Welcome to 2012! A new year reminds us of what tremendous possibility lays in front of us! We all have an opportunity to ensure that 2012 is a Great year for our Men’s club. We have 2 exciting tournaments planned for January. We have an away trip to San Clemente and we have our Scramble tournament. Please contact Greg Englant for the away trip and Terry Fulford for our home tournament!
Also, both Thursday & Saturday Team Play matches start this month! Best of luck to both of our Teams! First goal is to qualify for the playoffs and then onto the winners circle!
I’d like to welcome our two new members to the Board – Greg Englant & Cliff Aichele. I look forward to working with the entire Board to ensure that all of our club activities continue to be best that we can do. Also, I’d like to recognize both Bret Holloway and Mark Ziegenhagen for their past contributions to the Board. Here’s to a great 2012!!
We had a very nice weather day for our Annual Christmas Day tournament. The course was in good winter condition. The scoring was a little below average, maybe too much holiday partying for our men’s club members!!!
Here’s some solid individual scores that I’m sure our new handicap chairman Jerry Leininger will be looking at!! Ron McBride with a Net 63, Lloyd Lee net 64, Dave Hasselman net 66, Chris Plumridge net 67. Overall, we had 14 players breaking Net 72 in the tournament.
For the team results, Team Vanderbroek winning A flight Gross with Team Jerry Leininger winning A flight Net. We had Team Ron McBride winning B flight Gross with Team Dave Ahmadi winning B flight Net. We had Team Sturdevant winning C flight Gross with the winning combination of Team Martin winning C flight Net.
I’d like to thank the entire Board for helping out in our pre-tournament signups in order for the shotgun to start on time. One more thing, it really did help having the membership pay their entry fees on-time. We only had a handful of players that ended up paying the extra $5 surcharge for not paying on-time. I truly hope this is something that will continue to happen in 2012.
This was the last Men’s club home tournament that I will be running since Terry Fulford is now our new VP/Tournament Chairman for 2012. I’m sure that Terry will do an excellent job in this new role and will continue to provide great tournaments for the upcoming year for our membership. To help Terry out, please pay on-time and play fast on the course!!!
Thank you!

DECEMBER 2011 MEETING MINUTES
The final monthly meeting of 2011 of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in the big white tent. The pre-meeting Christmas Feast included Ham, Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, three Salads, Rolls and Desert. Quite a deal.
The meeting was called to order at 7:01PM by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were approximately 125 members present, including Past Presidents Rich Dennison, Don Marmion, Jerry Leininger, Tom Conlisk, Steve Shure and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone.
The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Three new members – Bruce Smith, Lucero Prisciliano and Greg Ramsey- introduced themselves and were taken on a tour of the facilities by Jerry Leininger, who also taught them the secret El Do handshake.
Committee reports were as follow:
Rich Dennison (Special Events): December will be played at L.I.. Special events will include net 71 or better and Closest to the Pin on # 3 and # 12.

He then introduced his successor- Greg Englant- who discussed upcoming away trips, including San Clemente on 1/8/12 ($70 including cart). Nick also discussed Saturday Team Play, which starts officially on January 14th at Lakewood. Nick has 22 players signed up, which he’ll reduce to 16 for the Team Play season. Saturday Team will play Thursday Team soon, as a warm-up.
Bob Livingstone (Handicap Chairman): Bob reported that our own Larry Grant won the SCGA Senior Championship with a 71 at Seacliff Country Club. Congratulations Larry.
Terry Fulford (GOM): November GOM honors went to Mark Perry (Gross 70) and Nick Zamora (Net 65.5). Get ready to see Nick’s name in this category often, as he is responsible for determining GOM for 2012.
Mel Collins (Thursday Team Play): Mel thanked everyone for their past support, and promised a winning team for 2012.
Ron Mahaffey (Head Greenskeeper of El Do): Ron fielded questions regarding course conditions and discussed steps taken to improve drainage, especially after rain. He is looking at various options regarding coots.
Tom Retterath (V.P. / Tournament Chairman): Tom discussed the December 19th 7:30AM Shotgun Tournament, and noted that Terry Fulford (V.P. / Tournaments for 2012) would be taking signups for the January Scramble (1/15/12).

