score that has been posted" (USGA Handicap System). Please take note of the "player's potential ability" in this sentence. The Handicap Committee understands that everyone can have a "career day" every once in a while and takes that into consideration when we are making any handicap adjustments. The more times you play to your net par for a round, (net 72 or better) the more we look into a "players potential".

Two essential elements of peer review are 1) Members of a golf club must have a reasonable and regular opportunity to play together (our Monthly tournaments) and 2) Access must be provided to scoring records, as well as to a Handicap Index list for inspection by others, including but not limited to fellow club members.

This is why you will find our Index Reports posted in the hallway bulletin board and in the display case in the patio area. We also display at least the last 2 months index reports in the hallway for your review.

If you should have a question as to a player’s index information or handicap, please contact the Handicap Committee and we will review the specifics.

The Handicap system is not just the job of the Handicap Chairman or Committee.

Hello Boys,

I hope everyone is enjoying this great summer we are having. There are so many things happening with the club you would be crazy not to be involved in the best club ever.

We had the Senior Club Championships on Aug.26-27. The winner and still champ was Jim Fuchs. Second was a tie with Tom Retterath and Steve Friend. The A flight winner was Dan Pearson and coming in second was John Wong. The B flight winner was Paul Standish and Larry Bartley was close on his heals came in second. All the results are posted. Thank you Mike Montgomery for your help in running the weekend. Also thank you goes to Bobby Livingstone for his work with scoring and for Jerry Leininger for his help with the first tee. Good job men.

Each of the net winners for the Club and the Senior Championship in A and B flights will play a one day playoff for a chance to represent the Club in the net Flight division in the SCGA Tournament of Champions. We will let them know with the date soon.

We are in the second round of the Flight Championship. Speak to Mike Vaughn, who is in charge of the event, and doing an amazing job, for arranging dates.

Remember Sept. 30 is another away trip to downtown LAKEWOOD. And the weekender is coming up on October 27-29. We are going to San Vicente. See Lucero for all the details.

Remember the Board of Directors (BOD) elections are coming up in November. If you are interested in joining the proud and the brave and you want to run for a position on the BOD. Let a director know and he will get you involved. We always encourage new ideas. It is you guys that make this club great and stronger for the future. Can I get an AMEN brother?

One last thing, our final pre meeting Derby will be held on Sept.12th at 5:30. As always be ready to play on the first tee at 5:20. It is open to all members and the cost is $25 including golf and cart.

AUGUST 2017 MEETING MINUTES

Nick also distributed Club Championship awards to Sonny Nimkhum (Championship Flight), Matt Williams (A Flight) and Tim Hodge (B Flight). Matt’s acceptance speech thanked the club for the warm welcome he has received as a new member.

Vice President Cliff Aichele summarized results of the Red/White/Blue Tournament, noting that old guys and short hitters (I’m both) did well under this format. This month it’s Three Best Balls. September 16/17 is Partner/Partner, a mail-in application. Cost is $120 for two days.

The winner, Matt Williams, shot 4-under and collected $30. Set your phone calendars to be at this tournament on meeting night starting at or near 5:30 pm on the south green. This is always a fun gathering.

The Flights Championship Match Play is underway. We have five (5) full Flights this year. The August matches have been played and are in the books. Only one (1) match needed an extra hole to decide. Your September match is to be played between September 1 and September 30.

Reserved times for the September matches are still available are Saturday September 9 at 8:12 and 8:20, Saturday September 23 for (1) Match at 8:20 and 8:28, Sunday September 24 for (1) match at 8:04, and Saturday September 30 at 8:04. October times are reserved for Saturday October 7 at 8:04, 8:12 and 8:20. 8:04 and 8:12 are reserved for Saturday and Sunday October 8, 21 and 22. We have 8:04, 8:12 and 8:20 reserved for Championship Saturday, November 4. Players can secure these times from me. Dates, times and your 6 month LI will be sent to all participants on Wednesday evening of the week your match play time is reserved. Please note Reserved times not filled must be released back to American Golf on the Wednesday of the week of your match. Overall everything appears to be going well. We are heading into the final quarter of 2017…can you believe it? Time flies when you’re chasing a golf ball. Well, enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, because before you know it we will be breaking out our winter shorts and warmer golf shirts, it is So Cal so don’t worry we still have tons of great golf weather ahead.

