President's Corner Another wonderful day of golf at El Dorado as it was a great day to play our annual Scramble Tournament. A typical day for Me as I hit 2 good shots and made 1 putt. I couldn't believe we cashed with a net 54, if it wasn't for Mel Collins we would have had a net 64!! Hope to see you all at the February Select Drive on the 13th and sign up at the meeting for our first real golf tourney of the year the Waltz on March 13th. If any of you have any suggestions to help make this a better club (Yes, I am open to impeachment) please let myself or any Board Member know and we will discuss it at the next BOD Meeting. We are always looking for ways to make improvements to the Men's Club. Meeting Minutes
JANUARY 2011 MEETING MINUTES The January meeting of the El Dorado Park Mens Club was held on Tuesday, January 22, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was the ever-popular (I guess it must be – we have it 6-8 times a year) Mexican Feast. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past presidents in attendance (or at least on the premises) include Rich Dennison, Steve Shure, Tom Conlisk, Dick Scoville, Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Greg O'Brien and Life Member Bob Livingstone. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Approximately 80 members were present. No new members were present. Director Reports were as follow: Golf Commission Rep Bob Livingstone (subbing for Don Marmion) – no report. There was no meeting in December. Past President Jerry Leininger – Urged everyone to get in the Hole in One Fund. Last month Dan Hertzler recorded an Ace but wasn’t in the Fund, thereby missing out on Big Bucks. But being a nice guy, Dan bought drinks at the meeting. Special Events Chairman Dudley – January tournament events will be circles on #3 and 17, and polies on #9 and 12. Remember – it’s the player’s responsibility to report skins, etc., at the scoring table at the conclusion of your round. President Tramer (subbing for the missing Melvina) – Thursday Team Play – As a warm up for Team Play competition, our Thursday Team teed it up against our Saturday Team. Thursday prevailed, 31-29. Mike Montgomery – Saturday Team Play – “Big Deal”. President Tramer (for Nick Zamora) – Away trips – First event of the year is February 20th at Los Serranos. Bob Livingston – Handicaps – Make sure you neatly and completely fill out your GOM cards. For our various Team events, Tournament handicaps will be as follow: 2 man events: 90% Terry Fulford – GOM – Only 5 cards turned in (must have been all that rain in December). Winners were: Gross – Mark Ziggenhagen – 73; Net – Terry Hensen – 67.75. Tom Retterath – Tournament Chairman – The December Tournament was “wet and wild” for most of us – and most of us did show up – but wasn’t a problem for the Hasselman, Huntington and Price Team (sounds like a law firm) in the A Flite. January is a 5 man Scramble – 3 drives per player - $55. February is a 5 Man Select Drive, counting 2 scores on the Par 5’s, and 3 scores on the Par 4’s, and 4 scores on the Par 3’s. There was no old Business. Livy answered some questions regarding course drainage issues. The $50 “must be present to win” drawing went to Eric Sasaki. The $75 “draw ‘til you have a winner” drawing went to Bill Alberth. President Tramer adjourned the meeting at 7:40 pm. Director's Report
Welcome to 2011. Quad Club is coming up fast. We'll play at Recreation Park Saturday morning April 23. We will engage in a 40-card stroke play competition playing against members of Lakewood, Skylinks, and Recreation Park. The low Net score of each card earns 3 points, 2nd low earns 2, and 3rd earns 1, while the highest score gets a goose egg. Play your best and earn our Club 3 points and I'll guarantee you spot in next year's Quad Club at El Dorado. $800 is donated to Jr. Golf as a trade for an extra tournament day. Cost is anticipated to be $55 which includes your $5 share of the donation. There will be a side game to add to the fun. The Sign-up sheet has been placed on the bulletin board. Sign up ASAP as our roster has been requested by the end of March. It is time to bring that trophy home! Rules Reports

Tournament Chairman First of all, I’d like to welcome all new members to El Dorado Men's Club. We have another great year of tournaments ahead of us and I look forward to having excellent participation from the entire membership this year. Also, as a reminder of the Club’s cancellation policy for tournament play, if you have signed up for a tournament, you have until Noon on Thursday to contact me in order to cancel, otherwise you are on the hook for the tournament green’s fees. Sometimes emergencies do come up and we will deal with those on a one-by-one basis. No matter what, you need to contact me in order to cancel. This way I can contact people that might be on the waiting list to fill your spot. If you just tell another playing partner and they tell me the day of the tournament, I can’t fill that spot!! Reminder, we have to pay American golf for the number of players that we expect to play. We started off in January with our 5-man Scramble tournament. The weather was nice and the course was in pretty good shape for this time of year. The scores were about what we expected except for the big Sandbaggers who shot a net 46! That’s quite a score. “A” Flight Gross winning team was Team Gilmore. “A” Flight Net Winning Team was Team Zamora. “B” Flight Gross winning team was Team Scoville (wow)! “B” Flight Net winning team was Team Kirksey. “C” Flight Gross winning team was the mixed team of Team Lebrun/Cannon. “C” Flight Net winning team was Team Kovaleff (first time in a while for these guys!). All results have been posted on our club’s website and in the hallway. On Sunday, February 13th, we will be having our annual 5-man Select Drive tournament. Each player will play to 75% of their current or assigned index. You must use 3 drives per player. 3 balls count per hole. We will be playing from the WHITE tees! As of now I still have some room for singles so if you want to play, please contact me as soon as you can. Tournament cost is $55. On meeting night February 8th, I will be taking sign ups for the March 13th, Waltz tournament. Tournament cost is $55. If you sign up on meeting night, please bring money to secure your time slot. Please be responsible and pre-pay for at least 2 players for your tee time.

Commissioner's Report
The Commission meeting was called to order at Skylinks Golf Course on January 26th. It has been almost three month since our last meeting. The Commission is still in limbo in regards to the recommended changes we have submitted to Mayor and the Council. Superintendent Bob Livingstone is still badgering City Hall to get this addendum signed and passed so we can get on with our business. George Chapjian introduced himself as the replacement for Phil Hester, Director of Parks, Recreation & Marine. With Mr Chapjian's appointment Bob also thinks we can get the new Commission recommendation finalized. The last two months of the years financial and rounds were considerably down due to the rains, but the overall for the year the losses were not that bad. El Dorado, Rec Park and Skylinks are all in the top fifteen of AGC one hundred courses for rounds and revenue. The Colorado Lagoon project has been completed and Little Rec is back to its regular nine holes. A recommendation was proposed for the closure of the on-course Snack
Bob Livingstone My apologies to those of you who fretted over not having the mid-month Handicap Index Update posted at the course. I simply forgot that we do that now! But, in fairness, the last time I was the Club's Handicap Chairman there was no internet, and we still posted most things by hand, so it may take me awhile to get used to this new-fangled computer update stuff! Anyway, if any of you new members, or even you old members, have any questions, please feel free to email me through the Club's website. I did have one question that I will share with those who do not know the answer. A member called me up to say he was unable to post his 9-hole score. He was posting a 9-hole score since he didn't complete the entire back 9 due to darkness. He wanted to post just his front 9 score, which makes logical sense, but ours is not a logical game! If you complete less than 18 holes, but more than 14, you must post your score using Equitable Stroke Control. ESC basically means you post a net par on the holes you did not actually play. Had this person only completed 14 holes, he would have used his handicap of 25 to post a double bogey on hole #15 (the number 4 handicap hole, and one on which he would get two strokes) and bogeys on the remaining holes, where he would get one stroke each. As it turns out, he played 17 holes, so he would post as if he had made a bogey on #18. Good luck, and remember this answer Paul Goydos gave at a clinic for the 49er golf team in response to the question what is the key to successful golf? Paul said "I try to always be sure the ball is closer to the hole after a stroke than it was before the stroke". See how simple the game is.

President's Corner Well, I guess the old slogan “Drive’s don’t mean Shit” was proven wrong as the scores in the Select Drive were phenomenal. We had 2 teams at around 41 UNDER PAR and that was at 75% of their handicap. One of those teams (with their Ringleader Kingfish Conlisk) has been on a role lately and the only explanation I can come up with is Doc Clark must have them back on steroids. DRUG TEST? Check out the scores on our website and if you were 30 under, maybe you cashed. Coming up March 13th we have our first real golf of the year as we have a 2-3-4 WALTZ. Tommy will once again have you on the clock and penalties will be issued. I would like to congratulate our Thursday and Saturday Teams on having a fine year. Our Thursday team hung in there by winning there last 2 matches against Rancho Park 35-13 away and 40-8 at home. Even with that, we needed help from Los Verdes as they had to beat Brookside at home for us to get in the playoffs. They came through as Los Verdes last group got 6 points to give them a 26-22 Victory. We are on our way to are 3rd straight appearance in the FINALS. We should be especially proud of our Saturday Team as after a poor start they turned it on. Going into their last match at Los Verdes (with a forecast of rain) they were 2 & 3 and out of the running. They came to PLAY and won 27-21 at Los Verdes. This shows a lot of CLASS as if we laid down it could have had implications for other teams to win the division. I would like to thank Captains Mel Collins and Mike Montgomery for their fine job of representing the El Dorado Men’s Club. Meeting Minutes
FEBRUARY 2011 MEETING MINUTES The February meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Club was held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included salad, rolls, rice and chicken breast with onions and peppers – Arrozo con Pollo des Sandy. The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Steve Shure, Rich Dennison, Mike Montgomery, Richard Scoville, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Greg O’Brien, Jerry Leininger and (all the way from Utah) Tom Link. No life Members were present. Approximately 80 members were present, including new members Don Baker, Terry Rains, Kirk Jondle and Ryan Boyker. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Director Reports were as follow: Don Marmion (Golf Commission Representative): The new City of Long Beach Director of the Parks and Recreation Department met with the Commission for the first time. November/December revenues were down slightly. LB courses are always rated in the top 100 American Golf courses. Mel Collins (Thursday Team Play): Team is currently 2-1 and tied for 1st Place. Thursday 2/10 is the big match with Los Verdes. Mike Montgomery (Saturday Team Play): Looks like our role is that of “spoiler” after our 0-3 start. Rich Dennison (Special Events): The Feb. Tourney is Select Drive Three Best Balls, played from the White Tees. A & B Flights will be Circles on 9 & 12, and Closest to the Pin on 3 and 17. C Flight has a $200 carryover from January, and will have “on the green” on 9 & 12 (for a serious payout), and closest to the pin on 3 and 17. Also – remember to turn in appropriate “Skin” info at the Table starting next month. Terry Fulford (GOM): Of the plethora of cards turned in for January (plethora meaning 2 in this case), our Net Winner (74.25) was Justin VanderBroek, and Gross Winner (82) was Rich Gilmore. Maybe it would be a good idea to turn in those Net 72s, huh? Our April meeting will begin our 9 Hole Tournament and Putting Contest. Mike Vaughn (Quad Club): Match will be Saturday, April 23rd at Rec Park. Taking sign-ups now. Let’s win this year! Nick Zamora (Entertainment): Our next two trips are Sunday 2/20 to Los Serranos ($80) and Sunday 3/27 at Mile Square Classic Course ($75 – 9 am Tee Time). Contact Nick to sign up. Tom Retterath (Tournament Chairman): The January Tournament went well and was very competitive, except for the one group with a net 46 (wow!). February Tournament is full – 37 Groups – and we’ll play to 75% of your handicap. March tournament is a 2-3-4 waltz on 3/13 – The first day of Daylight Savings Time. Set your alarms. The “Must be here to win” drawing of $50 went to Fred Zuelich, who wasn’t, so it will be $55 next month. The “Draw ‘till you win” $75 went to Bill Alberth (2 months in a row!!). Good reason to show up at the meetings! The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 pm (EST). Director's Report

