President's Corner
Congratulations to the ElDo staff for hosting the 2015 Long Beach Open. The course was in great shape , thanks to Mark Lilleberg and his crew for all there hard work. We had 4 teams participate in the Pro/Am, and nobody cashed, I think team Russell, Zamora and Billy J. lost in a card off for the last paying slot. Baggers from Lakewood won the net flight with a score of 118.
Flights matches begin this month. If you are signed up, it is your responsibility to ensure that you get your first match completed by the end of August.
The Red, White and Blue tournament was held in July and it seems that everybody had a good time. This is one of only a few tournaments I can remember that got rain. I was not here but I heard it rained pretty hard for a time. Thanks to most of the groups for hanging in and playing through the rain.
Don't forget to get a partner for the Partner/Partner Tournament coming up in September, this is also a very fun tournament with some different formats.
Senior Club Championship is coming up, check Dennis Tramer he is running that for me.
Reminder, Board of Director (BOD) elections will be held in November. If you are interested in running for an elected or appointed BOD position, please let a current BOD member know. We always encourage new ideas and new guys to the BOD, that helps keep the club moving forward.
As always, your Board of Directors is open to suggestions on ways to make the club better. If you have a great idea, please let us know.
See ya at the course,
Terry Fulford
President
Meeting Minutes
JULY 2015 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men's Golf Club was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included tri-tip, grilled chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, grilled veggies, salad, dessert and a drink, all for $7. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Terry Fulford, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 90 members in attendance, including Past Presidents Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Dick Scoville, Steve Shure, Tom Conlisk, Rich Dennison, and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. There were no new members present.
The previous month's Minutes and Treasurer's Report were approved. President Fulford reminded all that the July Tournament is to be held on Saturday, July 18, not Sunday, July 19, as shown on the schedule card. Terry also requested a moment of silence in remembrance of Horace Brewster, a long-time member who recently passed away due to an auto accident. There will be a celebration of Horace's life here at El Dorado on July 24th at 5:30 pm. Terry congratulated Tom Seidl, who won the B Flight in the Long Beach City Tournament. Also representing El Do in the Tournament were Bill Walton, Larry Bartley, and Ross Ricks.
Directors' Reports were as follow:
SCGA Representative/Handicap Chairman Jerry Leininger once again reminded everyone to post your score within 48 hours of playing a round or you will be assessed a penalty round equal to your lowest round of your latest 20 rounds.
Director Mike Montgomery announced that he will be selling Raffle Tickets for the Long Beach Open tonight. Participant tickets for this prestige event are $350 and raffle tickets are only $5. The drawing will be held immediately following the meeting tonight.
Special Events Director Matt Huntington announced the events for this month's tournament. In addition to Skins, we'll have CTP on #17 for the three closest in each flight (with a 50/50 split for the Wounded Warriors), Honeypot - net 70 or better, and second shot In the Circle for A and B Flight on the "new" #6 green (or just on the green for C Flight). Matty also noted that in order to avoid a potential nationwide envelope shortage, he will never again have Net Par or Better on either the Front or Back 9.
Entertainment Director Jim Ridenour announced that our next Away Tournament on August 1 at Los Verdes is nearly full with just a few singles available. Contact Jim if you're interested.
Director Mike Vaughn announced that the Flights (Match Play) Championship would begin in August and finish in November. Spots are filling up fast, so contact Mike asap if you're interested in playing in this fun event.
The Putting contest this week had 18 participants, with 10 players cashing. Winner was George Lanese with 4 Aces.
Director Cliff Aichele announced the June Golfer of the Month winners - Byron Brno with a Gross 71 and Pete Douglas with a Net 63. Looks like our Handicap Chairman will be paying a visit to Pete's index. Beating out 16 other golfers, the winner of the Nine Hole Tournament was Joey Schilling, narrowly edging Pete Douglas (see what I mean?) and Dennis Tramer.
Tournament Chairman/VP Nick Zamora reminded everyone that when you sign up for a tournament, you are responsible for all 5 players in you group showing up and paying. Our July Tournament is the Red/White/Blue, and you will post a White Tee score. First time is 6:30 and we're very full. The August Tournament on 8/15 is 3 Best Ball, and September 12-13 is the Partner-Partner.
Special Projects Director Dennis Tramer announced the Winners of the Club Championship and awarded the prizes. See Dennis' article below. He noted that the Senior Club Championship will be held August 29-30.
Bob Livingstone, filling in for Rules Chairman Mike Moraitis, reminded us how important it is to fill out your scorecard neatly and accurately. You are responsible for your own scorecard, and once it's turned in, it's official. No mulligans.
Old Business: Steve Shure thanked everyone for their support in our Wounded Warrior fund-raising effort. Steve had hoped to collect $1,000 but due to your generosity has collected more than $2,500. He plans to collect another fund-raiser in the fall, this time for the Children's Cancer Fund.
New Business: There was no New Business.
The $50 drawing winner was Michael Callahan. The meeting was adjourned at 7:35. The Long Beach Open Drawing winners were Jim Lenahan, Rich Gilmore, and Tom Herrin.

Director Report
Welcome to August! Our annual single elimination Match play" Flight Championship tournament is underway and by meeting night a good share of the 40 first round matches will have been played. Just a reminder, the match for each month is to be played between the first and last day of each month. Matches are to be played at your 6 month LI the day of your match. However if you have an R or Reduced index in effect during this period that is the handicap you are to play the match. Elimination matches will be played in August and September with the semi-finals in October. Championship Saturday is scheduled of November 7. If for any reason you and your opponent need to play your month's match during the first week of the next month the players must contact me with the reason it could not be played before months end for special consideration. Failure to do this will result in disqualification of both players. A word to the wise is to review the Rules of Golf 2012-2015 for Match Play as applications and penalties are different from Stoke Play in a number of situations.
We have excellent tee time reservations on several Saturday and Sunday mornings of each month. American Golf has granted Flights Match participants to play their rounds at Resident rate. These times will be made known to all participants via continual email communication. If you want to play your match during one of these times you will need to let me know NLT than Wednesday afternoon of that week as times not filled will be returned to American Golf on Wednesday night to avoid us being responsible for unfilled reservations.
The cups were placed in a favorable layout on the south green to do an Aces Only event. A group of six (6), Corey Smith, Larry Bartley, Greg Englant, Kevin Bartley, Byron Brno and Steven Whitaker sunk (2) aces and tied for 3rd place, getting back 3 bones. Scott Chamberlain, Bruce Bates and Kirk Jondle each drained (3) aces and tying for 2nd and 16 bones each. George Lanese went one better and rolled in four (4) for the win and took home 57 bones. Mark your iPhone calendars to be at the course meeting night Tuesday August 11 to roll you best putts on the fun and challenging layout. The contest will be under way by or shortly after 5:30 on the south green.
See you there,
Mike Vaughn
Director Report 2
Flights Matches start this month, and that means competition will be heating up figuratively and literately. I may have said this before and Ill say it again, I think the head-to-head competition match play offers is the most exciting way to play the game of golf! I must not be alone because it looks like the Flights Match field is full again for 2015. Here are some things to consider when youre whipping up on your opponent. If you shoot an exceptional round during a Flights match you can turn it in for GOM. Just make sure to follow the guidelines enacted at the Beginning in 2014: Rounds played in the Flights Matches may be submitted for consideration for GOM, provided the player verifies that any concessions were minimal in both occurrence and length of shot. Last but not least, do what you have to do in order to stay hydrated on the course. Its going to be a cooker this month. Looking forward to seeing all of you at our general meeting and especially on tournament day.
As always Hit It Close and Go Lower