The turnout for our August 3-Best Ball Tournament was a little on the light side, possibly because a lot guys took time out for vacation, we had 150 players total. That being said there were plenty of the usual suspects on the leader board. Following are flight winners. A-Flight Gross winners team: Diaz, Huntington, Rubin, Vanderbroek and Boyker. A-Flight net winners team: Ferguson, Milner, Bisson, Whitaker and Berka. B-Flight gross winners team: Ball, Kirksey, Lindman, Manyak and Coates. B-Flight net winners team: Bryan, Paul, McCullough, Collins and Meyer. C-Flight gross winners team: Bellamy, Russell, Clark, Douglas and Adinolfi. C-Flight net winners team: Reinking, Alberth, Standish, Chamberlin and Chamberlin. D-Flight (4-man teams) net winners team: Mendenhall, Belcher Williams and Moore. Coming up September 16th and 17th is the Partner tournament. Make sure to get your signup slips turned in ASAP to secure a spot. Cost is $120 per player. Sign up slips are available in the Pro Shop and on the website. See the August newsletter for complete info, or you can always contact any of the board members or myself for help. This tournament is a lot of fun and open to all current members.

Come out for the September 14th General Meeting, as we will be taking sign-ups for the October Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament. Remember to fill out your signup slips in the order of you want the orange ball to be played (ie. the first player gets the orange ball on #1 the second player gets it on #2 and so forth and so on).

Well boys summer is over and the kids are back in school. Just in time to get some last minute golf in before the Daylight Saving kicks in. So let’s get out there and play more golf.

The month of September was full with the Partner/Partner weekend event taking place the 16th and 17th. This is always a lot of work and a special thank you goes to Cliff Aichele for running a smooth tournament.

The Flights Championships are continuing 2 more months so if you are still in, good luck, and see Mike Vaughn for tee times. October 14th is The Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament. It is a 3 best ball affair and he who has the orange ball on that hole must use that score. It is a little different type of tournament and you really find out if you can handle a little pressure. See Cliff Aichele, our VP if you want to play.

Remember the Board of Directors (BOD) elections are coming up in November. If you are interested in running for the board or want to just get involved and help. Please let a current BOD member know. We always encourage new ideas and new blood on the board. It is you guys that make the club what it is.

Finally, I will be running the last derby of the year. It is a 2 man event that starts at 5:30. Teams are determined using your handicaps. Highest plays with lowest and so on. Meet me at the first tee around 5:15 and bring $20 it will include golf and cart.

SEPTEMBER 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in the restaurant/bar and not the Big White Tent, which was taken over by interlopers (obviously with more money than us). The pre-meeting dinner was the standard beef fajitas and cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, salad, chips and salsa – nothing special this month.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Richard Scoville and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.

The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

There were no new members present.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Partner/Partner Tournament. They include: Saturday – CTP on # 3,9, and 12, and in the circle(A&B Flights)/on the green (C Flight) on #17; Sunday – Bookends (net par or better on #1,9,10 and 18),North of Willow (net par or better on # 4,5,6 and 7), and a $10 Skin Game .Omar also announced Golfer of the Month winners: Tom Retterath with a Gross 72 and Dave Chamberlain with a Net 65.

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that the next away tournament is September 30th at Lakewood. Cost is $75 plus $10 for prizes. After a lively discussion, it was decided to play from the WHITE tees. The Weekender will be October 27-29 at San Vicente and available spots are filling up fast. Next year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin in April.

Director Mike Vaughn announced that the Flights Tournament is underway with all first round matches completed. The Finals will be held on November 4. The pre-meeting Putting Contest (Aces only) was a tie between Matt Williams and Mike Roddy. Mike noted that there will be a Putting Contest before the next meeting.

Director Mike Montgomery communicated like never before in announcing the winners of the Senior Championship. They included Jim Fuchs in the Championship Bracket, Dan Pearson in the A Flight, and Paul Standish in the B Flight. Congratulations to my fellow geezers.

Director Jerry Leininger reminded us Do Not Post Saturday’s round but post Sunday’s round as a Tournament Round from the white tees.

VP Cliff Aichele discussed the format for the Partner Tournament this month. Saturday’s front 9 will be a scramble, and the back 9 will be a crossover. Sunday’s front 9 will be best ball, and the back 9 will be count-em-all. Next month is the Dreaded Orange Ball Tournament. When you sign up, indicate the order in which your team members will play.