Tournament Chairman Well after a chilly morning we ended up with a great weather day for golf in the Select Drive tournament. We had good participation for an early in the year event. This will be the last tournament of the year where it will not be a “postable score”. The course was in good condition with the greens nice and firm. I can definitely see from the scores that some people really like playing from someone else’s drive! Plus playing from the white tees also encouraged some low scoring. While I thought this format and especially playing from the white tees would enable us to continue our success with playing under 5 hours for everyone in the tournament. Sad to say, we had almost half the field with times greater than 4 ¾ hours and with the last 12 groups finishing right around 5 ¼ hours. Everyone needs to encourage their group to be “ready” when it’s their turn and to ensure that they maintain a good pace-of-play. With that said we did penalize 2 groups for slow play. Our “A” flight Gross winners was Team Livy. “A” flight Net winners was Team Henson. Nice Gross 66 by Jim Fuchs! Jim, are you glad it wasn’t a postable round! “B” flight Gross winners was Team Conlisk. “B” flight Net winners was Team Billy J. “C” flight Gross winners was Team “Ace Randy Wold”! Yes, Randy Wold made a hole-in-1 on Hole #9. “C” flight Net winners was Team Fulford. All results have been posted on our club’s website and in the hallway. On Sunday, March 13th, we will be having our annual Pat Harris 5-man Waltz tournament. Each player will play to 75% of their current or assigned index. Scoring format will be a 2-3-4 Waltz playing from the Blue tees. As of now I still have some room for singles so if you want to play, please contact me as soon as you can. Tournament cost is $55. Reminder – This is the first day of Daylight Savings Time – be sure to set your clocks so you’re not late for your tee time (hint, hint – Mike Drew)! On meeting night March 8th, I will be taking sign ups for the April 10th, 1 Gross/2 Net tournament. Tournament cost is $55. If you sign up on meeting night, please bring money to secure your time slot. Please be responsible and pre-pay for at least 2 players for your tee time. Reminder, the annual Member-Member is just a few months away. In order to play in the Member-Member tournament, you must have played in 3 club events during the prior 12 months. With that said, you still have enough club events left right now if you play in everything in order to qualify for this big event.
Entertainment Chairman
Our first away trip for the year is in the books. We played February 20th at Los Serranos in Chino Hills. The format was 2 Scores on the Par 3's and 3 Scores in the Par 4's and 5's. For all those of you who thought it was going to rain on us and didn't play, shame on you! It was crystal clear and 40˚. It could have snowed, but it was not going to rain. We had 40 golfers and a few were new to the club, which is nice. Gross winner was Marty Suart with a 83. All the gross guys stayed home because of the weather. The low net winner was Kerry Bryan at 68, just before he has to bear down for tax season. Everything is posted and you can see me for the results. I will be at the meeting. Our March trip is going to be at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. The date is March 27th. The format is going to be 3234 Waltz. The cost is $70. The first Tee Time is 10:00 am. Remember you can sign up as a single or as a whole group.

Bob Livingstone Happy March, everyone. In memory of the Late, Great Patrick Harris (famous for saying if it's a hole on a golf course, I stroke on it!, this Month's Pat Harris St. Patrick's Day tournament will be the first time we try a variation of the USGA Handicapping System's recommendation to reduce the effective handicap of partners in a multi-ball event. We have agreed that in all two-ball events (Member-Member and Partner-Partner) we will use the USGA recommended 10% reduction. In any foursome or fivesome event where two balls are used, we will go with a 20% reduction to everyone's handicap, and in any event where three balls are used, we will try a 25% reduction, and see how it works. Remember, that when you play away, you can post your scores on the GHIN computer at the course you play (except for the handful of regions/Associations that still aren't on GHIN -- Arizona is the only one that should really impact any of our members). Simply touch the screen at the course you play to post your scores, and voila, you have followed the rules. If you play somewhere that doesn't have the ability to post, you can post on your personal computer once you get back, by going to the www.scga.org website and creating a posting account (upper right corner) or you can leave your scorecard in the Men's Club drawer, and it can be posted for you...the latter is the least desirable option, since you should be posting your own scores, but sometimes that simply isn't possible. Keep it in the fairway, and try on every shot!

President's Corner Well, I again must say we are a BAD club of golfers as our team cashed with a measly 5 under par. Even at 75% that is pretty bad. Using the 75% of handicap for the tournament didn't really change anything as all the teams that cashed would have been in the same position except 1 if we used full handicaps. We will continue to monitor this format. Coming up is one of are bigger tournaments of the year, the MEMBER-MEMBER, which is on May 14th & 15th. This tournament is played at LI and you have played in 3 tournaments the past year to participate. Don’t look to have a wager with Rick Evans and I as we lose 10 shots going from current to LI. I want to thank everyone on their pace of play as it has improved significantly since Tom implemented the 15 minute rule. Meeting Minutes
FEBRUARY 2011 MEETING MINUTES The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Club was held on March 8, 2011, in the big white tent. The pre-dinner meal looked really good – salad, rolls, baked beans, rice, the ever-popular chicken breast Sandy, tri-tip, and brownies. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past presidents in attendance included Rich Dennison, Steve Shure, Mike Montgomery, Greg O’Brien, Tom Conlisk and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. Approximately 80 members were present. President Tramer led the Club in a moment of silence for two gentlemen who passed away this past month – Member Karl Kalva and long time course staple Dick Stratton. They will be missed. The Minutes and Treasurer’s Report from the previous month were approved. New members Jim Peightal and Mark Cantin (Glenn’s Nephew) introduced themselves and were given a tour of the facilities (and taught the secret handshake?) by Rich Dennison. Director’s reports were as follow: Mike Montgomery – Saturday Team Play – Our team really “manned up” and made a great comeback after a shaky start this year, including a remarkable last match in cold, rainy weather. Special thanks to Nick Zamora for his help as co-captain. Mel Collins – Thursday Team Play – Congratulations to our Thursday Team for winning our highly competitive league for the third straight year. We are Division 13 Champs again, and headed for the play-offs. Thanks to co-captain Mark Ziegenhagen. Terry Fulford – Had only 6 cards turned in for GOM honors. Winners were Mike Marmer – Gross 72 and Greg Englant – Net 69.5. Remember – your round must be played with another member, and your card filled out completely. The Golfer of the Year Tournament, featuring all GOM winners, is set for March 19. Mark Ziegenhagen – Rules – Remember the most important rule – “play it as it lies”. Nick Zamora – Away Tournaments – Los Serranos in February was tough – 40 degrees and playing very long. March event is 3/27 at Mile Square and will be a 3-2-3-4 Waltz on the Classic Course. The 60 spots are filling up fast. April will be at the SCGA course. Bob Livingston (for Jerry Leininger) – SCGA – The Club will be utilizing the handicap percentage reductions for team events as follow: for twosomes – 90%; for foursomes – 80%; for fivesomes – 75%. Mike Vaughn – The Quad Club is set for Rec Park on April 23, with starting times from 7 am – 11 am. We still need a few more members to sign up for this fun event. Our pre-meeting putting contest starts next month – be here not later than 5:30 pm. Tom Retterath – Tournament Chairman – The February Tournament had a couple of teams penalized for slow play – remember, you must complete your round in 4:45 (or less if you have an early time) but never more than 15 minutes after the group ahead of you. The March Tournament is a 2-3-4 Waltz, with a full field of 35 groups. The Member-Member is May 14 & 15, with a mail-in registration form, and is $120 per player. We’ll play at 90% handicaps, and you must have played in a minimum of three club events (home tourneys, away tourneys or 9-hole pre-meeting tourneys) in the past 12 months to be eligible. The April tourney (4/10) is a 5 man, 1 gross, 2 net tournament at 75% handicap. Rich Dennison – Special Events – For March we’ll have $5 for closest to the pin on #17, and $5 for net par or better “North of Willow”. Remember to report your accomplishments at the table after your round. President Tramer reminded everyone about the opportunity to get back in to the Hole-In-One Fund, either at the Table on check-in or on the First Tee. Randy Wold recently won $1005. New Business – It was noted that Todd Thiele and Mike Gilmore celebrated birthdays this week. The $60 “must be present to win” drawing was won by Doug Jones, who wasn’t, so it goes to $65 next month. The $50 “draw ‘till we have a winner” drawing ran through 8 absent members before being won by Todd Thiele. The meeting was adjourned by President Tramer at 7:30pm. Director's Report
Hello all, there has been great interest in this year’s Quad Club. I will be working with the other Club’s captains to establish the groupings by the end of this month or the first week in April. If you want to play but missed out on the initial recruitment be sure to let me know as a space or two could open up at the last minute. You can email your name, GHIN Number, Current Index and telephone number to mikev@eldoradogolfclub.org. Remember if you win 3 points you have secured a spot in next year’s event that will be played at El Dorado. We are into Daylight Saving Time. Bring your flat stick to the course before the meeting April 12 to show off your skills. The Putting Contest will start between 5:00 – 5:30, as close to 5:00 as possible, winding up by 6:30. See you there. Director's Report
Golfer of the year tournament went off well. We had 8 golfers in each flight. Gross winning was Jim Fuchs 73 2nd was Steve Friend 75 3rd Jim Byers 78. Net winning was Bill Johnson 71 2nd was John Davis 77 and believe it or not with net 82 was John Shellenberger. Don't forget nine hole starts 4-12-11 before or meeting. |
Tournament Chairman We had a great day for golf for our annual Pat Harris golf tournament. The tournament coincided with Daylight Savings and this year we had everyone show up on time (except Braz but it wasn’t due to not setting his clock)!!! The course was in good condition with the greens nice and firm. This was the first tournament of 2011 where everyone had to play their own ball the whole round! Also, we tried out the 75% of handicap for multi-ball team event. There was one team that was penalized for not keeping up with our pace-of-play rule. Reminder, it’s in the best interest of the entire club if we can play with more urgency! Our “A” flight Gross winners was Team Matt Huntington. “A” flight Net winners was Team Carl Martin. “B” flight Gross winners was Team Wilcox. “B” flight Net winners was Team Brian Ball. “C” flight Gross winners was Team Zamarripa. “C” flight Net winners was Team Baird. All results have been posted on our club’s website and in the hallway. On Sunday, April 10th, we will be having our annual 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament. Each player will play to 75% of their current or assigned index. We will play from the Blue tees. As of now I still have some room for singles so if you want to play, please contact me as soon as you can. Tournament cost is $55. FYI – this tournament is held before the General Meeting night! Our annual Member-Member is approaching fast. In order to play in the Member-Member tournament, you must have played in 3 club events during the prior 12 months. This is a mail-in tournament or you can place your entry in the men’s club drawer in the pro shop. Tournament cost is $120 per player. The overall Net winning team will represent our men’s club in the SCGA 4-Ball tournament to be held later this year. I want to see a full field (80+ teams) this year for this great 2-day event!! If you’re a single and want to be paired up with another single, please let me know! Format of the tournament will be Day 1 – Best Ball and Day 2 – Team Aggregate Score. This tournament will be played at Low Index (LI) or your assigned index, whichever is lower.