There was no Old Business. New Business: Dennis introduced Tom Retterath as President for 2012, and also introduced all of the 2012 Officers/ Directors. Bob Livingstone made a motion that Dennis Tramer be granted free lifetime membership as a Past President. The motion was unanimously approved. Dennis expressed his thanks to all of the 2010 and 2011 Board members, especially Treasurer Bret Holloway.
The “must be present to win” drawing (worth $100) was won by William Walton. The $50 “draw till there’s a winner” went to Don Didier. Both pots will be $50 in January.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50, at which time the annual December Raffle began.
Terry Fulford
VP & Tournament Chairman
Well here I go on my new adventure as a member of El Dorado Board Of Directors as V.P.& Tournament Chairman. Having to follow Tom is going to be hard as he was so good with the computer and I
am still in the Ice
Age with my knowledge. Thanks to Tom as he left me with all the forms he
produced to try and
make it as easy as posible for me. Where is the button to turn on the computer??? So please be
patient with
me for first couple of months, but I am sure I will figure it out.
January we have the Scramble with a modified handicap 0-3 (0), 4-6 (.5), 7-9 (1), 10-12 (1.5), 13-
15 (2), 16-18 (2.5), 19-21 (3), 22-24 (3.5), 25 and above (4), with 3 drives per player. I still have room
for a group
or 2 and singles so let me know. Please try to pay prior to day of tournament by putting money in
drawer in
pro shop, mailing to my home ( 5671 Nevada Drive, Huntington Beach, 92647) or PO box. Don't
mail after
Monday prior to tourmament day. Fee on day of tournament is an additional $5 ($60) before is
$55.
I will be taking sign ups for February Select Drive on meeting nite, bring money to pay when
signing up and
also I will be taking money for January Scramble. Cost for these are the same as last year $55.
Wishing Everybody A Happy And Healthy New Year.

Golf Commissioner
Meeting was held at the Dept. of Parks, Rec. & Marine offices. Superintendent Livingstone took roll call and confirmed a quorum.
The Capital Improvement Comm. met and discussed project scheduled for 2012. For El Dorado, bunkers, asphalt circle driveway, parking lot lighting, some tees and new roof at snack bar are on the proposed agenda. The other courses having similar projects, main one at Skylinks is new maintenance building.
We are still pursuing a change with the Municipal Code with the City Council. The Commission is proposing the creation of an up to 13-person Golf Advisory Committee reporting top the City Manager through the Dept. of Parks, Rec and Marine. We, the Commission, have basically approved the recommendation but have tabled it, waiting for a more compromising City Manager meeting in January, hopefully to settle this ongoing dilemma. Belated Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year. Hopefully everyone has a prosperous and fun year.

Well we had our first two tournaments in January and both Terry and Greg did a good job with the events! In February, we’ll also have 2 more events. Please try to get both Terry & Greg your signup information as early as possible. It just makes their job a little more easier when they get this information early rather than later. Let’s try to get both of these tournaments filled up so we have lots of good competition in each of these.
Team play is underway and both teams are giving us their best efforts. Reminder, each club member must have played in 3 club events within the past 12 months for our Member/Member, Club Championship, and Christmas tournaments. Everyone might as well participate in our tournaments early in the year so you don’t have to worry about “qualifying” for these “Special tournaments”!!!!
Your 2012 Board is working very hard to continue to make ElDo the best golf club here in SoCal. We have some good things planned for 2012, so please stay tuned!