Director Bob Livingstone noted that one of our Member/Member winning teams (Josh Castlen and Corey Smith) are advancing in the SCGA Tournament, while our other representative team (Matt Williams and Matt Mendenhall) didn’t quite make the cut. Bob reminded everyone to sign your scorecards or get DQed (ask Dennis Tramer about this). Bob also discussed the current status of various bunkers (never to be referred to as traps) at EL Do and how we will play them while under renovation.

Nick Zamora announced that there will be a Derby before next month’s meeting. See Nick asap to sign up. He noted that sign-ups for Team Play will begin soon. See Dennis (for Thursday Team Play) or Omar (for Saturday Team Play). Nick also noted that finalists in the Senior Club Championship and the Club Championship will have a play-off to see who represents El Do in the upcoming SCGA Tournament.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Terry Fulford announced the slate of officers for next year as recommended by the nominating Committee. They include President – Cliff Aichele; Vice-President – Dennis Tramer; Secretary – Rob Kuehn; Treasurer – Bob Livingstone; and Directors – Matt Huntington and Mike Vaughn. Additional nominations will be taken from the floor at the October Meeting, and voting will take place at the November meeting.

The $50 drawing winner was Tim Braswell, who moved pretty quickly to get his check from Livy. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.

Welcome to the arrival of the Witching season. October weather is almost always nice. Flight Championships have moved to the semi-final stages with all of the September matches having been played. October rounds puts the remaining (20) players head-to-head seeking their opportunity to advance to “Championship Saturday” November 4. Your Matches are to be played at your 6-month LI the day of your match, or your Revised Index as provided by the Handicap Committee, whichever is lowest. Once again recommending you review the Rules of Golf for Match Play to familiarize yourself with the applications and penalties that are different from Stoke Play in a number of situations.

We have semi-final times reserved at 8:04 for Sunday October 15 (filled), 8:04 and 8:12 for Saturday October 21 (filled) and 8:04 and 8:12 for Sunday October 22. These times are for match placement. All semi-finals matches should be played absolutely NLT Sunday October 29 as Championship Saturday is the next Saturday, November 4. As normal, matches scheduled for those days will be advised to the participants on Wednesday evening of those weeks via email communication. Any times not filled will be returned to American Golf on Wednesday evening of those weeks.

The Putting Tournament in September was an “Aces Only” event. In a three way tie for 2nd place for $15 each with (4) Aces were Jeff DeGraaff, Corey Smith and Greg Englant. Tying for 1st place and $30 each with (5) Aces were Mike Roddy and Matt Williams. Mark your iPhone and desktop calendars to be at the course meeting night Tuesday October 10 to participate in the last Putting Tournament for 2017. Expect small enhancement in effort to create a larger prize pool. The contest will be under way by around 5:30 on the south green.

I look forward to running the Putting Tournament and Quad Club again next year.

This is late I know, I know. But just a reminder on Golfer of the month to use your 6 month L.I. handicap, I had to make a correction or two, but the right people won even with adjustments. October will be the last month for the 9 hole tournament and we will be playing the blue tees for once. Always let me know if you have any GOM questions or how to fill out a card. There are examples in the pro shop of correct scorecards for GOM. Congrats to Omar Diaz and David Lee for winning in September.

Gentlemen, th Sign up sheet is in the hallway for anyone interested in trying out for Thursday Team Play. The cost is $360 which is paid before the first match. Anyone not playing a match will receive a $55 refund within 10 days. We will have 2 tryout rounds one on November 16th and one on December 7th.

Remember you have to have a LI with the SCGA - You must have played 20 rounds in the past calander year (2017) & we have a club rule you must have played in 3 Men's Club events the past year.

The September, two-day, Partner tournament went off without any hiccups or hitches. As always Livy did a fantastic job with the scoreboard, and the Board members all pitched in to make things go nice and smooth. It looked to me like everyone had a great time, win or lose. We had had a total of 56 teams, paying points down to eighth place in all three flights, and first and second gross in A-Flight. Marc Lilleberg and Ted Embry won A-Flight gross. Maybe Marc should spend a little more time taking care of the golf course and less time playing it. Brian Ball with Matt McGwire won A-Flight net. Team Creighton-Hodge won B-Flight, which is no surprise since earlier this year Hodge won his flight in the Club Championship. Cary Thomason and Danny Martin won C-Flight. I would also like to give an honorable mention to father-son team Huntington/Huntington for taking second place in C-flight. Way to go guys!