Commissioner's Report
There was not a Commission Meeting in March. Superintendent Livingstone has kept the Commission updated on what has progressed via email. The City Council approved AGC assumption of Choura Venue Services lease for the El Dorado Restaurant and escrow closed on March 25th. AGC will spend $120,000 on capital improvements, saving our CIP funds. New restrooms in Clubhouse, slippery tiles outside bar, new paint, carpet etc. Rick Crowder was appointed new GM and Ron Mahaffey began as our new Superintendent. Both have asked to attend our next men's club meeting. Rick was GM at Skylinks the past four years and Ron comes over highly recommended from previous jobs with other courses. There still has not been any update from the City Council on the approval of the new Commission configuration. For those of you who new Don Lucarelli, he passed away last week after a tough battle with cancer. He was a past member of the commission and will be missed by a lot of his golfing friends. The new plans for an enhanced practice facility at ElDo was authorized and should start in April. It will be constructed behind nine green with new bunker and chipping area. For the months of January and February rounds of golf were above the previous year even thou we did have some rain cancellations.
Bob Livingstone In last month's Pat Harris/St. Patrick's Day Waltz, we used an extrapolation of the USGA's recommended reduction of handicap for multi-ball events. The USGA recommends that in a two-man format, each partner's handicap be reduced to 90%, and in a two-best ball of four, that it be reduced to 80%. Since we had 5 balls in play we used 75%. Tom Retterath was kind enough to run the results as if we had not made any reduction, and the results were only slightly different. In the A Flight, the team that won by 1 shot would have come in 4th by 4 shots, while the team that would have won by 2 shots without any handicap adjustments finished in a tie for second, missing a tie for first by just a shot. In the B Flight, the team that won by one shot with the 75% reduction would have tied for first with no reduction, and in the C Flight, the team that would have won by a shot with no reduction finished tied for second by a shot. Interestingly, the teams that would have won with full handicap but ended up finishing tied for second were teams put together by Board Members.... So, some would probably look at these results and ask "why do it?", but I think it shows that using the USGA's recommendation did not "screw" any higher handicap players. We will try this again in April and re-evaluate it in May when we have the Member-Member. Nothing is set in stone, so do feel free to submit your thoughts to any member of the Board.

President's Corner Well, we are getting ready to play are Biggie of the year, the 2 day Member-Member on May 14th & 15th. I hope you have entered if you meet the requirement (3 tournaments played in the past year) as this is a fun one and the course should be in great shape. Those of you that have never gone on a away trip a the one May 21rst to Santa Anita is a good one. This is a great golf course to play at a reasonable rate. You also might want to start thinking about the Weekender to Aliante in Las Vegas on October 7-9. This is a great trip as we are treated like royalty and the price we get is phenomenal. Just ask anybody who has gone on one. Meeting Minutes
APRIL 2011 MEETING MINUTES The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, April 12th, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting meal was baked chicken, grilled vegetables, rice, salad and rolls. The meeting was called to order at 7:09pm by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Richard Scoville, Rich Dennison, Jerry Leininger, Steve Shure, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. Approximately 60 members were present. President Tramer opened the meeting by requesting a moment of silence in memory of Ron Gilmore, Father of members Mike and Rich Gilmore, who passed recently away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gilmore Family. The past month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. New member Bill Overman, who previously played for Los Verdes in the Team Play event, introduced himself and was promptly assigned a handicap of 2 by President Tramer. Livy may adjust that later. Director’s Reports: Rich Dennison (Special Events): Thanks to Randy Wold for the free beer tonight, in celebration of Randy’s recent tournament Hole-In-One. Bob Livingston (Handicap): Livy noted that the Board screwed up in interpreting the SCGA guideline relative to handicap reductions for team events, and we’ll go back to using 90% of individual’s handicaps for all 4 man and 5 man events. Bob will be playing in a 100 Hole SCGA Marathon Fund Raiser, so let’s all help sponsor him in this worthwhile event. Nick Zamora (Away Trips): The March trip all the way to Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley was a 3-2-3-4 waltz – maybe the first one ever. Randy Wold’s team (looks like Randy’s on a roll) came in first. The April trip is 4/17 to Rancho California (formerly the SCGA Course). We’ll count 3 scores on the even number holes and 2 on the odd holes. Cost is $85. Mike Vaughn (Quad Club): Field is now full, with several members on the stand-by list. Our first of the year Putting Tournament Winner was Terry Henson, with 5 others tied for second. Tom Retterath (Tournament Chairman): For all tournaments, please get any line-up changes in to Tom ASAP. (His job is plenty tough enough without last minute stuff). April tournament winners were: “A” – Steve Shure’s Group; “B” – George Lopez’s Group; “C” – Kerry Bryan’s Group. May is the Member-Member – mail in sign up. Terry Fulford (9 Hole Tournament, etc): Our first of the year 9 Hole Tournament today had 13 cards turned in. Winner was Terry Sweet (net 32), followed by Brendon Devore (net 35) and Bill Johnson and Greg Englant (net 36.5). GOM winners for March were Dave Rubin (Gross 71) and Fred Woolfork (net 66.75). Winners of the Golfer of the Year Tournament were Jim Fuchs (Gross 73) and Bill Johnson (net 71.5). President Tramer then introduced El Dorado’s new General Manager (Rick Crowder) and Superintendent (Ron Mahaffey). In response to various questions, it was noted that: the rough will be maintained at approximately 11/2 inches; the greens (which are a little firm) will be punched beginning Monday, 4/18 (1/2 of each green at a time); stolens will be taken from non-play areas and placed in the fairways where needed; and the greens will be kept at a pace of 10 ½ to11. Improvements will be addressed continually as time and budget permits. Mel Collins reported that the Thursday Team won their first playoff match but lost in the second round to Sierra La Verne. Mel thanked all the team members and the club for their support. There was no Old Business. Under New Business a motion was made and seconded that “All Tournaments be played at full handicaps”. After discussion, a vote was taken, and the motion failed. It was noted that the Board is considering changing GOM handicaps from 75% to 90%, effective next year. The Drawing Winners were: Tim Yee (“must be present”, and he wasn’t, so I guess he didn’t really win) and Brendon Devore (number 12 drawn in the “draw ‘til you have a winner”). The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm. Director's Report
Can you believe it’s already Daylight Saving Time, me either. This year’s first Putting Contest went well. Players traversed a 9-hole course built on ridges with the format of “Count them all”. Entry fee was $3 per round or $5 for (2) rounds. Rounds that were paid are all eligible for prize. Terry Henson learned the subtle nature of the layout and rolled a 3-under 15 on his 5th trip around. Scoring 1-under 17 was a 5-way tie between Todd Thiele, George Manyak, John Suttie, and twice for Henson (rounds 2 and 6). Congratulations are in order for one of my golf mentors on his smooth 2-under 16 that was overlooked when breaking down the results. Use this as an added incentive to win next month’s contest! We will start as close to 5:00 pm as possible ending NLT 6:45. We had a great Quad Club team however our results were a bit less than anticipated. Playing as our Pro, Doug Diemer stated it off at 7:00 am and captured 2 points. We stalled for a spell collecting 12.5 points in our first 13 groups. Our train got to rolling with the middle 14 players taking 25.5 points. However our hammers in the last 13 groups (including me) only amassed 14 more points. Our total of 52 points was dead last. Skylinks won with 67, Lakewood took 2nd with 61.5, and Rec Park placed 3rd with 59.5. The Side Pot $5 game was paid to those who scored 3-points. George Manyak, Allen Reinking, David Pemberton, Sebastian Sturdevant, Jerry Leininger and Randy Kervin all scored 3. However Allen and Jerry chose not to partake in the forbidden sin of gambling. George, David, Seb and Randy split the pool to put $47.50 in each of their pockets. I guaranteed any player who scored 3-points has a place in next year’s event at El Dorado. At the tournament I was informed bad information had been given to me as next year it is at Lakewood and El Dorado is in 2013. Your guarantee has a 2013 rain check attached to it. Next year’s Quad Club is scheduled for Lakewood on Saturday April 28, 2012. Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation and support of our Men’s Club.
Tournament Chairman Well another month has come and gone. The course was in very good condition with the greens nice and firm for the 1 Gross / 2 Net tournament. We had some good scores in the tournament. As the weather gets warmer, it looks like the scores go lower!
Entertainment Chairman
Our away trip to the Golf Club at Rancho California was on Sunday, April 17, 2011. We got lucky and had a shot gun start at 9:00 am. Perfect. The weather was warm and the course was in great shape. The format was 2 net scores on even holes and 3 net scores on odd holes. We had some low scores too, Greg O’Brien and Chris Martin both shot 76 gross and our own president Dennis Tramer had a crazy 62 net. What is up with that? Shaun Rippy is learning how to use his strokes to his advantage he had 3 net skins. All the other results are posted so see me with any questions. Our May tournament is to Santa Anita on Saturday, May 21st. Tee times begin at 10:00 am and the format is 3 best balls. The cost is $70 plus gross and net skins. Remember you can play as a single or an entire group. See me at the meeting with other tournaments too. As always, thanks for coming.

Bob Livingstone The SCGA Foundation -- which provides scholarships, playing and practicing opportunities, and clinics which include course access to junior golfers throughout the southern California area -- will be conducting its second annual Fund Raising Golf Marathon on May 21st, and I will again be one of the participants. This is just like a jog-a-thon or walk-a-thon, in that someone who wishes to donate can do so by sponsoring the participants in the form of a flat donation or a donation per hole played. The goal is again 100 holes. The Marathon raised over $28,000 last year and the goal for this year is $40,000. If you have any interest in sponsoring this activity or making a donation, I will have pledge forms at the May Meeting or you can visit the SCGA Foundation to make a pledge. A big thanks to those who have already made a pledge or donation. If you have any questions, you may email me. Thanks, and see you at the meeting,