JANUARY 2012 MEETING MINUTES
The first monthly meeting of 2012 of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included Beef Fajitas, Chile Relleno, Mexican Rice, Refried Beans, Salad and Desert (alas-no Chicken Breast Sandy).
The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by New President Tom Retterath, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Dennis Tramer, Steve Shure, Richard Dennison, Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. Approximately 75 members were present.
President Retterath called for a moment of silence in honor of long time member Robert Maney, who recently passed away. The previous months Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Committee/Director reports were as follow:
Golf Commission Representative Bob Livingstone: Tree trimming will be completed by Monday, January 16. The Long Beach Mayor will be appointing a commission to study/evaluate various golf issues. Firewood is still available- bring your own truck.
SCGA Representative Jerry Leininger: All current SCGA information, schedule of events, etc., is posted in the Hallway and available on the SCGA website. Try to attend one of their Tournaments- they’re a lot of fun.
New Member Ronel Pesigan introduced himself. He is a friend of Sebastian Sturdevant.
Saturday Team Play Captain Mike Montgomery: Events start this next weekend. In a “tune up,” the Saturday Team beat the Thursday Team last weekend.
Rules Chairman Rich Dennison: Two new rules to note: (1) If a ball moves after you address it through no fault of yours (i.e., wind blows it) you play it where it now lies and there is no penalty; (2) if your ball is in a sand trap you can rake the trap (to get rid of footprints, etc.) before you hit as long as you don’t improve your lie, stance or line of flight.
Special Events Cliff Aichele: Don’t forget the 3 month limit to pick up any winnings from the Box. Don’t forget to report skins, etc., at the Scorer’s Table at the end of your round. For the January scramble we’ll have Closest to the Pin on #3 and #17 (all Flights), and Greens in Regulation on the Par 3’s- A&B Flites need 3, and C Flight needs 2.
Entertainment Greg Englant: San Clemente was last weekend- windy but a good day. See website for complete details. February is Soboba Springs (2/12/12).
Golfer of the Month Nick Zamora: December GOM Gross was Ron McBride with a 71. Net was a tie between Dave (Ugh) Hasselman and Lloyd Lee, which Lloyd won on the 5th tiebreaker. Both had a net 67.5. The Golfer of the Year Tournament will be in March (or later if our Thursday and Saturday Teams do well). This year GOM will be based on LI.
Quad Club/Flights Mike Vaughn: The Quad Club Tournament is April 28th at Lakewood. Let’s do better than our last place finish in 2011.
VP/Tournament Chairman Terry Fulford: January is a Scramble- minimum of 3 drives each using a modified handicap system. Pay tonight or pay $5 extra on Sunday- this is our new policy for the year.
There was no Old of New Business.
Drawing winners were:
$50 “Must be Present to Win”- Mark Picard- he wasn’t.
$50 “Keep Drawing Until We Have a Winner”- Jim McDavid
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30.
Cliff Aichele
Special Events Chairman
Thanks members for your great participation, even after a little bit of grumbling about the “greens in regulation” special event for the January Scramble I think it turned out very well.
We had five members’ cash in A-Flight, one in B-Flight and two in C-Flight. With these kinds of results I will more than likely use this event again latter in the year with maybe one or two adjustment, setting up either #9 or #12 to play at a little less yardage to give the short knockers a better chance of cashing, would be one possible change.
As always, winners remember to pick up your envelopes from the blue box and better luck next time to everyone else.
Mike Vaughn
Director
Hello everyone, you have my apology for the absence of my article in the January Newsletter. I want to thank all everyone that joined our team for Quad Club, battled mano-o-mano in the Flight championships, and to rolled their luck in the Putting Contest. For what it is worth thank you to everyone in the Club which makes El Dorado Men’s Club the best deal in town.
Trophies and other awards were presented at the December meeting to the winner, runner up, and those eliminated in the semi-final match. The winner received a crystal trophy and 200 bones, the runner-up pocketed 120, and the longest lasting “also ran” each salvaged 50. The results of these brackets are as follows; President: Dave Rubin, Steve Friend, Noah Busch and Eric Miller. Vice President: Chris Benes, Ron Dolbin, Eddie Fernandez, and Greg Andersen. Secretary: Corey Smith, George Manyak, Bill Walton and Marty Suart. Treasurer: Shaun Ferguson, Ron Moore, Peter Grant and Jack McCarthy (enjoy Florida, Jack). Director: Wayne Setinek, Jerry Hodge, Danny Martin and Randy Wold.
2012 Quad Club will be held at Lakewood Country Club, Saturday, April 28 with El Dorado hosting the event in 2013. Ink April 28 into your calendar, go to Lakewood, play hard, win 3-points for the team and “lock” your roster spot for Quad Club at home. All 3-pointt winners at Recreation Park in 2011 already have their spot locked with the incentive offered at that time.
Be ready for Daylight Saving Time. I will be hosting the Putting Tournament on the south green. This is always a good game with a variation from the month before. It will run from 5:15 and 6:45 on the south green. Be sure to get to El Dorado early those nights to take your chances at scoring the least (or most) points.