Get ready because October means one thing: The DREADED ORANGE BALL is coming your way! Saturday, October 14th is the date. Make sure and get your Orange Ball lineups turned into me no later than meeting night, so I can have your score card ready on game day. For all the new members here’s how it works: each 5-man team gets 3 Orange Balls. Starting on the first hole, player #1 gets the Orange Ball and has to play it tee to green, and hole out with it. The team score is the Orange Ball plus the next two best scores. Then on the second hole, player #2 gets the Orange Ball and so forth and so on. I will pay 1-gross spot and at minimum 3 net spots in each flight. Remember you get 3 Orange Balls and have to return at least one Orange Ball to avoid being disqualified. Bringing your own Orange Balls are NOT allowed!!

Following the General Meeting on Tuesday, October 14th I’ll be taking signups for the November 18th Superintendent’s Revenge tournament. This one is lots of fun so come out and play El Dorado from spots you might not ever have played from before.

Greetings fellow golfers and weekend buddies.
Our last away trip was September 30th at Lakewood, it was a gorgeous day and some guys brought their best game. Our gross winner was Chris Mcmonigle with a score of 73 and our net winner was Dan Pearson with a 66. First place team was Terry Fulford's team, second place Tom Montgomery's team and third place Richard Lizardi's team.

For all those players that have played four away tournaments you can check the website and look for the Little Brown Jug and see if your name is on the top 10.

Our next away trip is to San Vicente, October 27-29, thanks to all the ones participating, it looks like we ran out of rooms.

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to November where we get to enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie and of course, winter golf. We are in the finals of match play, the beginning of team play tryouts, and the Super’s Revenge on Nov.18th. See your Tournament Director, Cliff Aichele, for all the information regarding this tournament and the Christmas Tournament on Dec. 16th. There is a lot of good prizes in that one.

We will be voting for a few Board of Directors this meeting. Come put your vote on and support your club.

OCTOBER 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in the Big White Tent (no conflicting evening weddings this month). The pre-meeting dinner was the Italian Special prepared by Chef Luigi (also known as Bing) Smith – Caesar salad, garlic bread, sausage & peppers, roasted zucchini, beef ravioli, cheese tortellini, marinara sauce, alfredo sauce, grated parmesan, drink and a desert. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Notably no one took a knee.

There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison, and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. New member Daniel Kletke introduced himself to the group.
The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month’s Orange Ball Tournament. They include skins, Orange Ball skins (on your first three Orange Ball holes only), and second shot in the circle (A and B Flights) or on the green (C Flight) on Hole # 14. Omar noted that Saturday Team Play tryouts will be November 11, December 2 and December 9. There is a sign-up sheet in the hallway or you can contact Omar via the Eldo website.

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that the Lakewood Away Tournament only had 50 participants, less than our usual turnout. It must have been the long commute that kept folks away. The Weekender October 27-29 at San Vicente is completely full. Next year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin in April. Lucero reminded everyone that if you sign up for an Away Tournament, you must show up. If you don’t, you still have to pay or you won’t be allowed to play in any future club events.

Director Jerry Leininger announced the winner of the Most Improved Golfer for the 3rd quarter as Charlie Kerr – it took four decimal places to determine who won. Good job Charlie (and Jerry for your Math skills). Jerry explained the qualification requirements to be considered for the award. Jerry also discussed posting of scores when you do not complete a full 18 hole round.

Director Terry Fulford announced the slate of officers for next year as recommended by the nominating Committee. They include President – Cliff Aichele; Vice-President – Dennis Tramer; Secretary – Rob Kuehn; Treasurer – Bob Livingstone; and Directors – Matt Huntington and Mike Vaughn. No additional nominations were proposed from the floor. Voting will take place at the November meeting.

VP Cliff Aichele discussed the format for Orange Ball Tournament this month. Each team receives 3 orange balls and you must return at least one at the end of the round. The November 18th tournament is the ever-challenging Superintendent’s Revenge.

Director Matt Huntington announced the surprise winner of the 9 Hole Tournament – Dennis (I never win anything) Tramer. GOM awards went to David Lee (Net 65) and Omar Diaz (Gross 75). Matt noted that very few cards were turned in, and even fewer were filled out properly. Why you guys can’t follow the example card posted in the Pro Shop speaks volumes as to the average IQ of the Men’s Club members.

Director Dennis Tramer noted that Thursday Team Play tryouts will be November 16 and December 7. Teams in our bracket include Industry Hills, Lakewood and Las Verdes.