President's Corner The MEMBER-MEMBER went off without a hitch and as always Tom did a great job. Congratulations to John (I’m a chop) Dymon and Eddie (easy money) Fernandes on shooting a fine total of 197 and winning by 5 shots. I can only figure Dymon had 5 or 6 “chip ins” on Sunday when he shot 67. They will be great representatives for El Dorado at the SCGA 4 BALL championships. Good tournament as it is the first time ever Ricky Evans and I cashed. It must have been because it was a short field. Coming up in June is the Partner BB Blind Draw. It is a lot of fun as you can shoot like crap and end up making mucho mullah. This is also the 1rst round of the Club Championships, so remember if you are entered in the CC you must play in this tournament. Make sure you come and sign up for the RED-WHITE-BLUE TOURNAMENT on July 16th. Make sure you hit 'em like I do, short and crooked. Meeting Minutes
MAY 2011 MEETING MINUTES The May meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, May 10th, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting meal included salad, beef in gravy, chicken, broccoli, rolls and dessert. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Richard Dennison, Jerry Leininger, Steve Shure, Tom Conlisk, Don Marmion, Mike Montgomery, Richard Scoville and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. There were approximately 100 members present. President Tramer noted that in order to be eligible for the Club Championship, you must have an index of 4.8 or less. The regularly scheduled June Tournament (6/18) is the first round of the Championship, with the second and third rounds on June 25 & 26. Committee reports were as follow: Don Marmion (Golf Commission): The restructuring of the Golf Commission is still not on the City Council agenda for approval – maybe next month. The aerification (is that a real word?) of the greens at all three Long Beach courses is nearly complete. The Long Beach Golf Festival is approaching (July) – check the City’s website for details. The Little Linksters Program for kids will be happening during two weeks in July at Heartwell for kids 8-12 years. Sign up soon if your kids /grandkids/great grandkids are interested. Monthly rounds (and revenues) were up in January and February, but down in March (weather?). The lease negotiations with AGC for the El Dorado Restaurant are complete, and an 18 year lease is in place. The City will get 8% of the revenue initially, increasing to 10%. There may be a greens fee increase in the works, but not before October. Len Kenneth (Chairman of the LB Golf Hall of Fame) has nominated three individuals for induction: Steve Cook, Kathy Eaton and John Tate. Inductions will be at the conclusion of the Long Beach Open in July. The bathrooms at El Do are complete, and looking very nice. Terry Fulford: There were 6 cards turned in for GOM. Winners were Steve Shure (net 66.25) and Al Ostberg (gross 73). We had 24 players for the 9 hole pre-meeting tournament: 1st was Don Pichovich (net 33.5), 2nd was Tom Conlisk (net 34.0), and 3rd was a tie between Danny Martin, Billy Johnson and Terry Fulford (net 34.5). Jerry Leininger: The SCGA Report is available on our website. If you want to get in the Hole-in-One Fund, see Jerry. Richard Dennison (Special Events): Don’t forget the pairing party Friday night before the Member-Member. Special Events will be North of Willow and closest to the Pin on 17 for Saturday; Sunday is Honeypot (net par or better for the round). Remember to report all of your accomplishments (Skins, North of Willow, etc.) to the Table at the end of your round. It’s your responsibility. Bob Livingstone (SCGA Board Member): Livy will be playing in a 100 hole fundraiser for Educational Scholarships for kids. See him if you’d like to contribute. Nick Zamora (Entertainment): Our April away trip to Rancho California (the old SCGA Course) had 36 players. Format was 2 net scores on the even holes and 3 on the odd holes. Winners (by 7 strokes) were Tramer, O’Brien, Johnson & McElhenney. The May 21st trip is to Santa Anita – 2 best balls - $70. The June 4th trip is to Soboba. The water will be clear, so Fuchs should really cash in on golf balls. Mike Vaughn: We had 19 players for the pre-meeting putting contest, with 12 players tied for 2nd place. The first place winners – a three way tie between Braswell, Henson and Collins. Obviously Mel’s been working on his game quite a bit to move up into a higher level of competition. All of the El Do members who got 3 points in the Quad Club competition (in which we unfortunately finished last – wait ‘til next year) are guaranteed a spot in next year’s Quad Club. Flites competition will begin in August. Tom Retterath (VP/Tournament Chairman): There are 70 teams (140 players) signed up for the Member/Member. There will be 3 Flites, paying 9 teams per Flite. Day 1 is two-man best ball, and Day 2 is aggregate. One food and two drink coupons are included. The June Tournament (also the first day of the Club Championship) is $55, with an additional $100 if you’re playing in the Club Championship. Let Tom know if you want to play on Father’s Day – we have a few times. There was no old business and no new business. Livy addressed a Rules question regarding “grounding the club after taking a drop”. It was noted that John Yeakel’s son’s golf team at Cal State San Marcos is advancing to post-season NCAA play. Congratulations! No winner for the “must be here to win drawing”. Sorry Eric Lishka. The $50 “draw ‘till you win” pot went to Terry Henson. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm. Director's Report
The May Putting Contest was “Aces Only” over a 9-hole layout, $3 per round or 2 rounds for $5. From these first two events it is obvious that I am going to have to create something that will produce a wider range of results. Terry Henson had his flat stick smoking once again draining 3 for a 1st place tie with Tim Braswell and Mel Collins for $29 each. 2nd place was split 12-ways for those who sank 2 for $5 per. The June contest will start as close to 5:15 pm as possible ending NLT 6:45. The sign up sheet for the 2011 El Dorado Match Play Flight Championships is posted in the hallway. Entries must be made NLT July 24. This will allow time to construct and post the brackets and enable participants to contact their opponent to arrange their match. All matches will be played at your LI or assigned index, whichever is lower. The first match may be played as of August 1 and all must be completed NLT August 31. Your second round may be played starting September 1 with all finished NLT September 30. The semi-final matches are to be played from between October 1 and October 3. The Championship matches will be played in November, likely in the same format they have been the past 2-years. Entry fee is $20 per player, payable with a note stating your name, GHIN number, telephone, and email address. Note that with SCGA changing handicaps on the 1st and 15th of every month you must ensure your correct handicap for the date of play before teeing off on the first hole. It is your responsibility to ensure you are competing at your correct index. A word of advice is to know The Rules of Golf for match play competition. For example Rules 2-5, 2-6 and 34-1 discuss claims and penalties during match play. Protect yourself from needless infractions or disqualification. Plaques/trophies plus some hard cash will be awarded to the winner of each bracket, with some consolation greenbacks going to the runner ups. Keep it out of the trees, and play to Win! Tournament Chairman I’d like to thank Rick (GM) and Ron (course superintendent) for getting the course in great shape for our annual member/member tournament. I’d also like to thank JC for making sure the Food/Drink went smoothly too. Even though Mother Nature wasn’t too kind to us on early Sunday morning with a nice steady bit of rain, the event was very successful! I’d like to congratulate Team Fernandes/Dymon on winning the Overall Net in the entire tournament. This team will be representing El Dorado later this year in the SCGA 2 man tournament – good luck guys! John Dymon played extremely well on Sunday carding a very nice 4 under par round 68. A Flight Gross winning team was Fernandes/Dymon with Team Suttie/Wong finishing first in Net followed by a tie for 2nd with Teams Huntington/Hasselman and Kirksey/Bentele. B Flight Gross winning team (and horse race winners) was Team Shure/Wildy . Team Thiele/Smith took 1st Net followed closely by Team Standish/Henson and Leininger/Reagan. C Flight Gross winning team was Team McBride/Lane with Team Kling/Carbajal taking 1st place Net by winning a card-off with team Bundy/McCullough. Team Reid/Schmitz took 3rd net. Our next tournament will be held on Saturday, June 18th. This also coincides as the first day of the Club Championships. The tournament format is a 2-man Blind Draw. Cost is $55. Play will be from the Blue Tees. I still have openings so if you want to play, please let me know ASAP! At the General Meeting Night (6/14) I will be taking tournament signups for the July 16th Red-White-Blue tournament. As of right now there’s discussion that this could switch to a Shotgun start. We’ll definitely know by the General Meeting night if this will occur or not.
Entertainment Chairman
Our May away trip was to beautiful Santa Anita. Tee times began at 10:00 am; so we had plenty of time for breakfast and practice at the range. The weather was perfect and the pace of play was pretty good. All these conditions made for some low scores. Mel Collins is coming off a win at the Long Beach City Seniors Championship, shot a great round of 67. Steve Friend shot a nice 70. Mike Montgomery, Frank Followell and myself shot 67 net. Nineteen (19) people out of Forty (40) shot 71 or below net, it was a good day to go low. There were three (3) teams within one stroke of each other for the win. On a card-off the winners were Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Frank Followell and Mike Gilmore. All the other results are posted. June 4, 2011 we travel to Soboba Springs. Tee Times begin at 9:00 am. The format is a 123 Waltz. The cost is $70 plus skins. Call or email me if you are interested. Thanks for coming & see you on the links.
Commissioner's Report

Bob Livingstone As I write this, it is still light enough at 8PM to hit balls, so it is clearly the time of year when one could get in 9-holes after work (Eldo is in great shape and the twilight and super-twilight rates are reasonable, by the way!) so this is a reminder that if you do in fact go out and play 9-holes, that you need to post your score. If you get two 9-hole scores, GHIN will combine them and create one score for your Handicap file. If you play a minimum of 13 holes, you need to post an 18-hole score using Equitable Stoke Control (ESC). ESC means you give yourself net par on the holes you didn't actually play. As an example, if you played 14 holes and were a 13 handicap playing from the Blue tees, you would give yourself bogeys on holes 15 and 17 (since they are handicap holes #4 and #12 from the Blue tees and you would get a stroke to make "net par") and pars on holes 16 and 18 to determine your score. If you play in the 9-hole tournament before the June meeting, make sure you post your score correctly based on how many holes you play. Also, as several of you have done in the past, if you have posted a score incorrectly, you can email me through the Club's website and I can make changes for you. If at all possible, let me know of the error enough time before the 14th or end of the month, so that I can make the change before the semi-monthly GHIN update.