The first matches of the Flight championship can be played starting August 1 with all matches complete NLT August 31, with each round being playable between the first and last day of that month. Handicap tused for each match will be your active LI. Rules of Competition for this event will be posted on the bulletin board as well as on our website before any play commences so everyone has the same access to this information. Entry will be the standard $20 per player. However it must be pre-paid before being placed you will be placed on a roster. This is due to the completed brackets must be made available to all players NLT July 31. If your money has not been received by July 20 do come crying to me when you don’t find your name on the bracket.
If ever there is a time you would like to discuss a Club issue I am available.
Let’s have some fun.
Terry Fulford
VP & Tournament Chairman
I was worried that my first tournament was going to get rained out after Tom went through two years with no rain outs, but we got it in and dodged the rain. January Scramble is always a fun tournament. Here are some of the results: A Flight gross was a great 56 (16 under)
for team JVB, net winners were Team Vaughn with a nice 52.5 B Flight gross was team Conlisk (I am sure Mel helped a lot) with 61, net was Team J.D. with 50.5, C Flight gross was team Kerry Bryan with 62, net was team Pearlman with 49.5, the 4 man Teams was won by team McBride with 49.5. All results are posting on the website.
and in the hallway at the club.
On Sunday February 19th we will be having our Select Drive Tournament. We will be using 75% handicap, three drives by each person and three balls will count. Tournament fees are $55 if paid by meeting night on the 14th, if paid after meeting night they will be $60 with the extra $5 going to prize fund. There are still spots for singles in Feb. so please let me know if your interested.
On meeting night February 14th I will be taking sign ups for March 18th Waltz. Fee again is $55, a the least you will need to pay for two spots to secure your spot. Same thing goes for every tournament with regard to the $5 penalty for paying after March 13th meeting.
If you don't pay at the meeting you can mail to my home at 5671 Nevada Dr. Huntington Beach, 92647.
Greg Englant
Entertainment Chairman
Top of the year to you all. I want to thank you from the bottom of the cup for your support and encouragement during the transition from St Nick Zamora to myself.
Last month we were in beautiful San Clemente Golf Course, (not to rub it in, but the scape and transition of terra and fauna was worth the price of admission). The weather was unpredictable yet cooperative, low clouds with wind and conditions like playing on the west coast of Southern California in January in the 70 degree weather. Team Marmion, Sturdevant, Zamora, Fulford had success, Individuals such as Bob Livingstone and grizzled veterans like Wayne Neilson showed their prowess. Newer members Shawn Rippy and Lucero Pisciliano made some noise gaining club credibility.
We have a great away schedule planned for the year. This February the 12t h we are on the short list to play The Golf Club at Soboba Springs, in the gorgeous shadows of the San Jacinto Mountain Range.
The Climate there has a way of perfecting the great day of quality golf. The Tournament will be formatted as so: Low Team Gross, Low Team Net, Low Gross and Net indies. Tournament prizes for Closest to the Pin, and a new game of “You Callit 5's or 3's”, a prize for the skilled warrior to Net Par either all the Par 5's or all the Par 3's. The cost is $70.
Bring your appetite for the breakfast burritos, or enjoy overlooking the veranda having lunch in the Club Room upstairs afterwards. The first Tee times are starting at 8:30 AM. Check your local listings for the Tee Times.
Next month we are Scheduled for Rio Hondo Golf Course, so get your teams and all the names to me at the meeting or on the course. I will put a sign up board in the Hallway for singles or doubles, that we can put together for next months tourney. Thanks Guys. Keep your sights high and your head down.
Rich Dennison
Rules Chairman
What do you do when your ball is on a Gopher mound in a Sand Bunker ?
In a Bunker you must drop the ball within one club length of the nearest point of relief but you must stay in the bunker.
If you don't like playing from the sand, you can take a one stroke penalty - drop the ball outside the bunker, keeping the spot where it originally lay between you and the hole and go back as far as you wish to drop the ball.

The first two tournaments of the year are non- postable scores and scorecards are pretty neat. I thought I would take a minute to review the information we need for scores to be posted for you or scores turned into the table at the completion of our monthly tournaments.
That information is "how to correctly fill out a scorecard" – You would be surprised at what is turned at the scoring table and we (tournament committee) have to do to try to figure your scores out. Please take just a few extra minutes before you turn in the card and make sure we can read it. I have chased many players down to determine if a score was a 5 or a 6, 8 or a 9 etc. Also, if you are having any "side bets", please get an additional scorecard at the first tee and keep track of wagers on that card. Two down auto presses make a score card almost impossible to read sometimes,
Please review sample scorecard from the SCGA and help the tournament committee out – We would greatly appreciate it. Try your bet on every hole and 'count 'em all."