Secretary/Membership Director Rob Kuehn explained how annual renewals are now being handled directly by SCGA. Everyone will receive email notifications from SCGA 60 days prior to expiration of your current membership. If you do not have an email address, you will receive a snail mail reminder. For most of us, these notifications will go out on November 1. Simply renew on line – very easy and quick. If you have no email/computer/credit card, you must go to the Pro Shop, completely fill out a Renewal Card, write a check, put both in an envelope, and place the envelope in the drawer. Renewals are $110 and must be completed prior to December 15th to remain on the roster for 2018. Those failing to renew on time will be dropped from the roster and will need to apply as a new member ($130 fee) after January 1st.

Nick Zamora announced the winners of the year’s final derby as Mike Roddy and Larry Bartley – again. Quite a team.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Cary/Cory/Corky/Crusty Thomasen thanked the Board for their hard work throughout the year.

The $50 drawing winner was James Coates. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.

The October Putting contest was the last one for this year, it was a “Count them all”. There was a 4-way tie at 2-under for 2nd place between Greg Englant, Sebastian Sturdevant, Carey Thomason and Josh Castlen taking 10 skins each. Rolling a 3-under round 1st place went to Matt Williams with 40 skins. The Putting tournament is always fun.

In 2018 we host the Quad Club. I will be starting to put this team together the first part of next year.

Well another month is gone and we are down to only 2 more winners for Golfer of the Month. For the Net prize there is a redemption story so to speak. Mike Drew actually won earlier this year but did not fill the card out correctly so he was disqualified. This month he won net for filling the card out correctly and for a buddy of mine filling out the GOM card incorrectly. Mike Belcher actually would have won net with a 69 but he did not sign the card, no one attested the card and there was no date on the card. Mike, thank you for filling out correctly and you win with a 70 which is the highest net score to win. Ryan Boyker had a very nice Gross 69 but he was absolutely demolished by Mr. Steve Friend with a 67, great round Steve.
There is no 9-hole tournament this month as we are in the Dark Ages again. See you all at the meeting.

The October Orange Ball reminded me of a few girlfriends I had growing up… it dumped me right when I thought things were going great, and the next thing I know, I’m making bogeys left and right. Orange Ball; can’t live with it, can’t live without it! On the other hand, when it all goes right the Orange Ball can be your best friend and bring you wonderful rewards. If you take a look at the results you will see lots of familiar names in the points. Such as the Huntington/ Diaz group in A-Flight who won gross, and Mark Schmillen, Charlie Waters, John Hasselman, Tom Turner and Mike Filbey who took the A-Flight net. The young guns Matt Williams, Dan Hertzler, Ryan Huff, Trevor Moore and Michael Belcher won B-Flight gross and George Manyak’s crew won B-Flight net. One of the more experienced groups was Dan Pearson, Dave Garcia, Jim Ridenour, Terry Fulford and Mark “Ziggy” Ziegenhagen who won C-Flight gross, while Matt Palma’s team won C-Flight net. The Orange Ball must have been sweet on these guys because it sure treated them right.

Coming up Saturday, November 18th is the Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. We’re going to just have to wait and see what diabolical set-up Marc Lilleberg has in store for us. It was a lot of fun last year and a welcome change from the same old course set-up, and we’re really looking forward to it. There’s still plenty of room, so shoot me an email, give me a call or text me if you’re interested in playing.

Yep, it’s the end of the year already! At the end of our General Meeting on Tuesday 11/14, I’ll be taking signups for the Christmas Shotgun; the last tournament of 2017. This will be MY last tournament as your VP/Tournament Director. I’m going to pass the baton to Dennis Tramer. This will be Dennis’s second go-around as VP, so we should all be very grateful that he thinks so much of the club, that he is willing to be VP again. Thanks a bunch, Dennis!

Remember to qualify to play in the Christmas Tournament you must have played in at least 3 El Dorado Men’s Golf Club events in the last year. Don’t make me the bad guy because you’re not eligible to play since you don’t have the 3 events needed. If you are unsure, you can always check the web site to see the how many events you’ve played this year. The cost is $70 to walk and $85 with a cart. The format will be 3-man teams, 2 best ball paired with another 3-man team to form 6-somes. We will have a shotgun start at 7:30am. After play is completed and you have turned in your scorecard, the golf course is ours for the day. You’re free to play any part of the course you want if you’re not already playing in one of the derbys.