President's Corner I would like to start off by congratulating Jim Fuchs on winning the Club Championship. We had a nice turnout and a close finish in the Championship flight. The other 2 flights were runaways as Don Didier won the “A” flight by 9 shots and Mike Montgomery won the “B” flight by 11 shots. Nice shooting gentlemen. Hope everyone had a good time in the June Blind Draw tournament. Only way I could have cashed was by getting a good draw, instead I got that “lump” Greg O’Brien. Make sure you come to the meeting and signup for the August raffle tournament. Remember this is a “beat the heat” 6:30 shotgun start. This worked out really well last year as we were all off the course by noon, and the raffle had a much larger turnout than usual due to the fact everyone finished at the same time. We were out of their by 2:00. See you all the July 16th RED-WHITE-BLUE Tournament. Meeting Minutes
JUNE 2011 MEETING MINUTES The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included the ever-popular Chicken Breast Sandee, lasagna, grilled veggies, salad, garlic bread and cookies. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Vice President/Tournament Chairman Tom Retterath (filling in for absent-but excused-President Dennis Tramer) who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Jerry Leininger, Steve Shure, Don (“make sure you note that I was here”) Marmion, Tom Conlisk, Richard Scoville, Greg O’Brien, Rich Dennison, Mike Montgomery, and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. There were approximately 110 members present. Committee Reports were as follow: Don Marmion (Golf Commission) – No report (but he was here). Mike Montgomery (Communications) – Mike is selling raffle tickets for a spot in the Long Beach Open. He also noted that slow play is a definite problem for our club, as evidenced by our recent away trip to Soboba Springs. Pick it up, guys. Jerry Leininger (SCGA Representative) – No report. Terry Fulford (GOM) – We had 15 cards turned in for May Golfer of the Month. Winners were John Dymon – gross 68 and George Manyak – net 65.5. It should be noted that Eddie Fernandez had a nice net 66.5 on the Saturday of the Member-Member Tournament, which was when John shot his 68. No wonder these guys won the Tournament! The 9 Hole Pre-Meeting Tournament today had 28 players. Winners were Nick Zamora – 1st – net 30.5, Shawn Rippy – 2nd – net 31.5, and tied for 3rd – Jerry Hodge and Sebastian Sturdevant – net 33.5. Nick should have his letter by now. Rich Dennison (Special Events) – June Tournament events will be $5 for Moneypot (net 71 or better, not 72 like we usually do) and $5 for Par 3 event (in the circle on #12 for A & B Flight, on the green on #9 for C Flight). Mike Vaughn – The Pre-meeting putting contest was hotly contested, with 8 guys tied for 2nd. However, 1st place (again!) went to Terry Henson. What a putter Terry wields. Mike encouraged everyone to sign up for the Flights competition, which will start soon. Bob Livingstone – Congratulations are in order for Mel Collins, who recently the Long Beach Senior Open, and to Bob Forster and Larry Grant, who qualified for the SCGA Senior Amateur Championship at Victoria. A reminder – don’t forget to post your 9 Hole scores. Also – the Publinks Senior Event (to be held in Long Beach) is coming up soon. Sign up at the SCGA Website. Nick Zamora (Entertainment) - Soboba Springs winners were Jim Fuchs – Gross 77 (and proud owner of at least 66 new – to him – golf balls) and Mike Montgomery – net 69. First place team was Mercado/Green/Ahmadi/Gonzales, who edged out two other teams in a card-off. Our next trip is July 9 to Rio Hondo. The September Aliante Weekender is coming up soon – don’t miss it. Tom Retherath (V.P./Tournament Chairman) – Congratulations to John Dyman and Eddie Fernandez for their victory in the May Member/Member Tournament. The June Tournament is a “blind draw partners best ball” format, and is also the first round of the Club Championship. The July Tournament is the Red-White-Blue format (where we use various tee placements) on July 16. Old Business – None. New Business – There was a Rules question regarding forgetting the mark your ball on the green before lifting it. Determination (by Livy, filling in for Rules Chairman Ziegenhagen) was as follows: if the ball is replaced exactly where it was originally, the penalty is 1 stroke (for touching a live ball). If you don’t know exactly where it was and must take a drop on the green, the penalty is 2 strokes. Drawings – The “must be present to win” name drawn was Terry McQuaid, who passed up $75 by not being present. The $50 “draw “till we have a winner” went to John Yeakel. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm. Director's Report
The June Putting Contest was “Count them All” over a par 18 layout named “Craters of the Moon” paying tribute to the ½” holes that had recently been punched. My intentions were a course with boundaries before learning of the altered conditions. Be ready for something different in July. Contest entry was $3 per round or $5 for (2). Terry Henson continues to roll the ball into the hole, albeit the surface deviation by carding a 15 for sole possession of 1st place and $75. There were (8) rounds of 16 that tied for 2nd place returning $6 each. The July contest will start as close to 5:15 pm as possible ending at 6:45. Our Match Play Flight Championships are about to begin. Sign up sheet has been posted in the hallway. Entry fee is $20 per player. Entries need to be made NLT Sunday July 24. Matches will be played at your Low Index or assigned index, whichever is lowest. With your’ index possibly changing on both the 1st or the 15th be certain the handicap you declare before starting the match is correct per Rule 6-2.a. This is your responsibility and no one else. Matches will start as early as August 1 with the Championships determined in November. Payment can be given to me or you can complete an envelope writing Flights entry, your name, GHIN number, telephone, and email address on an envelope with $20 cash or check to El Dorado Men’s Golf Club in the right hand Club drawer (the locked one). Get signed up to enjoy some one-on-one competition. Play your next shot as if your opponent is going to hole his! Director's Report
It looks like we are finally going to get some warm weather, so get out and play some golf. Meeting night we always have a 9 hole tournament, you must play with a member and turn in a signed and attested score card. The last 2 month we have had a good turn out (24 and 28 players) so you can win some good points. Keep turning in your golfer of the month cards also most of the baggers have already won so you have a chance. Happy Summer. |
Tournament Chairman Well we had a great day for golf with our Partner Blind Draw tournament. We had 160 players participate in the event. All team scores were very competitive in the 4 flights. Every year this tournament allows someone who didn’t play well to cash (e.g. Omar Diaz net 75 gets 2nd, Chuck Demarco net 77 gets 3rd, Rich Gilmore net 79 gets 3rd, Nick Zamora net 80 gets T-2nd, and finally Kirk Jondle net 82 gets 2nd)!!!! Here’s some of the results in the tournament. In the A Flight we had Team Darryl Lee/Eric Miller shoot 60 with Omar Diaz/Terry Henson shooting 62. In B flight we had Ed Fernandes/Paul Frattone shoot 61 with 3 teams in a tie for 2nd with 62. In C flight we had Ken Louie/Frank Pecora shooting a 61 with 3 teams in a tie for 2nd with 62. In D flight we had Shawn Rippy/Chris Benes shoot net 60 with Kirk Jondle/Nigel Sherry in 2nd with a 61. Our next tournament is the July Red-White-Blue tournament to be held on July 16th. We will play 6 holes each from the Red, White, and Blue Tees. The course yardage will be very close to the White yardage so the software will automatically post each player’s scores using the White Tee Ratings/Slope. The team tournament we will be using 4 scores on the Red, 3 scores on the White, and 2 scores on the Blue holes. I do have some open spots so if you want to play, please let me know. At the General Meeting Night (7/12) I will NOT be taking tournament signups for the August 27th BBQ/Raffle tournament since this is a mail-in tournament. I’ve placed entry forms in the Pro Shop. The cost for this will be $70 (walk) or $85 (ride). I will take signups until 8/24. Reminder, this is a SHOTGUN start at 6:30am. Following play we will be in the TENT for the raffle.

Bob Livingstone Well, either most of you have gotten better or the course is in such good shape that you are just playing better, as many member's handicap have gone down in recent months...I was actually expecting some "R" or reduced handicaps from some of you guys who played so well (not me, BTW!) in the recent Club Championship, where we had some excellent scores. If you have any questions on handicaps or posting, please do not hesitate to contact me.

President's Corner The RED-WHITE-BLUE Tournament was really fun event. Those Red tees aren’t as easy as you thought, especially when you count 4 balls. As usual, my team finished last in its Flight. Congratulations to Mark Perry for his Hole-In-One on #3. He got in that morning, talk about Luck, so it’s time to fork over another $5 to Jerry Leininger to get back in as you never know when you will get one. In the LBO Pro Am El Dorado did Ok as teams from our club won the gross and got 2nd and 3rd net. Our “beat the heat” 6:30 shotgun BBQ & Raffle August 27th is coming up, so if you’re not in Call Tom. Next month is our Partner-Partner so find a Partner and come out and play as this is a fun format. JULY 2011 MEETING MINUTES The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included salad, rice, Santa Maria Tri-Tip, the ever popular Chicken Breast Sandee, beans and desert. Quite a feast at a very reasonable price. The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Tamer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents present (or at least in the vicinity) include Rich Dennison, Mike Montgomery, Richard Scoville, Steve Shure, Jerry Leininger, Tom Conlisk and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. There were approximately 70 members present. President Tramer requested a moment of silence in honor of past Board Member, Dave Chesbro, who passed away recently. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Committee reports were as follows: Rich Dennison (Special Events): Once again (like every month) a reminder – it’s your responsibility to report accomplishments (e.g., net par north of Willow, net par on Amen Corner, etc.) to the Officials at the Scorer’s Table at the end of the round (right, Corey?). July events will be net par or better on the 6 blue holes (#3,6,9,12,15 & 18) in the Red/White/Blue format, plus the three closest to the pin in each Flight on #17. Terry Fulford (GOM): June winners for Golfer of the Month were Ed Fernandez – gross 71, and Bill Johnson - net 66.25. There were 20 players in the pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament: 3rd Place (net 33) was Don Marmion; 2nd Place (net 32) was Steve Liebeck; and 1st Place was Marty Suart (net 31). Jerry Leininger (SCGA Rep): There are many good deals available through SCGA, including discounts at courses, deals on Dodger tickets, etc. Check the SCGA website. SCGA is starting a Sunday Team Play competition. See the article on the El Do Website for all the details. Congratulations to Jim Fuchs, who will represent El Do in the SCGA Championship. President Tramer is taking sign-ups for the Senior Championship of the Club, to represent El Do in the SCGA Senior Championship. You must be 55 or older. Also, the L.A. County Championship and L.A. County Senior Championship tournaments are coming up soon. See the SCGA Website for more details. El Do Course General Manager Rick and Head Greens keeper Ron took the floor and answered various questions regarding Green Speed, Flushing of Greens with fresh water, bunkers, etc. [Bob Livingstone reminded everyone of our “local rule” regarding moving rocks in bunkers]. Rick noted that we will soon be able to use “Prize Cards” from Tournament winnings for food and drink in the bar/restaurant. Mike Vaughn: The pre-meeting putting tournament had a 5 way tie for 2nd place (even par). Once again, Terry Henson was 1st. Nice income source for Terry. Mike needs everyone’s Flights Championship Fees ASAP. Dennis Tramer: Club Championship results are as follow: Championship Flight – Jim Fuchs (our first 4 time winner!); A Flight – Don Didier; B Flight – Mike Montgomery. Congratulations, guys. Nick Zamora (Entertainment): Our July trip was to Rio Hondo, where Corey Smith scored a “duck” (that’s not quite a birdie or an eagle). August 20th is Oak Quarry, with an 8 am Shotgun start. Cost is $85. The Las Vegas weekender is coming up – October 7-8-9. Sign up soon. Tom Retterath (VP & Tournament Chairman): This month’s Red/White/Blue Tournament will count 4 scores on the red holes, 3 scores on the white holes, and 2 scores on the blue holes. August 27th is our Barbeque/Raffle, with a 6:30 shotgun start. Cost is $70 to walk, $85 to ride. There was no old business. Under new business, Bob Livingstone discussed the Board’s concerns about getting more members involved on the Board, and discussed various options. We do plan to set up several committees (e.g., Handicap Committee, Tournament Committee, etc.) to get more members involved. If you have any other suggestions and/or are interested in helping run the club, talk to any Board Member. The “must be present to win” drawing (now at $80) name drawn was David Green, who wasn’t, so next month it goes to $85. The monthly $50 “draw ‘till we have a winner” drawing names included Nery, McElhenny, Followell, Sherry, Rademacher, Rodriguez, Cannon, Bundy, Mallinger, Herzberg, and McCullough (Jim), who weren’t present, and Mike Vaughn, who was. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm. Director's Report
Constructing a 9-hole, par-18 course with boundaries consumed more time than was expected, costing us participation time. In attempt to create a typical sized pool the entry was 5 per round or 8 for two. Five scores of even-par tied for 2nd place collecting 13 bones each while the 3-month defending Putting Contest champ, Terry Henson, was able to go 1-under to collect 60 bones. It would be nice to see some new players in August. The format will be of another variation and will start at 5:15 pm ending at 6:45. When you read this article our Match Play Flight Championships will be under way. With the run of entries on tournament day we are up to 73 players. Seven (7) more players and we will fill the 5th bracket. (23) more players will fill a 6th bracket, pushing the bar to where it has never been before. Entry is open through Sunday July 24. The Sign up sheet is still available in the hallway. Matches will be played at your Low Index or assigned index, whichever is lowest. With the SCGA updating our index on the 1st and the 15th of each month be certain the handicap you declare to your’ opponent before starting the match is correct. Familiarize yourself with Match Play rules in The Rules of Golf. Enjoy your matches and look forward to seeing you in the November Championships. Director's Report

Tournament Chairman Well Mother Nature gave us another beautiful day to play golf in our annual Red-White-Blue tournament. Team scores were very good which is an indication of good play and a golf course in good shape! Our thanks to the ElDo staff in striving to continue to improve our course conditions each and every month! Now on to the July tournament team results. In the A-Flight, we had Team Ostberg winning Gross with Team Vaughn winning 1st place Net with Team McCain followed closely behind in 2nd place. In the B-Flight, we had Team Ball win Gross with Team Bartley easily winning 1st place Net with Team Conlisk a few shots back to win 2nd place. Now to the Blind Draw. We had a lot of Blind Draw teams this month so they had their own flight. Winning easily the Blind Draw was Team Ahmadi with Team Kovaleff finishing 2nd. All results are posted on the website. Our next tournament is the August BBQ/Raffle tournament to be held on August 27th. This is a Mail-in tournament, therefore, get your entries in including payment ASAP! We will accept team entries until 8/24 or until the field is full, whichever comes first! Reminder, this is a 6:30AM SHOTGUN START! On tournament day, please come early to Check-in since we don’t have much time until we’re ready to start play! We will be collecting Team Entry Fees & Special Event entries at the General Meeting to help alleviate the potential “lines” on tournament day! You can definitely help out by paying these fees at the General Meeting. After golf we will be going to the Tent area for our BBQ lunch and Raffle. Our September tournament is another biggie for our club, the Partner/Partner tournament. This too is a mail-in tournament so please fill out the entry forms asap! I hope we have a good team turnout for this fun event. Day 1 is 9 holes of scramble followed by 9 holes of Alternate shot. Day 2 is 9 holes of Best Ball followed by 9 holes of Aggregate (Count them all). Entry fee is $120 for the 2-day event.

President's Corner Good thing we played the BBQ Raffle Tournament at 6:30 as it was hotter than Hades. We had a full field and everyone was finished by noon, so good job. The BBQ was good and Dudley had many nice prizes. We also had a lot of cash to give away, and Montgomery gave it away like Monopoly money. Matt the Pilot bought $200 worth of tickets and won about $500 in cash and merchandise. Tournament results out soon. In September, we have our 2 day Partner-Partner, so come on out as this is a fun format. Pick a partner that will help you as I did when I got Ziggy to play with me. First reason is now I can possibly hit an iron to the greens instead of a 3 wood, and I also told him we should play together as why ruin 2 teams. Everyone find a partner and come out and have some fun. Meeting Minutes
AUGUST 2011 MEETING MINUTES The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The Italian themed buffet included salad, garlic bread, lasagna, manicotti, Italian sausage, grilled veggies and dessert – a whole lot of good stuff. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past presidents in attendance included Jerry Leininger, Steve Shure, Tom Conlisk, Mike Montgomery and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. Approximately 60 members were present. President Tramer requested a moment of silence in honor of three members of our golf family who recently passed away: Don Hudzietz’s wife Ginger, Jorge Lopez’s wife Helen, and Fred Blanton. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Committee reports were as follow: Bob Livingston (Handicap Chair; SCGA Board Member): Fresh water irrigation of the greens started today. There may be some areas of relief on/around several greens. Both Mel Collins and Larry Grant qualified for the Match Play Championship at Sandpiper. The SCGA Senior Championship will be at Rec Park the second weekend of September. Jerry Leininger (Past President): There was no interest in fielding a Sunday Team for Team Play, so we won’t. Sign up for the Hole-In-One Fund. Mark Perry just did, and then promptly went out and got one – nice return on a $5 investment. Many thanks to Mark for the keg tonight. Anyone interested in running for Office or serving on a Committee, see Jerry or any other Board Member. Terry Fulford (GOM, etc): There were 15 cards turned in for GOM for July, and it took record performances to win honors this month. Winners were Mel Collins – gross 66 – and Steve Liebeck – net 64.5. Both scores were low for the year. The 9-Hole Tournament winner was (in a card-off) Shawn Rippy over Eric Miller, both with a net 33. Nick Zamora (Entertainment): Our August Away Trip is to Oak Quarry on August 20th – 8 am shotgun - $95. The Weekender at Aliente is coming up, so get your money in to Nick soon. November trip will be to Sierra Lakes. Mike Vaughn (Flites, Putting Tournament, etc): Another tight match again, with a 3-way tie for first among Mike Marmer, Sebastian Sturdevant and Todd Thiele. Mike reminded everyone about getting your matches in as soon as possible. Tom Retterath (V.P. & Tournament Chairman): August 27th is the BarBQ/Raffle Tournament, a 6:30 am shotgun. There are a few spots left. September 17 & 18 is the Partner/Partner, with a mail-in sign-up, $120 each for this 2 day event. Mike Montgomery (Communications): Mike discussed the problems with the drawing last month for the L.B. Open tickets, and announced that the Board suspended the member involved for the rest of the year. If he applies next year, the Board will consider his application just as they do for all new members. Mike announced a fund raising tournament for a very good cause on September 30th at Dos Lagos with an 8:30 am shotgun start. Contact Mike regarding this truly worthwhile event. Bob Livingstone made a motion to reduce minimum age requirement for the Senior Championship in the Club from 55 to 50, in order to encourage more participation in the event. The motion was seconded. After discussion, the motion was defeated on a show of hands vote. President Tramer noted that no additional input regarding elections was received, so we’ll stay with the current system. Nominations in September, presentation of the slate in October, and elections in November. There was no new business. Drawing results: “Must be there to win $80” – Pol Yson – who wasn’t. $50 “Draw ‘till you win” – Larry Bartley (the 15th name drawn). The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm. Director's Report
Trying a scoring variation was the attempt to get a better spread on the scores. It was a 9-hole count them all, adding 1 if you were short, then adding another if you took a 3-put or worse. There was slight grumblings among the troop but I think everyone enjoyed it. The score spread was achieved as the delta between hi and low was 9. We had a 4-way tie at 18 for 2nd place and a 4-player tie for 1st. Rolling smooth 17’s were Mike Marmer, Sebastian Sturdevant, Corey Smith and Todd Thiele. Actually Todd rolled a 17 twice. Well done, Curly. Flights are underway as a few results have been posted. A few contestants still need to pay their entry fee. If you could kindly get your $20 to me Tuesday night at the Putting Tournament/Meeting, or at worst place your cash or a check in a marked envelope in the locking Men’s Club drawer NLT Saturday, September 10 it will be appreciated. For Round 2 I have the 9:40, 9:48 and 9:56 times reserved on Saturday September 10 and 24. If you have any questions or would like to be placed in one of these slots please contact me via email or by phone. Director's Report

Tournament Chairman Well last week we had our annual BBQ/Raffle tournament. Luckily we had a 6:30 shotgun start which allowed us to play most of the morning in cooler weather! I’d like to compliment the ElDo staff on having the Carts ready for us, opening the restaurant earlier than normal, and for the fine BBQ lunch afterwards. I’d like to say thank you to our Board members for making the tournament and the Raffle run very smooth. Each flight was extremely close! In the A Flight, we had Team Conlisk taking 1st place Gross with Team Montgomery finishing 1st place net (typical finish for these guys!). In the B Flight, we had Team Rolph taking 1st place Gross with Team Tramer (how did this happen) finishing in 1st place Net. In the C flight we had Team Pichovich taking 1st place Gross with Team Scoville taking 1st place Net. All results are posted on the website. On an individual note, Stan Faris shot the best net score with a 67 followed by John Yeakel and Bill Albert with net 68’s – good shooting guys! Our next tournament is our last 2 day event of the year, the Partner/Partner tournament to be held on September 17th & 18th. You must sign up by 9/13. Remember, this is a Mail-In or place entry form (with entry fee) in the Pro Shop. Our last tournament, BBQ/Raffle, was also a Mail-In tournament but it surely didn’t seem that way with about 40% of the field paying the day of the tournament. Guys, this is just unacceptable on a go-forward basis. There’s no reason for you not to be able to either mail-in or place the entry form in the pro shop. Thank you in advance for making a better effort to do so for this upcoming Partner/Partner tournament!!!! Cost for this 2-day tournament is $120/person. Tournament scoring format is as follows: Day 1 is 9 holes of scramble followed by 9 holes of Alternate shot. Day 2 is 9 holes of Best Ball followed by 9 holes of Aggregate (Count them all).
Entertainment Chairman
Our away trip to Oak Quarry on August 20 went off without a hitch….except for the fact that maybe I forgot Tom Montgomery had asked to play and I didn’t have him on the list. Additionally, maybe it was the fact that I was not going to be able to make the tournament because I had plans to be out of town. Thank the Golf Gods for our fearless President, Dennis Tramer! He came to my rescue and filled in for me and put the tournament together. It was an 8:00 shotgun with 32 players. The format was a 123 Waltz. The Wild Man Group of Randy Kervin, Tom Gleim, Steve Friend and Bret Holloway who powered their way to victory by one stroke with a solid 19 under par. Steve Friend had the low gross of 72 and Tom Gleim had the low net of 69. Randy had a closest to the pin on #10 and Brett had 2 gross birdies on #8 and #9. They dominated the field -- good for them! All the other results are posted. Come see me for your points. It’s time for our final push for Aliante in Las Vegas. Although I have a lot of “maybe” responses, it is now time to confirm. As a reminder, the dates are October 7, 8, and 9, 2011. I will be sending out a flier soon. I hope you all can make time to go. This is our third time and we have always been treated like kings. This year there will be a Corvette car show at the casino, so “I have that going for me”. As always, thanks for coming. Commissioner's Report

Bob Livingstone As we enter the second month of the Flights Championship, please remember that you are to play to your lowest LI (Low Index of the previous 12 months) of the entire Championship. As some examples, if your LI on August 1 was 8.5 and you played your match on August 10th from the Blue Tees (Slope 126) you would play as a 9 handicap. You would not go above that LI throughout the Flights, regardless of if your LI increased in a subsequent month. However, if your LI on September 15 went down to 7.8 and you played your match from the white tees (Slope 123), you would play to an 8 handicap. You would play to that LI for the remainder of the Championship unless it went down yet again. For posting purposes during the Flights, you adjust your score based on your current handicap. In the first example above, if your LI made you a 9, but your current index translated to a course handicap of 10, you would be able to take a 7 without adjusting for handicap purposes. Finally, if a putt or hole is conceded, you should post under Equitable Stroke Control the score you are LIKELY to have made. If your opponent holes a stroke for birdie and you are left with a 6 foot putt for par, you should record a par, as you are likely to make that 6 footer 5-6 or more times out of ten...yes, you may miss it, but you are still more likely to make it than you are to miss it. However if you are left with a downhill 15-foot put for par, you should post a bogey, as you are probably going to only make that putt 3 or 4 times out of 10. The key is you shouldn't just take the highest possible score -- that is called sandbagging (or cheating if you prefer). As always, if you have any questions, please contact me or some of our other certified Handicap people, Jerry Leininger or Rich Dennison. Good Luck to all the competitors.