Hello Gentlemen and Happy Holidays,

Time really flies when you are having fun. I never knew how fast 2 years would come and go. It was a real pleasure working for you guys the last 20 years. But all good things must come to an end. NOVEMBER 2017 MEETING MINUTES

The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was the every other month standard Mexican fare of salad, tortillas, chips, salsa, rice, beans, cheese enchiladas, chicken fajitas, drink and a desert.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Nick Zamora, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Once again no one took a knee. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Terry Fulford, Dennis Tramer, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Tom Conlisk, Tom Retterath, Dick Scoville and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.

President Zamora informed the membership that long time member Ken Louie had recently passed away, finally losing his courageous battle with cancer. Ken and his wife had attended the Weekender just a couple weeks ago. Ken may not have been the best golfer in the club, but he was certainly one of the best guys, and certainly will be missed.


The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.

Several new members (and a couple of re-joining old members) introduced themselves. New members include Mike Wilson, C.J. Triola, and Joe Lederer. Returning members (voices from the past) include Mel Collins and Brian Gonzales.

Past President Terry Fulford announced that there were no additional members interested in serving on the Board of Directors other than the slate as recommended by the Board. By acclamation the Board for 2018 will include Cliff Aichele as President, Dennis (just call me stupid for doing this again) Tramer as Vice President/Tournament Chairman, Rob Kuehn as Secretary, Bob Livingstone as Treasurer, and Mike Vaughn and Matt Huntington as Directors.

Directors’ Reports were as follow:

Special Events Director Omar Diaz announced the events for this month Superintendent’s Revenge tournament. They include skins, the Triple Turkey (net par or better on Holes 3,4,5,9,10,11,16,17 and 18), Closest to the Pin on Hole #12, and second shot in the circle (A and B Flights) or on the green (C Flight) on Hole # 6. Omar noted that final Saturday Team Play tryouts will be December 2 and December 9. There is a sign-up sheet in the hallway or you can contact Omar via the Eldo website.

Entertainment Director Lucero noted that the Weekender October 27-29 at San Vicente was lots of fun for all who attended. Next year the Weekender will be held in Laughlin on April 6-8 so reserve the dates now. Other Away Tournaments will include Mile Square, San Juan Hills, Rec Park, Los Verdes, and Lakewood.

Director Mike Vaughn announced the Flights Tournament (Match Play) winners as Ryan Boyker, Mark Ziggenhagen, Brian Dauk, Bill Walton, and Dennis Smith. Mike reminded everyone that Eldo will host the Quad Club on April 28th.

Director Jerry Leininger announced that the Board will be posting the scores for this month’s tournament. Do NOT post your own score. Jerry also reminded everyone to renew their membership on line if they haven’t already done so.

VP Cliff Aichele discussed this month’s Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament. It’s a three best ball event, with starting times from 6:24-11:15. Course Superintendent Marc Lilliberg has promised us a layout we’ll long remember – and hate. The December tournament is a Shotgun. We have the course for the entire day. Sign-up slips are available in the Pro Shop and on line at the club website. If you haven’t already, sign up for one of the post-tournament derbies. They’re lots of fun (and can be quite remunerative).

Director Matt Huntington announced GOM award winners for October. Gross winner was Steve Friend with a nice 67 (Steve shot his age!!) and Net winner was Mike Drew with a 70. Once again failure to properly fill out the scorecard figured in determining the winners. Some guys just don’t get it.

Director Dennis Tramer noted that Thursday Team Play will be playing from the White tees this year. Clubs in our bracket include Industry Hills, Lakewood and Los Verdes. Contact Dennis if you’re interested.

Secretary/Membership Director Rob Kuehn again urged everyone to renew on line if you haven’t done so already. It’s very easy and quick. If you have no email/computer/credit card, you must go to the Pro Shop, completely fill out a Renewal Card, write a check, put both in an envelope, and place the envelope in the drawer.

Old Business: There was no Old Business.

New Business: Bob Livingstone noted that Larry Darlak had finished 5th in the SCGA Senior Amateur Net Championship. Good job Larry. Livy also noted that our own Jerry Leininger has been selected by the SCGA as the Handicap Chairman of the Year. Awesome!! Congratulations Jerry – for taking on a task that most of wouldn’t want to do (or have an idea how to do it) and for doing a great job of it.

The $50 drawing winner was Alan Reinking. The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.