The Partner-Partner was again a fun time. This year was a little unusual though as there actually was some good scores shot, an aberration for this club.
Next year I will probably be looking for a new partner again as Ziggy on Saturday's crossover side had to hit 4 irons in from the rough on all but one of the par 4's, and then on Sunday I made a 10 on 15 and we missed cashing by 1 shot. Oh well. Orange Ball coming up October 15th come on out and have some fun. The General Election is coming up in November and we need everyone to show up at the meeting as this is very important. Anyone interested in running for a Board position please let a current Board member know and in October we will take nominations from the floor.

SEPT 2011 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner featured an old friend – the Mexican Feast (sorry – no Chicken Breast Sandee this month).
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Richard Dennison, Steve Shure, Richard Scoville, Mike Montgomery, Don Marmion, Tom Conlisk and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved.
Committee Reports were as follow:
Don Marmion (Golf Rep): No rate increase in October.
Bob Livingstone (Acting SCGA Rep): Bob awarded the SCGA Thursday Team Play trophy to Team Captain Melvina Collins. El Do had 6 players enter the Long Beach Senior Championship: George Manyak, John Suttie, John Wong, Steve Friend, Larry Bartly and 3rd Place finisher Mike Vaughn (with a net 67). Bob answered several specific Rules questions regarding fences and cart paths – “basically at El Do there is no relief from fences and roads; they are integral to the course. The inside of the fence (course side) is the OB marker”.
Ron Mahaffey (Head Greens keeper at El Do): Ron gave us an update on watering plans/procedures, particularly regarding flushing the greens with fresh water. He also discussed schedules for punching of the greens and fairways, and tree trimming.
Terry Fulford (GOM): There were only 5 cards turned in for August GOM. Winners were: Gross – Omar Diaz (68) and Net – Greg Lester (65.75). There were 21 players in the pre-meeting 9 Hole Tournament. Winners were Chris Benes – net 34 (welcome back Chris), Randy Wold – net 34.5, and Colin Boylan – net 35.5 Our last 9 Hole Tournament is next month.
Dennis Tramer announced the winners of our Senior Club Championship: B Flite – Randy Kervin; A Flite – Steve Liebeck; and Championship (Gross) Flite – Larry Grant. Via a playoff, Steve will represent us in the SCGA Senior Championship.
Nick Zamora (Entertainment): Nick announced the August Away Trip (Oak Creek) winners. He then discussed the Aliante October Weekender – hotel rates, golf rates, etc. There will be a 7:30 shotgun start Friday and Saturday. Nick needs commitments/deposits by September 21.
Mike Vaughn (Flites & Putting): Flites matches are going well, and are in the second round. Putting contest winners: John Suttie (4 Aces), Larry Bartley (2 Aces), and 4 guys tied with 1 Ace. Next month is the last putting contest.
Rich Dennison (Special Events): Partner/Partner special events include sweeps both days, and “North of Willow” plus “closest to the pins” on Par 3’s on Sunday. Entry fee total for 2 days is $80 per team.
Our Executive Board nominations for offices for 2012 are:
President: Tom Retterath Treasurer: Bob Livingstone Vice President: Terry Fulford Director: Mike Vaughn Secretary: Rob Kuehn Director: Nick Zamora
Anyone interested in running for an office or serving in any appointed positions, please contact anyone on the Board. The position of Entertainment Director will be open next year, as Nick is retiring from that job.
Tom Retterath (V.P./Tournament Chairman): We have 124 players for the Partner/Partner Tournament. Saturday is a 2 man scramble on the front 9, and a criss-cross on the back 9. Sunday is 2 man best ball on the front, and aggregate on the back. October is the Dreaded Orange Ball tournament.
There was no Old Business. Under New Business, Todd Thiele is setting up a betting pool for the Tournament. See Todd to win $1,000.
Drawing Winners: $85 “must be here” – Mark Miller. He wasn’t. $50 “draw ‘til you have a winner” – Rob Kuehn (Nick drew the numbers – honest).
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm.

The September putting contest was a count them all on a lengthy course, playing the course in reverse. Entry was 4 Bones for one round or 10 Bones for three. The layout allowed for a spread of 10 strokes between worst and first. Four players with scores of 1-under par tied for 3rd place. Collecting 11 Bones each were Marty Suart, Sebastian Sturdevant, Chris Benes and Paul Standish. Larry Bartley scored a 2-under total of 16 and collected 42 Bones. John Suttie rolled in (4) Aces and walked away from the field with a 14 for 1st place and 70 Bones. Well done, John. Be sure to get to the course early this meeting night as this month's tournament will be the last event this year as DLS ends in October. Tourney will start at 5:15 and end at 6:45.
The Flights Championship has progressed to the semi-final rounds. Players needing an extension to play their match due to conflicting schedules have done a good job in communicating their need to me. No requests have been denied. Please note that these matches MUST be played NLT October 31. Our Championship matches are scheduled for Saturday November 5. The 9:48 and 9:56 times are reserved for October 22. Contact me if you want slotted in either of those times. Providing you are still in the competition be sure to mark November 5 on your calendar. See you at the putting tournament.
Tom Retterath
VP & Tournament Chairman
Well we had another great weekend for golf for our last 2 day tournament of the year, the Partner/Partner. The course and especially the greens were in great shape! We had a great competition over the 2 day event. Each flight was tightly contested. The winners of the 2-day event were as follows: A flight Gross was Chris Martin-Steve Friend (Back-to-Back Champions!). A Flight net winners was the same dynamic duo as they were in the Member/Member – Steve Shure-Paul Wildy. B Flight Gross was Brent Huntington-Chris Price. B Flight Net was the tough duo of Dick Reagan-Larry Lipman. C Flight Gross was Greg O’Brien-Lloyd Lee. C Flight Net were the brothers Jeff and Henry DeGraaff.
On Saturday, October 15th, is one of our most fun or hated tournaments we have during the year -- “The Dreaded Orange Ball”. This will be a 3 best ball event, using the Orange ball + 2 others each hole. It looks like we’ll have 3 flights with payouts for 1 Gross and multiple nets within each flight. Each team will receive 3 orange balls and each team must turn in at least 1 orange ball with your signed scorecard upon completion of your round or your team will be Disqualified. I am going to try to do something that we’ve never done before which is to get everyone’s lineup prior to the tournament. If I’m able to do this, it will eliminate the errors made by the team captains when marking the “orange ball” holes, it will speed up the check-in time, and it will also help facilitate scoring since I’m pretty sure the computer can auto-score the tournament instead of us Board members manually calculating the scoring. So, I will be in contact with all of the teams to try to get me their team lineup prior to the tournament so I can build the scorecard accordingly!!! Hopefully we can do this since I do think the benefits are there for everyone! There are openings for singles so if you want to play, please call me!
On meeting night October 11th, I will be taking signups for the Saturday November 12th, Nassau Tournament. This is an individual tournament which pays both gross and net for the front 9, back 9, and overall. Reminder, you cannot win Gross & Net for any one category. I’m looking for a large turnout since you can win a lot of “points” in this tournament.
Reminder, our Christmas tournament is coming soon and if you haven’t played in 3 men’s club events yet this year, please make sure you clear your calendars and play in the upcoming events in order to qualify to play in the final tournament of the year!!!
Nick Zamora
Mr. Entertainment (Chairman)
Well boys, it’s that time again, time to “Battle at the Aliente Part III”. Yes, you thought this event would never happen. There was the fact that the internet boys try to sabotage the rooms. Then the golf course fired our favorite golf pro and organizer. But did that stop us? Nooooo! This tournament cannot be denied. We ended up with 28 teams which are only 6 teams less than last year. We even have 4 teams that have never played before. So I got that going for me. (which is nice...Ed.)
The games begin with a practice round on Friday, October 7, starting at 12:30. The big game begins Saturday, October 8 with a Shotgun start at 7:30. We will be playing a two man best ball from the Blue tees. Finally, Sunday October 9 is two man Aggregate also starting at 7:30. This is where the tournament is won. So be careful of what you do on Saturday night. You don’t want to be too fuzzy on the big day. Well, no more can be said. It is time to put everything on the line, let’s do this. I look forward to seeing you all and remember it’s all good!!
Finally, the last game of the year is to Sierra Lakes in Fontana. The date is November 5 on Saturday. We will be playing an 8:00 a.m. Shotgun. The cost will be $80 including range balls. The format will be 2332 Waltz. I will be at the Men’s Club Meeting, so come see me to sign up.
Thanks for coming.

Hopefully you all completed your renewals by the September 30 deadline so Secretary Kuehn can handle an orderly renewal process. If not, you still have until sometime in December to renew (at the New Member Rate rather than the discounted Renewal Rate) to keep your handicap in place and not be removed from our SCGA Club Roster. For the handful of you who just signed up as a new member for 2012, you can now begin creating what is called your handicap file, or the scores that are used to figure your Index. Once you have at least 5 scores posted, you will have an index, which is then used (with the green conversion chart listing ranges for either the Blue or White tees you plan to play on any given day) to determine you handicap for the day. If you don't yet know your SCGA number place any scorecards from rounds you play in the drawer beneath the posting computer in the golf shop and I will post them for you. Please make sure the date, tees played and COMPLETE NAME are on the card. If you know your SCGA number, you may post your score by touching the screen of the posting computer and following the directions on the screen. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me.

The Orange Ball was a fun time for me and I hope everyone else who participated had a good time even when that little Orange Ball made a “BIG” number.
Coming up November 12th the Individual Nassau. Anyone who hasn’t signed up give Tom a call as in this tournament there a lot of points to be won. It is not uncommon for someone to win 150 points in this tournament.
Our biggie of the year coming up in December, so sign up early as this one usually fills up quickly. Also, at the November meeting check into Derby’s as these are a lot of fun.
At this time I would like to give a special thanks to Mark Miller, our Webmaster, who has created a new website for the club. Mark has put considerable time into this project and it looks fantastic. When you get a chance, check it out as it will debut November 2nd and also give Mark a thanks when you see him for all the work he does to make everything a lot easier for our membership.