Wow, it is almost December already. The Flight Championship matches were played in November. The Winners and Runner-ups were President; Ryan Boyker def Grant Wilson 2&1, Vice President; Mark Ziegenhagen def Colin Boylan 1-up, Secretary; Brian Dauk def Jeff Benedetti 3&2, Treasurer; Bill Walton def George Manyak 3&2, and Director; Dennis Smith def Lloyd Lee 2&1. Trophies and prize money will be presented to the winners at the January General Meeting on Tuesday January 9, 2018. Monetary awards will be presented to the Runner ups as well as those who made it to the semi-finals where their journey ended there. Be sure to be at the meeting.

It is exciting thinking about serving the Club in this same position in 2018. Setting up our Quad Club team, holding the Putting Tournaments, and finishing the year with the Flight Match Play Championships is what it is all about.

Quad Club will be played Saturday April 28, 201 at El Dorado. Tee times normally start at 7:00 am. As implemented last in 2016 to meet the City of Long Beach stipulations to have this annual event Quad Club teams were reduced from 40 players to 25. Players who won 3 points at Lakewood have anchored spots on the 2018 team and will be given first dibs. Other members who scored well or have the potential to score well will be recruited to put together a team to win the Quad Club trophy back to be placed in our trophy case!

Well the year is almost over and the scorecards that we’re turned in for November were damn near perfect and I thank all of you. Some good scores in Gross with Eric Miller taking the homers with a 35-37=72!! Great work Eric and good to have ya back. Me. Mike Vaughn turned in an amazing Net 62 to blow the field away, Mikey V nice round buddy, Jerry might be giving you a call though (HAAAAAA)

Hope to see everyone at the meeting for a fun time and an always good raffle. For those of you I do not see, happy holidays, and if you don’t celebrate...happy time off work.

GENTLEMEN, Tryouts for Thursday Team are going well as we have 30 participants trying out. This is a good thing after last year's debacle when I even had to recruit "TinMan" Fulford to play a match. Looking forward to next year (NOT) as VP. Take it easy on me as I am a lot older this time around. I will be taking signups for the Scramble at the December meeting.

I hope all of you had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday, and had a chance to enjoy family and friends. During the long weekend I reviewed the November results, and I guess I’ll have to have a talk with Superintendent Marc Lilleberg and see if he can come up with a little tougher set up for next year’s Superintendent Revenge tournament! Out of a field of 164 players, 73 guys shot net 76 or better. That’s close to half the field! Low scores usually equal fun so lots of you must have had a great time. I was also surprised to see that the power house team headed by Brian “Gonzo” Gonzales didn’t win A-Flight gross… but that’s what happened! Brian Dauk put together his own power house team that included Eugene Milner, Jim Fuchs, Mike Berka and Monte Bisson. These guys had no problem winning A-Flight gross shooting a 1 under par, 215 total. Director Mike Vaughn shot lights out and led his group to a C-Flight victory. Way to go Mike! Good to see you back in the winner’s circle. You can check out all of the results on our website by clicking on the results tab.

Coming up on Saturday, December 16th is our famous Christmas Shotgun tournament. We play this tournament in 6-sums. The format is a 3-man, 2 best ball, played to your 6-month LI as of December 1st. There are still plenty of spots and time to get your group signed up. Forms are available in the pro shop or on the website. You can also contact me directly to assist you. This will be a shot gun start, kicking off promptly at 7:30 am. Do what you can to pay ahead of time, otherwise you’ll have to pay an extra $5 on tournament day. It’ll be a madhouse at the course getting everyone checked in, so please do your best to be early. Doors open at 6am! General Manager Rick Crowder does a great job making sure food and drinks are available first thing, and that we are well taken care of. We buy the course for the entire day, so it’s just us El Dorado Men’s Club Members. We always have loads of fun.
Don’t miss out on the Tuesday, December 12th General Meeting and raffle extravaganza. It’s hard to leave without winning at least one thing at this raffle. Following the meeting, Dennis Tramer -our new repeat VP/Tournament Chairman- will be taking signups for the January 5-man scramble.

Lastly, as my time as VP/Tournament Chairman comes to an end, I just want to say thanks to everyone. Over the last 2 years, I’ve had a chance to get better aquatinted with so many of you and it’s been a real pleasure. I want to thank Dennis Tramer for taking over the position of VP/Tournament Chairman; his commitment to our club is something we should all be grateful for. I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years as president of the best men’s club in southern California.