OCTOBER 2011 MEETING MINUTES
The October 2011 meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Golf Club was held on Tuesday, October 11th, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner included the Club favorite large firm Chicken Breast Sandy, beef brisket, grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes, rolls, salad and dessert.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dennis Tramer, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Approximately 70 members were present, including past Presidents Rich Dennison, Dick Scoville and (Life Member) Bob Livingstone. The previous month’s Minutes and Treasurer’s report were approved.
Committee Reports were as follow:
Golf Commissioner (Bob Livingstone filling in for Don Marmion): Gave an update on the status of aerating the greens.
Special Events (Rich Dennison): Reminded everyone to pick up their winnings from the box in a timely manner. Orange Ball Events will be Amen Corner (8-11), Orange Ball and Regular Skins, and Closest to the Pins on the Par 3’s. Rich then moved, and it was seconded, that since there were no candidates for office other than the Board nominated slate, that their election be approved by acclimation. The motion was unanimously approved.
Entertainment (Nick Zamora): Gave a summary of the results from the Aliante Trip, where a good time was had by all. Sierra Lakes is next on November 5th – Shotgun - $80. Saturday Team Play sign-ups are underway – we’ll have practice rounds in late November/early December.
Director Terry Fulford: There were only 2 cards turned in for GOM. There was no Gross winner. Net winner was Gerry Wright with a net 69.0. Nine hole winner tonight was Randy Wold with a 34.5. George Manyak was 2nd.
Director Mike Vaughn: The Flights competition is going well – we’re moving into the Semis. Tonight’s Putting Contest winner – counting Aces only – was Todd Theile, with Greg Englant and Les Douglas tied for 2nd.
Vice President/Tournament Chairman Tom Retterath: The Orange Ball Tournament is this Saturday 10/15. The September Tourney went well – especially for the Shure/Wildy team.
Mel Collins (Thursday Team Play) announced that the sign-up sheet for Thursday Team Play was posted in the hallway.
There was no Old or New Business. The “Must be Present to Win Drawing” (up to $90 now) name drawn was John Lynch – not present. The $50 winner was Jorge Lopez. Numbers were drawn by Tim (they never call my number) Braswell.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm.
Mike Vaughn

This year certainly has flown by. Quad Club left us in a position that we can only better ourselves next year (to be played at Lakewood), and the Flight’s matches are down to the championship matches. Nov. 5 is no longer Championship Saturday as one finalist will be in Savannah, GA and another is mid-recovery from a knee surgery. The times that were reserved for Saturday Nov. 5 have been released back to American Golf. Players will need to schedule their own matches to be completed by November 30. As trophies or plaques will need to be available for award presentation at our December monthly meeting any window of opportunity to play beyond November 30 is quite small.
October was the final Putting Contest of the year. The 9-hole course was constructed on the old putting green as the new green was closed. As this was an “Aces Only” all holes were laid out in a manner where every hole was makeable. Todd “Curly” Thiele walked away with 1st place sinking (5). Three others tied for second with (3).
Please note, next year’s Flights Championship will require your entry fee to be prepaid before you will be placed in a bracket. It amazes me how much of a challenge is to collect $20. As of this writing there is still one outstanding entry fee. If this reduces the competition to 3 or 4 flights instead of 5 that is what it will be.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
Terry Fulford
Director
The 9 Hole torunament is over until next year, but we still have Golfer of the Month. Last month we only had two net cards turned in, so you never know, you could be the Gross GOM with a 75. TURN IN YOUR GOM CARDS...YA NEVER KNOW.
Tom Retterath

It’s always amazing what a little orange color on a golf ball can do to one’s ability to hit a straight golf shot!! Quite a few stories again this year about how fun and frustrating this tournament is! Some teams must have hired a “mental coach” since they had no problems with the orange ball this year. In the A Flight Justin Vanderbroek’s team easily won the Gross Flight. Coming in first net via a cardoff was a hodgepodge team put together by Peter Cutler over Team “Lee”. In the B flight, a team that has played well all year, Team Fulford, took first in the Gross Flight. Winning first net was Team Olivier. In the C Flight, we had Team Billy J taking the Gross Flight. Could be a first win for a bunch of these guys was Team Al lReinking’s group who easily won first place net! Good playing by all of the winning teams.
On Saturday, November 12th, our monthly tournament is the “Pig Nassau”. This is an individual tournament which pays both gross and net for the front 9, back 9, and overall total. However, you cannot win Gross & Net within the same category. There are openings for singles so if you want to play, please call me! Entry fee is $55.
On meeting night November 8th, I will be taking signups for our last tournament of the year, the Christmas Tournament. THIS WILL NOT BE A MAIL-IN TOURNAMENT. We will have a shotgun start @7:30am. Format is 3-man teams playing 2 Best Ball and playing as sixsomes. Each player must have been a 2011 member and have played in at least 3 El Dorado tournaments throughout the year in order to be eligible to play. Cost will be $85 to Ride and $70 to Walk. REMINDER: YOU WILL BE CHARGED AN EXTRA $5 IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID THE CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE BY THE GENERAL MEETING NIGHT ON DECEMBER 13TH!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Our Weekender Trip to Vegas was a complete success. The dates were October 7, 8 and 9. Seems like ages ago. The course was in excellent shape and the weather could not have been better. All the results have been posted and I want to thank everyone for their participation and for all the help and support you guys give me.
Our final away trip of the year and for my career is to Sierra Lakes in Fontana. The date is November 5, on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The format is a 2332 Waltz and the cost will be $80 plus $10 for skins. I hope to see you all there.
Thanks for coming.

I am not sure when the last time was that the topic of adjustments for posting was discussed (probably during Team Play) but let's do a refresher on how to adjust in Match Play or when you don't complete one or more holes in a round.
If a hole is conceded in Match Play (say you are Rob Kuehn and you wind up on your new knee and just pipe it 255 yards down the middle of the 11th fairway, but your opponent -- who happens to be Rich Dennison, who for some reason is playing the 11th hole with an Orange Ball -- hits it out of bounds, and dejectedly just says "you win this one, Rob...I refuse to hit another ball off this tee!") you should post net par for that hole, even if you play out the hole and take a 7 from snap-hooking your second shot into the water.
Now, what happens if you are in a match or even in one of our 5-some, 3-best ball tournaments, and you have a putt that has been conceded or is for a score that will not help your team, so you pick up to make sure you don't get a penalty on #18 for slow play, then what should you post? The USGA says you should post what you are "likely" to have made. This DOES NOT mean you can look at the putt and say "well, I may have missed that, and I certainly wouldn't make it every time, so I will take a 2-putt"....WRONG! It means that you should take what you would likely make 6 times out of 10. If the conceded or unneeded putt is a 4-foot down-hiller to a front left flag on #1 at Eldo, then, yes, even a preeminent putter like Mike Marmer should probably take a 2-putt (although he could also post as if he had 1-putted). However, if the picked-up putt, is a straight 5 foot putt in the middle of the 14th green at Eldo, you should give yourself a 1-putt even if you have some affliction that caused you to go to a long putter 10 years before it became popular!
The four most important things in the USGA Handicap System are honesty, trying on every shot, posting every score, and the laws of probability, not possibility.
Good golfing!!

Let me start off by saying it has been a pleasure serving as President for the El Dorado Men’s Club for the past 2 years. We have a great membership who I believe makes ours one of the best clubs in Southern California. I am sure Tom will continue this great tradition, along with the 2012 Board of Directors to make your affiliation with the club a pleasurable experience.
On another note, anyone who hasn’t rejoined please do so by December 15th so we can get you on the roster. Cost is now $120.00. Hope to see you all at the Christmas Tournament, and everyone have a Happy Holidays.

NOVEMBER 2011 MEETING MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the El Dorado Park Men’s Club was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, in the Big White Tent. The pre-meeting dinner was an Asian Feast – Orange Chicken, Egg Rolls, Chow Mein, Rice, Salad and Rolls. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Dennis Tramer, who let the Pledge of Allegiance. Past Presidents in attendance included Rich Dennison, Jerry Leininger, Mike Montgomery, Dick Scoville, Tom Conlisk, and Life Member Bob Livingstone. Approximately 65 members were present.
The previous month’s minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Ron Mahaffey, Head Greenskeeper, gave an update on course conditions and future plans. Aerating of fairways will begin next week. Bunker improvements will be scheduled after the first of the year. Ron explained how to fill divots with sand-not too high, but just below the grass line.
Director reports were as follow:
Mike Montgomery (Saturday Team Play) – Tryouts will be 11/19 and 1st Saturday in December. We’re in an 8 Team League now.
Mel Collins (Thursday Team Play) – Our first practice is this Thursday.
Terry Fulford (GOM) – Only received 5 cards this month – 2 from 1 guy (Net & Gross). Net winner was Scott Paul – 70. Gross winner was Chris Benes – 72. Congratulations guys.
Bob Livingstone (Handicap) – Bob discussed posting of scores – refer to his article elsewhere in the newsletter. Congratulations to Jim Fuchs, Larry Grant and Mel Collins for their participation in the City 4 Ball Tournament. John Mallinger will play Saturday in our “Beat the Pro” competition.
Rich Dennison (Special Events) – Once again – turn in your winning performances at the Table – not a week later. This month we’ll have Beat the Pro, Skins and CTP.
Mike Vaughn (Flites) – We’ll announce all winners at the December meeting.
Tom Retterath (V.P./Tournament) – We have 125 players for this month’s tournament. They’ll be 3 Flites, with awards for Front 9, Back 9 and Overall. December is a 7:30 am Shotgun – 3 Man Teams - $85 to ride, $70 to walk. Remember – if you don’t pay ahead of time, it’s $5 extra at the Table.
President Tramer – Let’s have a hand for Mark Miller and the job he did on the Website upgrade – a major effort. Next year GOM will be based on LI. Think about getting into one of the Derbies after the December Tournament. They be 3 – 2 for $30 and 1 for $40.
There was no old or new business. Drawing winners: “Had to be There” for $95 – Scott Royle (who wasn’t). “Draw ‘til There’s a Winner” – Jerry Reid (1st name/number drawn). The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.

Ron Mahaffey
At the November General Meeting, course Superintendent Ron Mahaffey addressed the
membership on several topics including the way he would prefer for divots to be filled at
El Dorado.
His preference is for sand to be placed in divots to a level at, or just below, the level of the ground (not the turf) around the divot; filling sand above ground level negatively impacts the mower blades and leads to uneven areas when grass grows in along with the sand. Ron also recruited a few members to go around the course with him and identify some of the bunkers most in need of attention. Stay Tuned!

No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! As usual the weather prognosticators predicted rain but they were wrong again! The streak continues for our men’s club home tournaments without a rain-out!!! Reminder, we are a “rain-or-shine” men’s club. The only way we don’t play is if American Golf closes the course and it would take quite a bit of rain for that to occur. Which relates back to our men’s club policy, you must cancel or withdraw prior to 48 hours of the tournament or have a significant reason why you are cancelling in order to get a refund or you will be responsible for the tournament entry fee!!
Even with the cooler weather, we definitely had some strong scores. Here’s just a sampling of the scoring: Ron Dolbin shooting a gross 73. Doug Jones & Mike Marmer with gross 74’s. Darryl Lee running away from the “B” flight winning Gross Front 9, Gross Back 9, and Overall Gross (I.E. Pig Nassau)!!! In Flight “C” we had an exceptional Net score of 65 by Chris Plumridge. Jeff DeGraaff kept us his winning ways with a gross 41 on the Front 9 and also winning 2nd overall gross. John Condon finally got into the winner’s circle with a nice net 34 on the Back 9! Congrats to everyone that cashed!
On Saturday, December 17th, is our annual Christmas tournament. We “buy” the course for the entire day! The tournament is a 7:30 shotgun start. Format is 3-man teams, 2 Best Ball; playing as sixsomes. We will be using the 12/1 Low Index for all players. Cost is $85 ride; $70 walk, if you pay your entry fee by the 12/13 General meeting. If you pay after 12/13, you will be charged an additional $5. Since this is a shot-gun start, please arrive early in order to Check-in and sign up for Special Events (if you haven’t pre-paid that earlier). We are closing Check-in at 7:10AM!!! So, please be considerate and arrive early! Upon completion of your round each team will deposit their team’s scorecard in the box which will be located at the bar.
On meeting night December 13th, Terry Fulford and I will be taking sign ups for the Sunday, January 15th, 5-man Scramble tournament. Remember, due to the limited daylight, we have limited amount of tee times available, so make sure you attend the meeting to sign up!!!
